Title
DEVELOPMENT OF COMPATIBLE RESTORATION MORTARS
Abstract
Development of some premixed mortars based on natural hydraulic limes (NHL) or lime and metakaolin suitable in different archaeological and architectonic conservation contexts.
Det aile d descriptio n
Mortars based on natural hydraulic limes (NHL) were developed in order to be used in conservation interventions in different archaeological and architectonic contexts. Restoration mortars are based on natural inorganic binders, with acceptable degree of reversibility, high compatibility with the original materials, negligible concentrations of soluble salts, and good durability in humid environment.
Innovative aspects / Advantages
Easy and cheap to use for each conservation context. Application in the bio-building field.
Main advantages
The production of lime and natural hydraulic lime has a less environmental impact in comparison with the concrete one. The concentrations of soluble salts in the mortar based on lime or natural hydraulic lime (NHL) are negligible. Theses mortars are compatible with the ancient materials and have high durability.
Current state of development
Available for demonstration field tested. Several applications of mortars based on natural hydraulic lime in different archaeological conservation contexts were carried out.
