REPORT: CENTRAL BUTCHERBOYS THE BUTCHERS PAPER A tough day at Kurri last Sunday for the club, with injuries continuing to mount our young players continue to step up and take every opportunity. Our 19s and Reserve grade teams had good wins while our Butcher Birds played a draw against a very committed Kurri side in the Blues Tag. Having an extended break due to wet weather and the rep round hurt our 1st grade boys, after a very slow start we came home strong losing by 2 points. We welcome the challenge we face today, again some young players will be given the opportunity to show their skills. Tickets are on sale at the club for our annual ball to held Saturday 3rd August @ Central Leagues, be quick as tickets sell fast for this great event! Central Newcastle RLFC thanks it?s wonderful sponsors, supporters, volunteers, committee and support staff without these people our club would not be here. REPORT: NELSONBAYSHARKS The Sharks took on Souths at Salamander and the improvement in our team was on display again. The Lions attacked the Sharks line for long periods taking the first points mid first half. Haley Dews scored a great individual try with a grubber through the in-goal and took a dive to register the Sharks try making the half time score 6-4.

Proudly Supported by:

The final score was 24-4 however the score was not a reflection of the contest. Souths cored a great amount of field tries and took an intercept which stretched out an otherwise even contest. Players Player: Haley Dews Coaches Pick: Brie Carter We have our first bye next week so enjoy the break ladies. Go the Sharks!

REPORT: KURRI KURRI BULLDOGS 1st Gr ade ? Fir est or m 1st grade had a close win by 2 points. Brent Mendyk?s goal kicking was the difference in the end. Barry McGrady bagged 3. After a good first half and a fantastic try to Sharneakia Tui Nikora, the ladies were left wondering what could have been after letting their lead slip in the second half. REPORT: MACQUARIESCORPIONS A hard day at the office for all the Scorpions sides last weekend against Western Suburbs who are leading the competition in all grades. Unfortunately, the Scorpions sides could not come away with a win in any grade, but the commitment shown by all the teams reinforced that they will be more than competitive as the season progresses.

Cantor in the first few minutes of the game and to Floyd Tighe at the 30 minute mark disrupted the Scorpions and made it very difficult against a red hot Wests side. If the boys play with the commitment they have in the last two games against Kurri and West, there is no reason why they cannot come home strongly to grab a semi final spot.

The Ladies League Tag started the day and the lady Scorpions continued to show great commitment despite being on the receiving end of another defeat. Eight ladies stayed back at the after match presentation demonstrating their commitment. The Under 19s put in a great effort against the competition leaders. The boys should have confidence for the rest of the season considering they had a depleted side. With two minutes remaining, the Scorpions were only down 22-16, but Wests managed to score late to wrap up the game. The Scorpions Open Grade went down 30-8 after being down 24-0 at halftime. Unfortunately the Scorpions mistake rate in the first half allowed Wests to lead, but the Scorpions showed great spirit to win the second half. The Reserve Grade tried hard against a very good Wests side to go down 32-6. With 5 Under 19s playing up in the Reserve grade, it was a really positive performance and also highlights how strong the Under 19s will be in the semi finals. The Scorpions First Grade side went down 38-14 but showed great commitment throughout the game. Unfortunately, injuries to Nathan

display against the Pickers winning 14-4. Niesa Case once again starring for the Seagalls.

The First grade fixture started as a bit of an arm wrestle with both teams getting on the board in the early stages

The Under 19s had a convincing win over the Pickers 46-10, in what was a great team effort Blake Potts had a strong game but no one was better than Bailey Noble off the bench who was busy in defence and scoring 2 tries. The Open grade side was again short on numbers through work commitments and injury but still can hold their heads high after going down 16-6. Drew Little once again had a very strong game, looking likely to break the game open throughout the second half. With some more consistency in player numbers in the coming weeks, we will see this team back to their winning ways. Unfortunately during the game young Corey Pythian came off with a torn MCL and fractured ankle, we wish him a speedy recovery. The Reserve grade had a massive win keeping the Pickers scoreless while racking up 72 points in what was their

of the game. The Pickers then took the ascendency by putting together 4 unanswered tries through high completion rate and a willingness to contest the high ball. After trailing 26-10 at half time Coach Shep gave the team a reality check and some home truths, this proved the motivation needed as the boys scored 30 unanswered points to come home winners 40-26. The team will need to maintain this focus and energy as we host 3rd placed Kurri who are also full of confidence and have a very strong team that will be ready to play tough grinding footy. All the best to Cal Guest who suffered a fractured jaw during the second half, Cal has been Lakes best this year and we wish him a speedy recovery. Thanks again to all of valued sponsors, we appreciate your ongoing support of the club.
