BEANIES FORBRAINCANCER This week is the NRL Beanie for Brain Cancer Round in honour of Matt Callander, who sadly passed away from his battle with brain cancer in October 2017. Brain cancer kills more children than any other disease and it is responsible for more deaths of people under 40 in Australia than any other cancer. We encourage everybody to get behind Beanie for Brain Cancer Round at all Newcastle Rugby League games this week. We invite you to wear your favourite beanie this weekend or you can purchase a MHF beanie online (https://shop.markhughesfoundation.com.au/) or you cand find a

REPORT: KURRI KURRI BULLDOGS Parrey. Special mention to Dane Corben, Noah Page and Jye Jones for backing up from 19s. With four games remaining in the Open grade, we are in second spot on 16 points. 19?s - M it ch ell?s Ph ysiot h er apy

Applications are being sought for all grade coaching and trainer positions for the 2020 season. Email applications to kurrikurribulldogs@gmail.com by 11th August.

1st Gr ade ? Fir est or m First grade went down 19-16 to Maitland. We saw tries from Ngangarra, Tom McKenzie and Ben Edwards and two goals to Brent Mendyk. In a match where both sides wanted to win, it came down to missed opportunities to build and maintain pressure. 2n d Gr ade ? Fir est or m Reserve grade had a win this week: Kurri 24, Maitland 12. It was a game full of handling errors from both sides. Players Player was Ethan Nizcot and Coaches Award was Craig Richardson. A special mention for a great game goes to Billy Mitchell who stepped up from U19s and did not look out of place in reserve grade. 3r d Gr ade ? Heddon Gr et a Hot el Maitland 18 - Kurri 12. Tries went to John Hamson and Frazer Evans, while two goals went to John Hamson. Best and Fairest: Mark Osterman, Best Back: Dane Corben, Best Forward: Mark Osterman, Coaches Award: Kurt

With both teams struggling with injuries and suspensions, the young bulldogs took on Maitland in an entertaining match. After starting poorly, Jarred Crowe made a late try and Billy Mitchell made a startling effort makng the score 20 to 8 at halftime. Lewis Hughes came up with a 60 metre humdinger to catapult the dogs back into it. Nonetheless, a controversial late try to the Pickers got them home. Mitchell, Hughes, Corben and Chenery all had moments. Nonetheless, we need to be better overall to salvage something from this season. LLT - Heddon Gr et a Hot el Unfortunately, a lack of discipline and some lazy efforts cost the ladies on the weekend against a lower ranked team. The ladies were unable to capitalise on a good start after scoring in the first 2 minutes. With a tough couple of games coming up, the team still have their fate in their own hands if they want to play finals football. Players Player: Elyse Stoker, Coaches Award: Casey Youngberry.

REPORT: MACQUARIESCORPIONS A very good day at the office for the Scorpions last weekend against Lakes United. Fir st Gr ade came away with a much deserved 17-16 win after leading 16-0 at halftime. The win has kept alive the slim semi final hopes but if the squad can play like that over the next four weeks, anything is possible. It was fantastic to see all the debutants have great games with fullback Kendyll Fahey being a standout. Well done to the entire squad.

the ladies had to forfeit, but with only four games remaining, they will complete the year which is an amazing effort from this side. We are up at Maitland this weekend in games that will have a bearing on the lead up to the semi finals.

Reser ve Gr ade also came away with a hard fought 24-20 win with six under 19s playing to assist with the mounting injury toll. Every player did their job for the side. Best for the Scorpions was Josh Walker who had a great defensive game. A great result for this side who have been trying so hard without much success over the last few weeks. Open Gr ade came away with an 18-10 win against the more fancied Lakes United in a game where the Scorpions defence was outstanding. The Scorpions welcomed back Dylan Smith from injury who led the side extremely well and won the coaches award. The win has cemented this side in the top five, but as with the other squads they need to keep winning. Un der 19s went down 10-6 in a hard fought encounter against a quality side. The game was there for the Scorpions to win after being down 10-0 for the majority of the second half, however they were coming home stronger. Unfortunately this side has suffered as a result of the injuries in the club. Best for the Scorpions was Kodie Crowther taking out the coaches award. Ladies Leagu e Tag: Unfortunately

half and he took advantage of given opportunities, playing the ball quick all game.Next week the boys take on Central Newcastle which will again be a tough game, but this team are shaping up as a real premiership threat. The Open grade continue to impress even though they went down 18-10 on the weekend. The boys have plenty of numbers registered and they have a hot chance at winning the competition if they can get most of these players on the field each week. The Reserve grade had another close game, this time going down 24-20. The team had a mix of experienced players and some under 19s who backed up. These results are a credit to Alfie and his ability to get the players to buy into his plans. He had a resilient style of play which has been consistent throughout his playing career.

Newcastle Butcher Boys, our boys can put together a full 80 minutes and truly show what they are capable of in this competition.
