Release 12 Bulletin September 2010
Welcome to the second in the series of R12 bulletins issued jointly by McKesson In This Edition... and the NHS Central Team. Following on from the information in the July • Progress to date edition about some of the functionality, and look and feel changes to the • R12 Business Briefings Update service, this edition will cover the approach to education and business briefings. • R12 Education Update A significant amount of planning has gone into ensuring that the ESR user community • Trust Readiness is kept fully aware of the timing and approach of this Project and the changes that will be seen immediately after implementation, as well as the longer term functionality benefits that can be realised once the service is upgraded. The communications plan includes issuing these regular R12 bulletins until the end of the project, presentations to the National User Group and relevant Special Interest Groups, business briefings scheduled in September and the functionality training in November/December. Please let us know if you think that our communications approach is giving you the right level of information at the right time - share your views with us at R12@mckesson.co.uk
R12 PROJECT TIMELINE
The McKesson Test and Development teams are progressing to schedule with no major issues. September and October are key months in the plan with a high level of development and testing continuing, as well as Business Briefings being delivered and formal education being prepared. ‘Building good strong relationships always takes time, patience and a lot of effort for all parties. We are fortunate in our roles, representing McKesson and the NHS, to be members of Oracle Customer Advisory Boards. These ‘by invitation’ forums provide us with an excellent opportunity to deliver specific feedback from the ESR Special Interest Groups and to discuss, with other significant customers, Oracle’s planned future developments. A number of the developments delivered by Oracle Release 12 see us starting to realise the benefits of those relationships. The move to Oracle Release 12 will give us the clear platform from which to build the momentum of engagement with Oracle through the Advisory Boards and regular meetings with the Oracle Development and Product teams. This enables us to influence further improvements to the Oracle HCM product to support delivery of the NHS needs now, but more importantly for the future.’ Steve Thrussell, ESR Product Manager, McKesson - Lee Pacey, ESR Head of Development, NHS

R12 Business Briefings The NHS ESR Development Team will be providing a number of online briefings to put the new R12 changes into an ESR business context. These will highlight the background to some of the new functionality, how it might be utilised in an NHS setting, and detail some of the benefits that R12 will deliver for users. Details of the briefings were sent out to Users in ESR User Notice 1232, and have proved to be extremely popular – with the initial dates filling up quickly. This prompted the Team to add further sessions which are now also fully subscribed. Presentation slides from the briefings will be posted on kBase in early October.
R12 Education A series of online, interactive, Virtual Classroom sessions and supporting materials are being offered by the McKesson ESR Education Team from mid November until early December, to introduce the enhanced functionality changes available within R12. The sessions are primarily focused on the improvements to OLM and the Self Service modules. The OLM presentations will be offered on the enhanced functionality within the module to include Learner Groups and Enhanced Learning Paths. The Self Service sessions will also cover the enhanced functionality available within that module. Each of the sessions will last approximately 1 hour. A schedule of these events and how to register will be communicated by the Education Team in early October via User Notices and the McKesson Information Point (MIP).
Trust Readiness As reported in the July edition, the M-0100, ‘Organisation Site IT, Printer and Network Infrastructure Readiness’ document will be updated with the requirements for R12. The required change is an upgrade to version 1.6.0 update 17 of the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) on the PC of all ESR users. It is essential that all IT departments are made aware of this forthcoming change. For further information, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org
Further Information Further information about R12 will be made available on the McKesson Information Point (MIP), kBase and the ESR Solution website.
