Period Four Promotion (4th April-1st May 2011) staff incentive! Back by popular demand (and bigger and better than before!!) Following on from the huge success of last year’s promotion we are delighted to be able to reward a member of staff for every Annual or 6 month (!!) pre-paid Wellness membership sold in Period 4. The current prices apply for annual sales but this year the reward has increased by 50% from £10 to £15 for each and every sale. In addition, there will be a £10 reward for every 6 month membership sold. These 6 month memberships are being made available for this period ONLY! They will be priced at the following rates:

News from your Support Teams IMPORTANT STAFF NOTICE: CAR INSURANCE WHEN DRIVING FOR WORK PURPOSES Please take the time to read this information about driving to and from other centres, or other locations, for work, training or when running errands. It has come to our attention that some employees may be uninsured when driving – we strongly urge all employees to check with their insurers whether they are insured to drive while “at work”.
Please be very clear with your insurer about the types of journey you choose or are required, or may be required, to undertake. It is inadvisable to simply ask to have “business miles” added to your policy as you may incur a substantial additional premium. There is an information sheet on Sharepoint, and that has been circulated to GMs and MODs which you should locate and read through to make sure you are not exposing yourself to any risk through being under- or un-insured. If you drive while “at work” you will need to provide a copy of: 1. 2. 3.
Your current driving licence Your insurance cover (you need to send this in to us each time you renew your insurance) A signed statement (on a Nexus form) confirming you understand for which journeys you are insured to drive while “at work” and that you will not make and have not made any journeys for which you are not appropriately insured
From 1st March 2011, these documents must be produced before any business mileage claims will be paid.
INVESTORS IN PEOPLE Next week, our new IIP assessor Matthew Filbee, will be visiting several centres and meeting with up to 60 employees. If you see him around the building, please say hello, or if you are meeting with him, please be open and honest with him. We will get the feedback from Matthew as to how we have done, whether we are meeting the standards required to keep our IIP recognition on Thursday afternoon. We will let you know the result as soon as we can. There will be a full report with recommended areas to focus on which we will also share through staff forum and other media.
STAFF FORUM Just to remind everyone, there are 3 vacancies currently on the Nexus Staff Forum Partnership. One representing front line staff in the West Ox partnership, and two non-managers from the Corporate/Head Office group. Digital Update from Sadeek From March 1st – 31st we received 38,490 hits on the Nexus website, with 51% new visitors and 49% old and returning visitors. The highest viewed centre was Windrush Leisure Centre.
News from West Ox Witney GO Active Kettle Bell training is coming to Windrush LC very soon. It will be running as a Go Active class on a Wednesday lunchtime in 2 half hour sessions - more details to follow, watch this space! Blenheim 7k and Junior 1 Mile Fun Run Sunday 8th May A scenic course using footpaths and trails in the beautiful grounds of Blenheim Palace, Woodstock, Oxfordshire. Windrush Leisure Centre Sales Target Smashed! Well done to Chantal and the Windrush team for hitting their sales target 4 months in a row!! Keep up the good work! Nikki does the ‘Moonwalk’! On Saturday 14th May Café Supervisor Nikki Gibson is taking part in the ‘Walk The Walk’ London Moonwalk Marathon to raise money for Breast Cancer. Nikki and her sister will be amongst 1000’s of women (and a few men) power walking through the night dressed in a homemade decorated bra!!! She hopes to complete it in around 6 Hours, breaking their previous records of London in 8 hours and Edinburgh in 6 hours 40 mins. Nikki would be very grateful if you can sponsor her - her sponsorship form is pinned up on the catering staff notice board. “Big Thanks” from Nikki - she will keep us posted on much she raised!
Carterton Leisure Centre Carterton 10k Well done to the Nexus team for competing in the Carterton 10k last Sunday Dave Swann, Pam Radley, Laura Josland and Felicity Gidlow. Congratulations especially to Dave for coming 5th overall (out of 190 finishers)! Hopefully the Nexus team will be a bit bigger for next years race! Hello and thank you from Maya! Maya Clarke, Carterton LC’s new Customer Advisor is settling in well and already doing a great job! Maya says: “I’m loving it at Nexus Carterton Leisure Centre so far. Everyone has made me feel very welcome. I would like to say a special thank you to Pam Radley, Claire Davie and Chantal Clavaud from the Windrush Leisure Centre who have been great and most helpful in settling me in my new role.”
Nexus Tooth Fairies! Well done the ‘Nexus Tooth Fairies’ (Laura Josland, Jayne James and Claire Davie (plus Dental Nurse Natalie!)) for competing in the Blenheim Palace OX5 5 mile fun run! The team are on the look out for their next challenge should anyone like to join them!
News from South Ox Henley Leisure Centre Welcome Richard! Henley recently welcomed Richard Taylor as their new GM! Richard has worked for Nexus before as a Fitness Manager and GM and, after a short stint away, has returned to Nexus to join the Henley team. Welcome back! Well Done Tom & Jeremy! Congratulations to Tom Durrant and Jeremy Willis for completing the Reading Half Marathon! It was Tom’s first half marathon and he managed to complete it in 2:00:23. Jeremy managed to beat last year’s time by 7mins, recording a time of 2:08:04. Well done to both!
Thame Leisure Centre Congrats Jamie! Congratulations to Jamie Surman for getting the full time Fitness Instructor job! Jamie starts his new role on Monday. Thame to Edinburgh! Well done to the staff and customers at Thame LC for raising nearly £100 by cycling 599.48km (just 3.48km over their target), the distance from Thame to Edinburgh! They also held a fund raising spin class and had a bucket on reception where members gave generously!
Didcot Leisure Centre Happy Birthday! Happy Birthday to Emma Moore who was 21 on the 17th March, she has finally got over the hangover! Happy 18th Birthday also to Robyn Pinder for 24th March. Did Deep! Sophie is yet to receive sponsors from Nexus for doing the London Marathon, c’mon guys dig deep!!
South Ox Health Promotion Penny Reynolds, the Health Programme Coordinator in SOX, would like to say a big ‘thank you’ to Amy Laker and Rupert Ward at Didcot Wave for their support and help with preparing for Benson Health Fair which took place on Saturday 12th March. They both gave up their day off to support Active for Health and advertise Nexus across South Oxfordshire. Alongside them Robbie Durrant from Henley Leisure Centre came along to offer support and we managed to gain some positive presence and some leads for 3 different leisure centres.
News from Chiltern & South Bucks Chalfont Leisure Centre Congratulations to Maureen Pedri, who was nominated as Chalfontâ€™s staff member of the month this month. She was nominated for going above and beyond in her role as a swimming teacher. Well Done Maureen! Chalfont has a brand new reception desk, which is now compliant with DDA regulations. The feedback from staff and customers has been complimentary and itâ€™s nice to freshen up the reception area. Funding was secured for the new desk and we all look forward to welcoming customers to it in the future!
Chesham Leisure Centre Chesham Leisure Centre celebrated the official launch of their new sensory equipment on Tuesday 22nd March. Sensory equipment allows children and adults with special needs to explore and develop their senses and skills. The new sensory equipment was funded by Bucks Aiming Higher and includes a sensory proctor with bubble tube, fibre optic obit tails and music which allows children to explore light, sound and movement. Heritage House, a community special school for children (ages 2 to 19 years) with a range of learning difficulties, came along to the centre and had a fantastic time, playing in the pool pit, jumping on the trampoline and swinging on the rings. The children who have a varied range of disabilities managed to get full use and enjoyment out of all the equipment. The leisure centre will run drop in sessions for children of all abilities on Wednesdays at 10.30am-12.00pm & 1.00-2.30pm in the gym pit, with full use of the sensory equipment.
Chiltern Pools The gym, reception and changing rooms at Chiltern Pools officially reopened on the 18th March after undergoing a major refurbishment. The gym has had brand new Techno Gym equipment installed which incorporates 17 inch personal TV screens and also the hugely popular and much sought after Power Plate. Make sure you visit soon for look!
