CONNECTING GENEROSITY WITH IMPACT
2021 ANNUAL REPORT
Making an Impact
TOGETHER There have undoubtably been drastic changes over the last few years. But one thing that has not changed is the generosity and engagement of the people invested in our community. While the world around us has faced challenges, the compassion of those invested in this area has remained constant. I am proud to have been the Board Chair for the North Georgia Community Foundation (NGCF) during such a critical time. I have had a prime view of seeing how the Foundation has continued to step up and supported our community, as well as reached significant milestones that deserve to be celebrated. In just the last six years, we have more than doubled the amount of assets under management, and in that same time, have tripled the amount of grants awarded to nonprofits. Today, we manage more than 480 funds mobilized to serve the community through effective grant-making. The benefit to the community through these funds is priceless, and the pandemic only served to spotlight the value of the much-needed assistance that those grants provide. NGCF’s COVID-19 grants started in 2020 and continued into 2021, amounting to nearly $1.3 MILLION in assistance. In 2021 alone, we continued with record-breaking grantmaking to create greater impact. While continuing to focus on the positive impact of our grantmaking, we also knew we needed to remain committed to building up leaders to bolster the future of these difference-making organizations. Through our G.R.O.W. Nonprofit Educational Programs, individuals were empowered to strengthen their skills in leadership to take back to the organizations and communities they serve. We also continued to actively invest in our own organization by guiding our actions and decisions to reflect the goals of our strategic plan. This report highlights the impact that the Community Foundation, our fundholders and nonprofit partners have had on our region this past year as we continued to navigate a changing world. There are many impactful opportunities ahead, and we look forward to all we can accomplish together.

Creating Change Across North Georgia THROUGH IMPACTFUL GRANTMAKING In 2021, we distributed a broad range of grants to nonprofits and programs that were actively addressing the needs facing our community.
CONTINUED SUPPORT THROUGH COVID-19 IMPACT GRANTS As the fight against COVID-19 persisted into 2021, we continued to provide grants from our NGCF COVID-19 RELIEF FUND. From March 2020 - end of 2021, NGCF awarded 123 nonprofit organizations across North Georgia with nearly $1.3 million in COVID-19 relief grants.
About five months after the pandemic began, federal funding was authorized to provide relief assistance to communities. The City of Gainesville and NGCF partnered together to help those adversely impacted by the pandemic, whether due to illness or loss of employment/wages. Using Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds authorized by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act, the City and NGCF worked to distribute $175,000 of relief funding to organizations providing food and utility assistance for City residents.
OPENING DOORS TO OPPORTUNITY Receiving an Opportunity Grant allowed the Boys & Girls Clubs of Lanier (BGCL) to expand their programming into Habersham County. Because of the organization’s strong reputation for providing safe and nurturing after-school and summer programs in Hall and Forsyth counties, Habersham County representatives approached BGCL about expanding its programs into their community. With a
$75,000 NGCF Opportunity Grant, BGCL was able to open eight new sites throughout Habersham County.
RECORD-BREAKING IMPACT: COMMUNITY GRANTS Our 2021 community grant cycle awarded more than $485,000 to 39 nonprofit organizations across North Georgia. This breakthrough amount is due in part to grants from the Lillie Mae Green Fund as
well as the generosity of our NGCF fundholders who chose to support projects from the grant cycle by allocating dollars from their personal charitable funds.
