Living in Stenson Fields

Quality of life is about the details of everyday living. From the little things, like knowing the nearest place to pick up a pint of milk, to more important matters like finding the right school or having a health centre nearby, you need to know that the community you’re moving to will support you and your family, as well as be a pleasant place to live. So here’s some useful information about the area around Keepers Grange.


Arts & Entertainment Quad, located in Derby’s Cathedral Quarter, combines a cinema with a gallery space and café bar, and hosts an exciting spectrum of arts activities and discussions. There is also an 11-screen Showcase cinema in Foresters Park, around three miles from Keepers Grange, and Derby Theatre, part of the University of Derby, has an excellent reputation for high-quality drama. Local pubs include the Stenson Fields, a short stroll away, and the Bubble Inn in Stenson, a traditional bar and restaurant with popular themed nights. Leisure & Recreation Moorways Sports Complex in Allenton includes two swimming pools, a gym, badminton and squash courts, sports pitches and track and field facilities, and provides a wide range of classes and activities from aerobics to zumba. The nearby Derby Golf Club in Sinfin combines a challenging parkland course with full clubhouse bar and restaurant facilities, including a thoughtful arrangement by which players can pick up pre-ordered hot snacks between holes 9 and 10. There are also several delightful river and canal-side walks in the Stenson area.

Education & Health Stenson Fields is the nearest of several primary schools within easy walking distance of Keepers Grange, and the local secondaries include Derby High School. Hollybrook Medical Centre, around half a mile away in the Sinfin District Centre, is a full time practice with five GPs, and there is also a dental surgery in the District Centre. Transport There are frequent local bus services connecting Stenson Fields and Derby city centre, with stops just a few minutes walk from Keepers Grange. The railway station at Peartree, a little over a mile from the development, offers limited services to Stoke on Trent and Crewe, while the wider choice of intercity trains from Derby station includes services to London St Pancras, taking around one hour 40 minutes, and Birmingham, around 45 minutes away.

Shopping There are a few shops, including a newsagent, a short walk away in Pilgrim’s Way, and the Sinfin shopping centre, ten minutes walk from Keepers Grange, includes an Asda supermarket with a petrol station as well as a good selection of local shops including a pharmacy and a post office. The largely pedestrianised town centre offers a wide choice of traditional and specialist shops, with over 200 retailers including major high street names represented in the modern Westfield Centre.

From the M1 Leave the M1 at junction 24 (if northbound) or 24a (if southbound) and through the succession of roundabouts follow signs for Stoke-on-Trent and the A50. Stay on the A50 for six miles, then bear left to exit the A50 following signs for Swadlincote and the A514. Take the first exit at the roundabout to join the A514, and carry on for just over three miles then turn right following signs for Stenson (there is also a tourist sign for the Bubble Inn at the junction).
