Enyimba take title chase to El-Kanemi E nyimba of Aba will on Sunday take on El-Kanemi Warriors as they continue their quest to win the 2015 Nigeria Professional Football League title. The People’s Elephant have been the most consistent team in the league this season and currently top the table with 55 points from 29 matches, four points ahead of Warri Wolves in second position. Warri Wolves and Wikki Tourists are currently the major challengers to Enyimba, while Sunshine Stars who, at some

point, were considered a major title contender have dropped down the ladder to fourth position after failing to win a game in their last four matches, both home and away. Enyimba will be seeking their brother, Abia Warriors’ favour to stop Warri Wolves charge as the two sides file out on Sunday in Umuahia. It will be an uphill task for bottom of the table side, Bayelsa United, as they confront title contenders, Wikki Tourists, in Bauchi.

Wikki have been grinding out the results in recent games and they are currently third on the table, seven points behind Enyimba. Sunshine on the other hand will hope to return to winning ways and get their title chase back on track after recording one point from a possible 12 in their last four games. They will however have their work cut out as they tackle Kwara United who are currently battling to escape relegation.

Lagos FA stopped us from pulling out of the league – MFM chairman ism from area boys, it has been very peaceful. We have one of the best pitches, there are camera stands, the toilets are top notch and the environment serene.

Chairman of MFM Football Club, Godwin Enakhena, in this interview with CHARLES OGUNDIYA says the team is ready to compete with the best in the Nigeria Professional Football League after they gained promotion from Nigeria National League. Excerpts… Excitement on gaining promotion Obviously I was very excited and want to give glory to God who used Dr. Daniel Olukoya of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries to bring this to pass. It wasn’t an easy journey but we ascended well and we are grateful. New Terrain I don’t agree when people keep saying we are going into a new terrain. We have put up a big plan which has helped us to get to this level. MFM FC are the only team in Nigeria that I know that is not owing their players, we have the facilities in terms of accommodation for the players, we feed our players without collecting a kobo from them, we also have one of the best hospitals, Fidelity Hospital in Yaba, Lagos, where we take care of our players. So everything is ready for us to be successful in the premier league. In terms of travelling for away games, we have regional overseers who took care of the players in terms of feeding and accommodation, so we don’t have problems. If we talk about the players and technical crew, we have those who have played in the Premier League before, some of them have played for the national team in Nigeria, and we have an experienced coach in Nduka Ugbade, so why should we fret? MFM FC have played Enyimba in the past and they couldn’t beat us. We played

Olukoya’s impact I would describe it in one word, awesome. God has used him to reposition youths in Nigeria. When it started in 2007 he called and said God had given him a position to reposition the youths of this generation for Jesus Christ through sports. It is called the 70-point agenda and sport was one of them.

Warri Wolves they couldn’t beat us, same goes for El-Kanemi Warriors, and these are the teams we will be playing against in the premier league, so I don’t see any reason we should be afraid. Secret of success Nothing else but God who used Dr. Olukoya to make it happen, and special thanks to the players, the coaching crew, the fans in Agege, Lagos, who stood behind us through thick and thin. We also want to thank the Lagos Football Association specifically the chairman Seyi Akinwummi, his deputy, Tade Azeez. At a point we were going to pull out of the league; I remember one game that we played against Atiba United, we were leading 1-0 and we had to play that game for extra 19 minutes. I wrote a letter to the Nigeria National League, telling them of my intention to pull the team out of the league because it was annoying. But Azeez pleaded with me not to pull out. Officiating Officiating problem is everywhere, it is not just about the NNL. But truth be told, the LMC is doing its best likewise the NLL, but the best solution to checkmating referees is having the games on television. More games should be shown live every matchday. When a referee knows that the world is watching

Enakhena

he will not mess up. When we went to Atiba we recorded the game but the thugs in Atiba collected the tape from us and when they later returned the tape to us it was empty. No evidence again, we had to appeal to the rights owner, Super Sports. They are doing it in South Africa they can do it here in Nigeria. Home ground We pray that they will allow us maintain Agege Stadium, we really love to play in Agege which is about 6 000 capacity. If Akure township stadium which is also 6 000 capacity was allowed to host premier league games, why not Agege Stadium where there is no evidence of violence, no record of hooligan-

Sponsorship Let me say that our doors are open to everybody for sponsorship apart from alcohol and betting companies. Any other sponsorship that glorifies God, we will be involved. Our doors are open to Nigerian Breweries to have one of their products that is Godfriendly come in as sponsors. When you bring Maltina we will embrace them. Advice to others Seriously you cannot correct an abnormally from outside, it has to be from the inside, and I say that more churches and religious organisations should join and come together to produce a team. There must be a check somewhere, for example if a team belongs to RCCG and the boys are misbehaving on the pitch, the Enoch Adeboye (general overseer) factor is there to check the players. But if someone from Enyimba is misbehaving you do not know who to report to, so these things are so easy to deal with. What we just need is support from the system that has been there and with this the sky will just be the beginning.
