Longwell Green is a suburb just outside the eastern fringe of Bristol close to the River Avon. The modern spelling of Longwell Green was not officially determined until 1906 when the Bristol Postmaster wrote to enquire the correct spelling and Hanham Abbots Parish Council settled on Longwell Green. The centre of Longwell Green, and the site of the original village, is based on a stretch of the A431 Bath Road, a Roman road formally known as Via Julia which runs from Bath to Bristol. Other local attractions include Hanham Court Gardens, Avon Valley railway and Avon Valley Adventure & Wildlife Park set in 50 acres of beautiful countryside.
