Key Points to Note:

The report updates the Board on the alternative service change proposals that will secure the development of the Orthopaedic Trauma Service in Pinderfields and seeks support for these changes. In addition, it provides further information on the progress of the SHA Service Change Assurance Process, the process for securing external clinical assurance that these proposals are appropriate and safe and the outcome of our further engagement with Overview and Scrutiny across Wakefield and Kirklees.

Budget Implications:

Proposed service changes funded within the tariffs agreed as part of the contract with MYHT. Potential additional costs relate to the provision of transport yet to be agreed.

Risk Assessment:

High – if changes are not agreed before the new hospitals open in January 2011.
