KEY CLUB THE OFFICIAL NORTH GARLAND KEY CLUB NEWSLETTER DIVISION 2 OF THE TEXAS-OKLAHOMA DISTRICT
VOLUME 2 ISSUE 5
KIWANIS’ ANNUAL LABOR DAY PANCAKE FUNDRAISER Thanks to everyone who showed up to the Kiwanis Pancake fundraiser! There was a great turnout of North Garland students, and we ended up having extra volunteers. Most of the students passed out flyers and participated in the Labor Day Parade, which was a blast. Afterwards, the actual even was held at the First United Methodist Church, where a good number of Key Clubbers came to help serve the food and clean up. Despite having a few mishaps and miscommunication, North Garland’s Key Club was still represented very well, and thanks again for those who took time out of the holiday to help the Kiwanis!
FALL TRAINING CONFERENCE On September 22nd, there will be a Fall Training Conference for ALL Key Club members to attend! If you want to be an officer next year, it’s mandatory that you go, since this conference covers much of what is expected of officers. There will be a pizza party that requires you to bring $3, and you get to meet plenty of awesome Key Clubbers such as yourself, so be there or be square!
FALL RALLY Another huge Key Club gathering is Fall Rally, where any Key Clubs that are a part of the Texas-Oklahoma district is welcome to participate. The even takes place at the famous Six Flags Over Texas from 11 AM to 11 PM. If you can drive, extra hours will be awards to you for carpooling. The convention/rally gives you a great chance to earn mega points for our club, meet new people, and have an amazing time! The more people that can attend, the better!
FIRST KEY CLUB MEETING Thanks to EVERYONE who came out to the first Key Club meeting on Tuesday, September 4th! The turnout was much bigger than we expected. We had originally expected only about 40 people to come, and we had OVER 70 people show up! The meeting was a little long because of everything we needed to update the new members about, and the cafeteria was actually a bit crowded with everyone rushing to sign in and sign up for new events. That makes us officers REALLY HAPPY, so keep up the enthusiasm! We hope Key Club doesn’t fade out or diminish over time, so as long as you guys are having fun and working hard, so will we! :)
UPDATES ELECTIONS Interested in becoming an officer? Well you should! Being a Key Club officer requires you to commit plenty of time, hard work, and effort. Simply running and winning the position, only to slack off later on, will not be tolerated. If you think you love Key Club enough and want to be a part of North Garland’s future Key Club, give it a shot! There is no need to turn in an application, just have a speech prepared by October 9th! There will also be interview questions to be asked, so make sure you let everyone know that you are the best candidate for the position. But, even if no one is running against you, the current officers still have a say if you get the position or not, so make sure you really want it!
KIWANIS’ DISASTER RELIEF TEAM The Texas Oklahoma District Disaster Team is rolling out its newly formed Disaster Relief Team to help fill backpacks for the Hurricane victims in our sister Louisiana, Mississippi, and West Tennessee District. We are asking that Kiwanis clubs consider making donations to this cause. The $100 will buy 6 backpacks and all the items to fill them with. A list of needed items will be posted on the website Monday for those local clubs who wish to donate additional items. More information soon!
