est of Chico truly is a community event. It could not happen without you, the voters, sharing your favorite community businesses, services and leaders with the CN&R so that we can celebrate all those who make Chico such a great place. We want to thank everyone who voted and helped make this year’s contest such a success. This special Winners’ Issue is a follow-up to our Best of Chico issue. It gives us a chance to highlight the first-place winners as well as the runners-up. Those who took top honors in Best of Chico were invited to a prom-themed celebration at The Palms. We’d like to thank all the winners who came to the party—we saw a lot of creative retro and modern prom costumes. And thanks to everyone who made the winners’ event happen.

With a focus on quality and commitment, this surprising team is putting Vina on the map as a distinguished winemaking region. Vina’s rare viticultural soils were first cultivated by Peter Lassen as early as 1846. in 1890 Leland stanford then transformed these modest beginnings into his Great Vina ranch, becoming the world’s largest winemaking operation. Later, with prohibition looming, the land was sold and nearly 4,000 acres of vines removed.

in 1955, a group of Trappist-Cistercian monks, known for developing some of the most famous european vineyards, settled in Vina establishing the Abbey of new Clairvaux. Today they work with winemaker Aimée sunseri and her family producing awardwinning wines from both Vina and her family’s napa Valley vineyards. They believe wine is not just made well, but also must be grown well. With this in mind, new Clairvaux Vineyard endeavors to resurrect this once-famous region. You’re invited to visit and taste all that this historic and extraordinary winery has to offer.

746 moss ave., 345-6600 3rd place: Best teacher (k-12)

tri counties Bank multiple locations 1st place: Best Bank/credit union Tri Counties Bank has branches in way more than just “tri” counties these days. Even though today it is spread across 24 California counties, the bank founded in Chico in 1974 still maintains its small-town charm. The six Chico branches have a friendly down-home feel thanks to their personable tellers and knowledgeable managers.

sherwood Montessori wants to thank you, Chico, for voting for Carin as best elementary teacher! Carin is wonderful, and the school is proud to have her and several other fantastic teachers from the community. Currently, sherwood has a limited number of openings in Carin’s class and in the other lower elementary classrooms. registration forms for the 2016-2017 school year are now posted at: www.sherwoodmontessori.org. Every child is a unique person with her or his own interests, skills, abilities, and personality. The Montessori approach to education facilitates individualized instruction with multi-age groupings in an environment that naturally fosters a love for learning. • Tuition free public charter school • Beautiful classrooms with engaging hands-on materials • On site, high quality child care before and after school • Music, art, cooking, gardening instruction • For a school tour, call: (530) 345-6600

Owners Gentry and Michelle Power, and their crew, would like to thank the community for recognizing Bidwell Perk as Best of Chico in the categories of Best Local Coffeehouse and Best Place for Tea. in the upcoming year, Bidwell Perk will be celebrating its 20th anniversary. The café is known for its signature drinks like the Godiva Mocha, the art of brewing the perfect cup of coffee, an extensive tea menu, and delicious, fresh-baked pastries. recently, the owners have expanded into a new category, introducing One Mile Wines to the café with a strong beer lineup and diverse wine list. They have also strengthened their breakfast and lunch menus and are now offering new small plates that pair perfectly with their beer and wine list. if you couldn’t find a reason to stop by this quaint little coffee house before, there is definitely something for everyone now! Cheers!
