Saffron Square with its striking 45 storey tower is the centrepiece of the regeneration of Croydon and has been designed by the renowned firm of architects, Rolfe Judd. This iconic development will provide over 719 apartments together with retail and commercial space. In its past, Croydon was called Saffron Valley after Autumn crocuses were introduced into the area by the Romans. These were renamed ‘saffron’ (from Arabic) after the Crusaders re-introduced them to western Europe. To reflect the area’s heritage, the tower is clad in muted tones of pinks and mauves to represent an image of a crocus flower.
