Newbold House Venue Hire
We envision a world
where people live in a life-sustaining culture which supports the interconnected wellbeing of individuals, communities and the Earth. Our Mission is to provide inspiring courses, nurturing retreats, and community living experiences, which offer people from diverse backgrounds a lived experience of this culture and the practical tools for developing it.
Who we are Newbold Trust is a social enterprise dedicated to sustainability, education and open spirituality. Newbold House is the physical home of the Trust, run by a small resident staff group, living in community.
A unique place Our commitment to creating a welcoming, transformative enivronment which supports the needs of our guests spans over 30 years. This nurturing space, in the beautiful North East of Scotland, offers a unique blend of professional hospitality coupled with a welcoming family atmosphere and commitment to service. Our building retains the charm and grace and many of the original features of the late Victorian era. This includes our iconic conservatory offering a wonderful sun-lit oasis in which to sit on summer days, converse, eat a meal with friends or colleagues, sleep, or put the world to rights. Surrounded by 7 acres of organic gardens and extensive woodlands, and close to the unspoilt Moray coast, we offer direct access to nature whilst still being within easy reach of the pretty town of Forres and its local facilities. Whether you are looking for a venue for your workshop, course, meeting, or event, a place to come on retreat, an eco-holiday, or just a place to stay, we think you will find that Newbold offers a very special combination of magical ingredients you won’t find anywhere else.
An inspiring environment Ballroom
Our main rooms for hire are: The Ballroom (8.5m x 6.5m) our largest function room. Decorated in calm soft colours it overlooks the front lawn and provides the perfect space for yoga, dance, workshop or meetings. The Music Room (4.5m x 6.5m) adjoins the Ballroom through a sliding door which can be opened to create one large room. It can also be used as a breakout space or a more intimate meeting room. The Art Room (8.5m x 5.5m) is cosy, and carpeted, with stained glass windows and a wood stove. It is popular for body-oriented and meditative healing work. It is also a great space to use our projector and screen for showing films or presentations. The newly renovated Attic Studio (14m x 6m) provides a perfect setting for dance and movement with a sprung hardwood floor and lots of open space. Our Dining Room has a lovely view over the front gardens with capacity for around 35 people and adjoins the Conservatory. Abundant with plants and light, this is a lovely space for reflecting, chatting during a break or to have a small group meeting. Guests are of course also welcome to use our Sanctuary space and gardens.

Seldom do you find an opportunity to be so looked after or so surrounded by natural beauty. The food is unspeakably amazing, feeling like every mouthful is going to work at rejuvenating every part of you!
I have rented Newbold House twice for my Write, Travel, Transform retreats to Scotland. I cannot imagine a more ideal setting for creativity and building community. And what a great jumping off place for exploration.
The people are wonderful; kind and compassionate, with ethics and values that will rub off and travel home with you. The variety of activities and treatments gorgeous, and the house has a special, magical energy all of its own. I couldn’t recommend Newbold with enough vigour or sincerity. Go! Julia, London
What has been so powerful to me, and to the travelers I bring, is the opportunity to become -- if you want -- part of the Newbold community.
“I’ll be telling people about this place for years to come”
I was repeatedly moved by the incredible generosity and warmth of every member of the Newbold community, making our stay a unique and unparalleled setting for our retreat. Laura Davis, California
Nature & history We are based in Forres on the North East coast of Scotland, a short journey from the picturesque village of Findhorn; both places perfect for craft shopping, coffee and cake and small local museums. We benefit from glorious nature, a microclimate that provides some of the best weather in the UK and close contact with the internationally famous Findhorn Foundation and eco-village. Six miles from the Moray coast, named one of the 12 ‘most beautiful and unspoiled coastlines’ by National Geographic Travel magazine, the area offers a huge range of activities including hiking, biking, wildlife watching, historic castles and gardens, cashmere, whisky and golf! You can also use this as a base for greater exploration of the Highlands, Cairngorm National Park and Loch Ness.
Healthy food Our food is organic, fresh, homemade and as locally sourced as possible. Our menu is mostly vegetarian, but we do eat some sustainably sourced meat and fish. Newbold has a large walled garden and we are able to grow a good portion of our own vegetables and fruit. Our creative and dedicated kitchen team use this produce to prepare delicious, healthy meals served with love. We also plant to support bees and other insects and encourage birds and wildlife. We make our own delicious bread, apple juice from our orchard and preserves from the many soft fruits that grow in our walled garden. Our chickens provide us with fresh organic eggs daily, and we keep our own bees who make the most delicately flavoured fragrant honey you are ever likely to taste!
Enrich your experience Our guests are welcome to experience life alongside Newbold’s Community and there are often opportunities to work in our garden, join meditation, TaizÊ singing, bread and preserve making, play our piano or join workshops and courses (subject to booking/ availability). Yoga is offered by our in-house instructor to provide a relaxing experience for the mind, body and soul. It makes the perfect addition to your workshop schedule, so why not enquire with our team about opportunities to add yoga sessions to your programme?
Make the most of the wonderful wildlife, countryside and coastline of this stunning region with our in-house, nature-based Family Holidays. We can arrange dolphin and seal watching, wildlife tracking, nature walks and more, all with experienced wildlife experts and guides. Other Local Activities include: white water rafting, ceilidh dancing, walks, horse riding, whisky tours, historic castles, woolen mills, local cashmere and lots more! Our close proximity to the Findhorn Foundation community and ecovillage provides a wealth of opportunities for our guests to explore what goes on there, including tours, classes, performances, meditation, singing and more. There are also many integrative therapists of different modalities to choose from in this area and we can provide you with a list if you wish to book a session.
