Designex Melbourne It is always important for any company to keep in touch with the

latest developments, products and trends in their sector and interior design is obviously no different! The recent DesignEX exhibition in Melbourne was simply delightful and we’ve returned buzzing with more innovative, inspirational and exciting new ideas which we cant wait to show our clients and prospects. The range of interior design options available continues to grow and grow, whatever specifications you desire, we are confident we can help.

surfaces that wow For example, the hundreds of varying styles and colours of surface materials consistently being released by different suppliers continues to amaze. Laminex always at the forefront showcased their new designs within their ‘fusion wall mural’ range; for example large scale

appliances with personality Plus, The Lincoln group’s new impressive surface material – a concrete imitation look product but amazingly only a sixth of the weight which can be used on walls and even ceilings. Impressive. Appliances are going through an interesting evolution phase too – check out the fabulous sleek, funky looking range hoods by Ilve and Wilsonart Global Design. Our Favourite exhibitor stand had to be the Italian brand Smeg. They launched their keenly anticipated new appliance range designed by Australian designer Marc Newson – simply fabulous! Hobs and ovens in glass, stainless steel and eight coloured enamel finishes were showcased concentrating on shape, curves and profiles, superbly uninterrupted by knobs or handles. Truly original products by the italian family owned company that never fails to impress.

designer edge One of our favourite products was the ‘orchid’ light range by Marc Pascal an Australian Melbourne based lighting designer. Such delicate looking, affordable pieces with great visual impact. Sure to be the talking point of an interior in a future project of ours soon!

INSPIRATION Attending the seminar given by Jeffery Copolov from Bates Smart Architects, who designed the Crown Metropol Hotel, was my real highlight from the show. Having had the privilege of staying there when first opened in 2010, I was fascinated listening to why the building took on the form it did, why the colour of carpets were chosen…Why the swimming pool is on the 27th floor and how solutions were found to design challenges. I feel everyone should stay here at least once whilst in Melbourne. You too will feel ‘sexy and tres chic’ as the seminar was quite justifiably named. Overall a thoroughly enjoyed design show that left us feeling even more informed and inspired; ultimately itching to get specifying the latest products and new found suppliers for our current and future clients. Upon leaving the exhibition centre we treated our well deserved feet to a wonderful foot massage – prepping them for the next design show in May in my home town of London.

Latest project news Glad to say that building work is now underway on a current large renovation project in Wembley. A small, dark house typical to the area is being extended and entirely transformed into a light filled, modern, family friendly home. With Italian imported filli frattini bathroom accessories and lighting, marble vanity tops to name just a few high end finishes, it is sure to be another stunningly finished project by new space living.
