Liberty Court Bellingdon Road, Chesham
Security and independence
Historic Market Town Liberty Court is located in the Buckinghamshire Town of Chesham close to the Chiltern Hills and the towns of Amersham and Aylesbury. This pretty development of 46 retirement living apartments is ideally located for the town centre. The development itself is named after the local businessman Arthur Lasenby Liberty who was born in Chesham and is famous for opening the Liberty department store on Regent Street, London in 1875. During medieval times Chesham’s primary industries were flour production, woodworking and weaving with its main source of power coming from the river and the four associated mills that were once located on the banks of the River Chess. In the 15th Century the cloth making industry grew rapidly. Later the mills were converted to papermaking to cover London’s insatiable demand for writing and printing paper. Today Chesham is an attractive market town that retains plenty of character, with many residential areas, businesses and industrial centres. The pedestrian High Street features numerous specialist shops, alongside national retailers, cafÊs and restaurants.
Local Amenities In 1257 King Henry II granted Chesham its Market Charter and today Chesham market is thriving with its produce market open on every fourth Saturday of the month. The general market is now held twice a week, on Wednesdays and Saturdays and can be found in the High Street from 9am to 4pm. Within the town there are Sainsbury’s and Waitrose supermarkets, as well as banks, pharmacies, doctor, dentist plus a selection of other shops and restaurants. The town centre is approximately half a mile walk from Liberty Court but can be accessed by a pathway that runs adjacent to the development via the Elgiva Theatre and car park. The development is served well by buses which run from High Wycombe to Chesham via Amersham and the surrounding areas. From Chesham station there is a frequent service to London Baker Street via the London Underground Metropolitan Line, this journey will take approximately 40 minutes. Amersham mainline station, a short bus or taxi journey away, connects London Marylebone to Aylesbury.
