Local health care workers get the experience of a lifetime. By JOHN C. COTEY

ealth care workers came from every NFL city — from Seattle to Foxboro and from New Orleans to Phoenix and all points in between — to witness history, as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers beat the Kansas City Chiefs 31-9 to become the first NFL team to ever play, and win, a Super Bowl in its own city. For Dr. Joy Allee, a former Wesley Chapel resident now living in New Tampa, it was a pretty great start to her new hobby of being a football fan. Dr. Allee, an anesthesiologist and former Estancia at Wiregrass Ranch resident who works at Brandon Regional Hospital, found out in late January that she was one of 7,500 twice-vaccinated health care workers to get invited to Super Bowl LV as guests of the NFL, as

thanks for their service during the Covid-19 pandemic. A majority of those health care heroes were from hospitals and health care systems in Tampa and Central Florida, although each of the NFL’s 32 teams also selected health care workers from their respective communities to attend. Allee says she knew nothing about football when she entered the drawing for tickets, and that the only game she had ever watched was the Super Bowl each year. But even then, she was watching for the commercials and halftime show. She did know this, however — the Super Bowl is pretty much the biggest game on earth. To be offered the chance to go because of her hard, and often devastating, work this year helping patients during a pandemic that has killed
