BRIEF 02. FOLDED TYPEFACE BOARD 1/5 TYPEFACES

*FOLDING A TYPEFACE

The Concept. I decided to have a brief exploring folds in typefaces, and manipulating them. How the letterfroms could be altered in this way to create a display titling font. After an investigation into how best to fold I created four typefaces in two sets. The first has one fold in it, with the bottom section stationary, while the top is skewed to create a fold in the format. In one typeface it appears to move forward and in the second it is backwards. The typeface is called DIN Folded, as I used DIN as the basis of the project, and consists of four fonts in the type family.

BRIEF 02. FOLDED TYPEFACE BOARD 2/5 TYPEFACES

*FOLDING A TYPEFACE

The Concept. The seocnd set of typefaces consists of two different styles in type. Here instead of one fold in the typeface there is two. This creates a wave effect to the type as it appears to have two folds in the letterforms. Once again the bottom section of the type does not move. By having these four typefaces, they become interactive with eachother in the way you approach typesetting them. By using multiple folded typefaces you can create shapes and openings within your typography. This can add character and charm to your design.

BRIEF 02. FOLDED TYPEFACE BOARD 3/5 PUBLICATION

The Publication. I have made this publication so that I could showcase my typefaces, what they are and what they can do. The front and the back of the publication has been made from five different pages. Each leaf of a page has been designed to stay the same ratio but decrease in size with every addition. The type is split into two exactly where the fold is in the typeface, so by opening a page it reveals another typeface underneath. This is because the bottom section is the same no matter what so therefore all typefaces stem from there.

The publication works on both the back and front, as each page turn is mimicked on the other side.

BRIEF 02. FOLDED TYPEFACE BOARD 4/5 PUBLICATION

The Publication Upon opening the publication there is a double page spread which has been made into a poster, which shows all four typefaces as well as a brief explaination of each typeface and its specifications. The spread also includes the statement about opening a fold, which both demonstrates how the typefaces can be used together and also for the content of the statement relevant to the practice.

BRIEF 02. FOLDED TYPEFACE BOARD 5/5 POSTERS

The Posters Posters to promote the typefaces, to accompany the publication. In these posters it once again describes what each of the typefaces are, and the form of them A type specimen in poster format, the letterforms are there to be analysed and examined as any typeface is. It is a showcase of the type design.
