LED Lighting for Retail Environments

LED Lighting for Retail Environments Light in the retail environment is essential to the presentation of the products being sold. However, with increasing pressure for buildings to be environmentally friendly and energy efficient, the choice of lighting products has to be carefully considered. As maintenance costs are constantly scrutinised, high efficiency, long life, energy saving LED lighting provides the perfect solution to retail applications.

Why LED? Reduced Carbon Emissions LED converts up to 80% of energy into light. This both reduces energy costs and dramatically reduces carbon emission.

Cost Effective The true cost of traditional light sources is not only in its energy consumption. There is also maintenance over its lifetime, replacement lamps and disposal costs. With LED, these costs don’t exist. LED is a Fit-&-Forget solution.

Instant Light & No Flicker LEDs produce 100% light instantly, with none of the warm up time required by fluorescent. Plus they are free of visible flicker - ideal to help prevent discomfort associated with traditional lighting.

Safe Lighting LEDs emit minimal Ultra Violet light (UV). UV light attracts insects and can be harmful to skin, clothing and artwork. Heat emissions are greatly reduced with LED, which means they are cool to touch and perfect for heat sensitive applications.

Long Life The life of LED is between 4 and 40 times greater than traditional products. What’s more, they produce consistent light output over their entire life.

Durability LEDs do not contain a filament that can be damaged by shock and vibration – making LED one of the most stable light sources available.

Retail Offices & Meeting Rooms

Primary office space is often designed as open plan to provide flexibility in terms of cellular desks and relocatable walls. Meeting rooms and individual offices are often built towards the outer edge of the total floor space. With the same modular concept in mind, lighting levels will vary depending on the tasks being executed and the natural day light available.

LuxPanel • Fast return on investment, low energy consumption and CO2 emissions

• 50,000 hour life with consistent light output for the duration

• Possible energy savings of 80% compared to fluorescent

• Environmentally friendly - contains no mercury or other toxins. Fully recyclable

50,000 HOURS

• Maintenance free - no lamp replacement required

OFFICE LIGHTING COMPLIANT

Exceeds the requirements of the Society of Light and Lighting’s Lighting Guide 7 (SLL LG7) and EN12464-1; • 65˚ cut-off angle to limit glare on screens • UGR of 19 or lower to eliminate discomfort glare to room occupants In addition to the above, LuxPanel’s can also offer exceptional efficacy of over 140 Luminaire lumens per circuit Watt (Llm/W) whilst providing illuminance and uniformity in accordance with the requirements of LG7 and EN12464-1. Many other LED panels can not meet all these requirements.

The Complete Retail Solution!

Working in parallel with Maplin electronics to realise its ‘Horizon’ refurbishment project, Luceco has played a key role with the design and supply of energy saving luminaires to the group.

Refurbishing 216 stores nationwide, Maplin provided a strict brief for Luceco Lighting Designers to achieve high lighting levels across not only the shop floor, but also to back of house areas including warehousing, offices, staff rest rooms and WC’s. With each store being unique, a bespoke lighting solution was required for each store to accommodate mezzanine floors, single floors and high ceiling spaces. The Horizon project includes the need for dramatic cost reduction across the whole estate, therefore Luceco specified its most recent innovation – the High Efficiency LuxPanel.

• 2000+ luminaires installed, including Backlit LuxPanel, Titan Highbay, Atlas Bulkhead, Climate linear, Track spot lighting, Guardian floodlights and Emergency • Over £156,000 in energy savings to date • Return on Investment of just 1.5 years • 780 tonnes of CO2 saved per year

At just 50 watts per 1200x600mm panel, LuxPanel was a perfect solution for the shop floor to cut energy consumption and reduce CO2 - to date over 780 tonnes of CO2 saved per year, with over £156,000 in energy savings. Additionally specified are Titan Highbay and Climate linear (warehousing areas), Atlas Bulkhead (WC’s and staff rest rooms), Track spot lighting (window displays), Guardian floodlights (loading bays) and Emergency Bulkheads, Exit Boxes and Exit Blades throughout.

Window Displays & Promotional Features

Clever use of lighting can accentuate certain areas of a retail space and draw an audience to a particular product. LED Track mounted lighting is highly efficient, particularly in window displays with high operating hours and allows massive manoeuvrability to ensure merchandise is well lit.

Walkway & External Spaces

Due to their nature, these areas are often constantly lit even when not in use. Clever use of lighting controls can further reduce energy consumption, using integral microwave sensors programmed to reduce the lux level and wattage of the luminaire. This allows energy to be saved without reducing the communal area to darkness, providing a safe lit environment for users.

Lighting Controls

Today’s designers need to consider energy efficient luminaires combined with lighting controls to ensure areas are only lit when in use. In retail applications there are different lighting requirements ranging from when outlets are open for business to when a shop floor is being cleaned or restocked. Lighting controls can manage these requirements and be flexible to accommodate the natural light when available.

Stand Alone Lighting Controls • Automatic control of lighting to help reduce energy consumption by automatically turning lighting on and off • IP Rated versions - protected against water and dust • High ceiling mounted PIR - suitable for high ceilings, such as sports and assembly halls
