An Apprenticeship will see you split your time between the workplace and college so, depending on the qualification or your employer, you will:

• Work four days a week and go to college for one day • Work full/part-time and take a week out on a regular basis to go to college • Work full/part-time with your Apprenticeship programme delivered in the workplace There are three levels of apprenticeships that you could take on at ncn (depending on your experience and qualifications):

• Intermediate (Level 2) • Advanced (Level 3) • Higher (Level 4 and above)

All levels of apprenticeships are made up of a number of elements known as the framework. The level of Apprenticeship depends on the job role and the experience the job requires. An Apprenticeship framework at ncn will always include:

An NVQ qualification (assessed on-the-job) A technical certificate which is delivered in college or in the workplace English and Maths modules Employer rights and responsibilities


P I H S E C I T N E R P P A N A S WHY I U O Y R O F T H RIG Apprenticeships are a great way to study for a nationally recognised qualification whilst getting on-thejob training in the workplace and getting paid for it at the same time. There are lots of reasons why an apprenticeship could be perfect for you, it could be you want to:

• Gain a nationally recognised qualification • Progress within a business and build your contacts • Develop your skillset with hands-on experience • Get a head start in your chosen industry

WHAT WILL I GET PAID? Apprenticeship wages vary according the job and/or your age, for example if you are 16–18 year old and/or a first year apprentice you will earn a minimum of £3.40 per hour, while apprentices aged 18–20 (after being employed for a year) earn £4.20 per hour.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS WHAT DO I NEED TO START AN APPRENTICESHIP? This varies according to what level of apprenticeship you wish to do, but as a rough guide you need to: • Be at least 16 years old • Be able to work 30 hours or more in your chosen industry with a company that is committed to you doing an apprenticeship with them • Be prepared to commit to your apprenticeship for up to two years

WHAT SUPPORT WILL I GET? On your apprenticeship we will support you every step of the way, you will get: • Your own personal assessor will be on hand to provide feedback on your progress and support with any problems you have

• Access to ncn’s learning centres and IT facilities to complete your assignments

• Where possible, you’ll be allocated a workplace mentor to see you through your apprenticeship

• Eligible to purchase an NUS Extra Card

An apprenticeship is a proven way of getting yourself into your chosen industry and there’s a variety of ways it could help you progress in your career onto greater responsibility and pay. You will be earning a wage, while you learn from experienced professionals and meet lots of other people who work in the industry. We offer the chance for our apprentices to progress on to an advanced or higher apprenticeship, if your employer or a new company wishes take you on.
