It’s never too late to learn a new skill or explore a hobby you always wanted to try. Personal Enrichment classes through NICC Business and Community Solutions provides that opportunity.

Lifelong learning helps us grow as people, and these classes – whether photography, kayaking, interior decorating or cooking – enrich our lives personally. NICC President Liang Chee Wee, Ph.D., believes the key to personal growth is developing new skills and interests.

Ten years to shape a tree, 100 years to shape a person’ is a Chinese saying. It is an admonishment that we should keep learning throughout our lives. The College’s role is to provide relevant, timely and diverse options for our community of learners.

Learning new things can be part of our leisure time. It contributes to creativity and sense of accomplishment, reduces stress and increases life satisfaction.

From 2020-2021, more than 820 community members of all ages accounted for a total of 1,298 personal enrichment class registrations through the College! One student, Kurt Rahe, said the Art of Welding class he took last fall offered the right balance of instruction and time for individual creativity.

“I liked the freedom of the Art of Welding class. You can make what you want and the instructor was good,” he said.

Consider taking a personal development class, or two, when you’re making your 2022 New Year’s resolutions! Learning something new gets the year off to a great start.
