Program Structure

The program includes seven week-long in-person residency modules, six online learning modules in which participants broaden their perspectives through teamwork, webinars and team assignments, and a capstone Entrepreneurial Project, in which participants apply their learning and develop their vision for future business opportunities in the sector.

Entrepreneurial Project

The Entrepreneurial Project is an interdisciplinary capstone project that calls for participants to apply the content studied throughout the program. It challenges participants to think critically about real luxury business problems within the framework of a small team. The project requires each participant to exercise creativity, rigor, and perseverance in applying program principles (in areas including strategy, operations, finance, HR, marketing, control, sales, technology management and content development) and hands-on experience to a real-world problem facing luxury markets and to develop effective solutions.

Participants emerge ready to create their own companies or become stronger and more internationally oriented business leaders with a more robust portfolio in hand.

In the EMiLUX program, learning happens in the field through experiences, iterative challenges, and collaboration with cohort peers and academic and industry leaders. While traveling to global luxury hubs, you interact with people and organizations driving the luxury industry forward, analyze their processes and business models, and use them to inform your own.

Academic Director, EMiLUX; Management Professor, ESSEC Business School

Ashok Som is full-Professor of the Management Department at ESSEC Business School. He is one of the pioneering thought leaders in designing organizations and an expert in global strategy. He is author of more than 110 cases, articles and books, such as The Road to Luxury: The New Frontiers in Luxury Brand Management (Wiley 2021, 2nd Edition; translated in Mandarin in 2023), The Road to Luxury: The Evolution, Markets and Strategies of Luxury Brand Management (Wiley, 2015, translated in Mandarin in 2016), International Management: Managing the Global Corporation (McGraw Hill, 2009) and Organization Re-design and Innovative HRM (Oxford University Press, 2008). He holds a PhD in Business Administration from the Indian Institute of Management in Ahmedabad and Habilation from CY University, Paris.

John Bartlett

Director of Fashion Programs for Executive and Professional Studies, Parsons Executive Education

An award-winning designer and proponent of sustainability, John Bartlett has more than 30 years of fashion industry experience. For his namesake collection he received Swarovski’s Best Newcomer Award and was named Best Menswear Designer of the Year by the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) in 1997. He also received the Designer of the Year award from the American Footwear and Apparel Association in 2010. Bartlett received a Lexus/CFDA Eco-Challenge grant in 2012 to create a collection entirely from upcycled and recycled material for New York Fashion Week. He has worked only with recycled or organic materials for more than a decade and promotes the use of earth-friendly alternatives to animal-derived materials such as leather, wool, and down.

Accademia Costume & Moda was founded in 1964 by the academic and designer of costume & fashion, Rosana Pistolese, whose vision was to shape and support the cultural heritage of Italian Costume and Fashion industries in an innovative approach, taking into consideration the interaction between these two fields.
