The famous seaside town of Margate has been a leading seaside resort for at least 250 years. It has been a traditional holiday destination with people drawn in by it’s beautiful sandy beaches. Margate was the first to introduce donkey rides and deck chairs and is now a centre for many year round events and attractions. Set in the south eastern tip of the country in the Isle of Thanet, Margate is an interesting and historic town providing a range of activities. The town’s history is tied closely to the sea and it has a proud maritime tradition. Margate was the ‘limb’ of Dover in the ancient confederation of Cinque ports. It was added to the confederation in the 15th century.
