Crocodiles like water, but not when the water is boiling. Sex, like fire, can be very good but also very destructive; depending on how it is used. Our friends in Europe keep fire in their houses during cold weathers to keep the house warm. Taking the fire out of its place and placing it somewhere else in the home could spark up a great fire which could burn the entire house into ashes.

For her house inclineth unto death, and her paths unto the dead. None that go unto her return again, neither take they hold of the paths of life.” –¬ Proverbs 2:11, 16-19 (KJV).

God give you the eyes to see this young man for who he really is when he finally arrives at your Church. Dear gentlemen, we will be doing ourselves much good if we stay sexually pure until marriage. The Word of God is clear; “For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the adulteress will hunt for the [his] precious life. Can a man take fire in his bosom and his clothes not be burned? Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned? So he that goeth in to his neighbour's wife; whosoever toucheth her shall not be innocent.” – Proverbs 6:26-29. The phrase ‘his neighbour’s wife’ in the above scripture is not only referring to the wife of another man, it encompasses all ‘will be’ wives. Dating is preparation for marriage. For a fact, not all relationships lead to marriage between the two partners. However, the person you date eventually becomes another person’s wife or husband. Ladies and gentlemen, let’s be honest here; do you find it okay that somebody somewhere should be having sex with and fondling the woman or man that will soon become your wife or husband? Sex is to be preserved for marriage. God made it that way for a reason. Come to think of it, it is for our own good after all! We will be doing ourselves much good if we say no to sex and live a sexually pure life until marriage.

Divine hope for the broken hearted By Kisakye Melanie If you are like me, you try to avoid pain at all costs. Some even turn to alcohol to drown their sorrows. Others deal with the pain by filling their lives with hyper activity. The problem when you take this road is that you never really deal with the brokenness. If you want to move from brokenness to wholeness in your life journey, then you must take courage and deal with your pain. You must attack your brokenness with such intensity that you will not accept defeat. The key to wholeness is to find healing by a power greater If you are experiencing brokenness in life, you can identify than ourselves. And this power exists in Jesus Christ. with what I am saying: If I could tell God what I desire in life, I would tell him I want to be successful, wealthy, happy, loved, happily married and admired by everyone on this planet. But the truth is that life is not as we could expect it to be because of the failed plans we encounter in life, broken dreams, misery and even tragedy. We break down by circumstances like poor relationships, physical trials, poverty, neglect, even by consequences of our own actions.

• You feel like you have been kicked in the gut so hard and so often that you are just a shell, a faint shadow of what you used to be. • You feel isolated and alone. • No one seems to care and no one is able to rescue you from Tour Sea of despair. • This intense pain paralyses your heart, enslaves your every thought, and robs you of the joy of life that once brought you pleasure. Jesus understands brokenness. He knows what it is like to be betrayed and ridiculed. He had his word twisted, He was called demon-possessed, tortured physically and nailed on the cross to die as a common criminal. He was sinless and yet died as one who was the worst of sinners. But Jesus overcame his brokenness by being obedient to God at all times. As a result, Jesus rose from the grave on the third day after his death and is alive today. He chose

the road to wholeness by giving his life to God the father and allowing God the father to bring healing. And now, Jesus is asking you to give Him your brokenness. Remember that He does not want just your pain. He wants all of you; your heart, mind, strength. This is the only way you can receive healing from your pain and receive wholeness. You have to follow Him as you savior and play by His rules. Your broken-heart was meant to destroy you but when you give your heart to Jesus, you will find that He is the king of mending broken hearts and find true healing in your life.

m o r f g n i s s e l B e h T a g n i v Li e f i L s u o e t h Rig By Teopista Kizza, 0775 074251 Many people say one is blessed by basing on the material wealth like cars, buildings, businesses etc that a person possesses. However, these are just manifestations of a blessing. A blessing can be defined as a special favour or mercy upon an individual, group, nation etc. A blessing makes a person prosperous, peaceful, secure, adorable, favorable to mention but a few. A blessing is positive and the opposite of it is a curse.

The only true blessing comes from God. God’s blessing is for real and is for life, the other blessings have sorrow attached to them. I give an example of a person who wants to get a blessing from witch doctors and the ransom they have to pay is sacrifice their child. This is the sorrow added onto that blessing. A person who obtains such a blessing can never have a peace of mind even when they have obtained all the riches they needed.

Every one of us would like to be blessed or have a blessing; none of us would want to be a curse or be cursed. In the world we live in today, because each one of us wants a blessing to be rich, favored, and peaceful, name it all, we have tried different ways of getting a blessing.

I was wondering why in most rich families you would find a child that is deformed or insane, at one point, I came to discover that such children usually habour the spirits for which the family sought a blessing to be rich. Other people have lost their wealth through disastrous means, like accidents, theft and gone back to zero just because they attained a blessing that has sorrow attached to it. A person who has a blessing from God may lose all their wealth through theft and other means, but their blessing will manifest again when it has even doubled or tripled. God’s blessing has no sorrow added to it. For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11

Some people have opted to traditional witch doctors, others perform initiation rites at child birth to make their children be blessed, and others have sacrificed their children and done all sorts of things to attain a blessing. My question is, have they attained a blessing through all that they have done? My answer is YES, but the bible says; “The blessing of the LORD makes a person rich, and he adds no sorrow with it”. Proverbs 10:22

How do we tap into God’s blessing? A faithful man shall abound with blessings, but he who makes haste to be rich [at any cost] shall not go unpunished. Proverbs 28: 20. God’s blessing is attained by doing righteous. If we are to take a gaze into the bible of men and women who were blessed, it was after they lived a righteous and faithful life. Abraham fulfilled all righteousness by listening to God’s voice and following his instructions. As a result, God made Abraham's descendants a great nation, Israel, blessed Abraham materially and made his name great, protected him by blessing those that blessed him and cursed those that opposed him, and blessed all the families of the earth through him. Another example is Job, because he had God’s blessing and remained righteous despite all the trials he went through, God was able to bring back in triplet the riches he had lost. Another great example was of a youthful Joseph. He dreamt

when his brothers were bowing down to worship him. When he told this dream, his brothers became envious and sold him to the Egyptians. He was then bought as a slave by Potiphar. God was with Joseph, and he blessed him. Everything Joseph did for his master turned out well. His master Potiphar saw this, and he was no dummy. He said to himself, "Why don't I just let Joseph run everything, and then EVERYTHING will turn out well! Potiphar made Joseph his personal servant, and he put him in charge of all that he owned.

was Joseph. Wow! This led Joseph out of prison made him governor to stock food because famine was to befall the land. Now, the brothers who had sold Joseph came to Egypt as they sought food during the famine and they ended up bowing down unto him. This made his dream to come to fulfillment. This happened because Joseph lived a righteous life after overcoming all the temptations.

At this stage, the youthful and handsome Joseph praised God for after all he went through, he was now promoted. Little did he suspect that his boss’s wife was interested in him? The lady asked the young hunk to ‘lie’ (read sleep) with him. When Joseph refused; she laid a trap for which Joseph overcame. Thereafter she accused him of attempted rape. The little Joseph ended up in prison.

Looking at a time Joseph was entrusted with all that Potiphar owned and then Potiphar’s wife decides to be with him as a secret lover, trust me any young man today can hardly pass this test. Today, a young man as Joseph would think this is a blessing onto a blessing. Being in charge of the boss’s property, end then a secret lover to his wife, OMG! Joseph really deserved a post of a governor after passing this test. For You, O LORD, will bless the righteous; with favor you will surround him as with a shield. Psalm 5: 12

Because God’s blessing was upon him, the Pharaoh had to dream and the only person who could interpret his dream

There are many examples in the Bible, but I will end with Mary, the mother of Jesus. Angel Gabriel said to her, “You have found

favour with God. You will be with a child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end.” This happened because Mary was righteous. She was a virgin. I urge every one of us who is a Christian to remain righteous and patient. God blessed all the families of the earth through Abraham, by being a Christian, you are already blessed. There are many other blessings in the Bible such as: ‘I shall make you heads not tails’; ‘I will bless you in the city and in the village’; etc. All that is required of us is to be righteous so that the blessing of the Lord comes to manifestation. When it manifests, you will have riches that are free of sorrow. Blessings are upon the head of the righteous but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence. Proverbs 10: 6 God bless u all!!!!!!

THE ABCs OF SALVATION The dictionary defines salvation as:

1. Deliverance 2. pardon 3. snatching from the jaws If you want to benefit from God’s gift of everlasting life through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, all you have to do is have faith and follow these 3 easy steps.

Admit - Believe - Confess

Ephesians 2:8-9 “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God not by works, so that no one can boast.”

1. Admit that you are a sinner.

Romans 3:10 As it is written, “There is none righteous, no, not one.” Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God.” Results of sin and God’s gift to us Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” What Did Jesus Do For Us? Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: “While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

THE BLOOM MAGAZINE Issue 1, Oct 2012

2. Believe in the Lord Jesus.

John 3:36, “Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on him.” Romans 10:10, “For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.”

3. Confess The Lord Jesus.

Romans 10:9 That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:13, For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.

Next say this prayer believing with all your heart: “Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner. Lord the sinful life that I lived separated me from you. Lord forgive me of my sins. I believe that you died on the cross and rose on the third day to pay for my sins. From this day forward I will put all my trust in you, Lord show me how to live a life for you. In Jesus name, Amen”

Beauty Corner: Facial Fitness Exercises By Dinah Kitakule

Being beautiful on the outside is all about keeping the face young and looking healthy. We know that the absence of wrinkles and sags, as well as having taut, toned, smooth and glowing skin are the signs of youthful and healthy beauty. Some go through so much just to maintain the vigor and agelessness of their faces, so much that they would spend a fortune on face lifts and other procedures that would keep them looking as close to a sweetsixteen-year-old as possible. There is, however, an inexpensive way of retaining youthful beauty, and that is through observing a regular facial fitness routine – i.e. exercising the muscles of your face. The idea behind facial fitness is similar to the principle of doing a body workout: by exercising, you build up the muscles of your body and keep them toned and firm. In case of the face, by exercising the facial muscles regularly, the muscles will be lifted enough to remove the sags, and the skin sunny glow will be smoothened

enough to remove the wrinkles. The blood circulation to the face will also increase with facial exercises, enabling the tissues of the face to repair themselves more quickly. Maintaining a regular facial fitness routine is easy. It only takes a few minutes of your time and it can be done while watching television or waiting for the stoplight to turn green when driving. Here are a few sample exercises for different areas of the face. Forehead: This will smooth down the wrinkles of the forehead. Place your fingers just above your brow. Then, with your fingers, pull the skin down. At the same time, try to raise your eyebrows. Repeat this ten times. Eyelids: To deal with crows' feet at the corners of the eyes, put the thumbs at the corners of the eyes and then shut your eyes tightly. Then, with your thumbs, pull at the skin towards the

forehead. Repeat this ten times. For sagging eyelids, hold your index fingers close to the brow bone. Afterwards, raise your eyebrows. At the same time, try to close your eyes. Again, repeat this ten times. Cheeks: Form an 'O' with your lips and try to push them forward as fast as you can. Then release the 'O' and smile as widely as you can. Repeat ten times. Lips: Push your lips outward in a pout as far as you can, then smile. Or you can suck on your finger as hard as you can. Once again, repeat ten times. Neck: Arch your neck backward and place your hand on your neck just under the chin. After that, let your hand slide downward and push at your collarbone. An alternative to this one would be to push your lower lip outward as far as you can and tilt your chin up toward the ceiling, resting the hand against the collarbone as you are doing so. Chin: Push your lower lip upward as high as you can. You can also press your thumb on the bone just under your chin and then push your tongue against your lower gums as if it is trying to meet your thumb. Another thing you can do is to tilt your chin up and massage the flesh under it with your thumb with strokes directed towards your neck. These exercises will take care of the double chin. Just like in total body workouts, facial fitness exercises take time. However, if you truly want to see results on your face, try doing this once or twice a day, five times a week. You will be able to see changes in around a month or two.

Did you know your Problems Have Ears? By Annette Wanjala

The Bible tells some fascinating stories that illustrate powerful truths. But sometimes, I like looking at the side stories. They can have some wonderful revelation in them as well. Jesus was walking one day, hungry for breakfast. He checks out a fig tree that is fruitless. He takes out His vengeance on the tree and curses it. The next day, Peter notices and Jesus makes another direct comment about having faith.

that she shot out of bed and began serving everyone. There are many more stories in the Bible of miracles, demons cast out, healings, circumstances turned around. What I find so interesting was that Jesus spoke to things…even inanimate things. He spoke to a tree that was a bother to Him. He spoke to the demons. He even spoke to the weather and it obeyed. Brothers and sisters please understand this: Jesus would have never spoken to these things unless He knew they could hear Him. He also promised that you and I would be able to do the same works and even greater because of the authority given to us as believers. All we need is faith.

Another time, Jesus is asleep in the bow of a boat. A fierce storm arises. The disciples are in a panic and wake Him. He comes to the deck, wiping the eye crust away, stretching as He yawns (my inference) and speaks to the sea and winds. Immediately, the storm calms I hope you understand that your and nearly the same problems have ears. What the Bible says about money. In this issue, I am compelled to share with you these 5 Biblical verses that, even as I just scratch the surface of understanding them, have revolutionized my financial life. Each one of them has had a strong impact on many decisions in my life. I hope you allow them to impact you as well. 1. Philippians 4:19 And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus. If you have earned and handled money at all, you are probably well aware that putting your trust in the economy, your employer, or your bank account is not a good idea. They are all fair-weather friends. They all can be helping you greatly one minute, and then the next everything has changed. God, however, is always faithful. That is why we should always trust Him as our supply! It doesn’t matter if there is a

financial crisis or if you get laid off – God will still supply your needs, just like He promised. 2. Malachi 3:10

blessing, that I will never live any other way.

“Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the LORD Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.”

For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

It is a bold step of faith to start tithing. Cynics sometimes argue that tithing is not required in the New Testament. You know what? I actually agree, since our salvation is no longer based on works, but on faith in Jesus. However, there is no escaping the truth that tithing opens the door for blessing that couldn’t be opened without doing it. From my own personal tithing experience, I can attest that I am so overwhelmingly convinced beyond any shadow of a doubt that tithing increases

3. 1 Timothy 6:10

This verse is so often misquoted that it is almost laughable. Money is not evil. The love of it is. Having a million in your bank account doesn’t mean that you love it. Having $5 in your account doesn’t prove that you don’t. For example, Prof. Gordon Wavamuno has billions in his bank accounts, but he is giving most of it away in charity to benefit the lives of others. On the other hand I have heard stories of people getting killed over a matter of UGX 100,000. It is a matter of the heart that only God can judge.

4. Acts 20:35 In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ Giving sets us free, while hoarding entraps us (James 5:2). Giving changes the lives of others (John 3:16). Giving brings blessing back to us (Luke 6:38).

Giving allows us to store up treasures in Heaven rather than here on the earth (Matthew 19:21). Giving really is fun – we need to be in on it. 5. Proverbs 22:7 The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender. The freedom of being debt free has always been so incredibly enticing to me that I

have been willing to give up a whole lot in exchange for it. In recent times, I have been diligently passing up opportunities to spend as frivolously as some of my peers have done. Getting out of debt is not easy and often requires a fight, but the freedom that comes with it is so worth it. For more, drop Justine a line at justine@ alliedyouth.org.

Holy HUMOUR A father was approached by his small son who told him proudly, “I know what the Bible means!” His father smiled and replied, “What do you mean, you ‘know’ what the Bible means? The son replied, “I do know!” “Okay son,” said his father. “Tell me. What does the Bible mean?” “That’s easy, Daddy...” the young boy replied excitedly,” It stands for ‘Basic Information Before Leaving Earth.’ ________________________________________ A Sunday School teacher began her lesson with a question, “Boys and girls, what do we know about God?” A hand shot up in the air. “He is an artist!” said the kindergarten boy. “Really? How do you know?” the teacher asked. “You know - Our Father, who does art in Heaven... “

Building Your Self Esteem as a Young Christian e Kehler By Katherin

“The only accurate way to understand ourselves is by who God is and by what he does for us, not by what we are and what we do for him” (Romans 12:3 The Message) Recently I was privileged to spend several days with a gorgeous woman. She is about 60 years old, but looks much younger: Slim, firm, beautiful, friendly and very nice. I have to admit, I was a bit envious. But do you know what? I discovered that she, like so many of us, has a problem with low self-esteem. I pondered, “Why do so many young men and women have a low self esteem?” and “What can we do to correct it?” We so often compare ourselves to others and wish we were just like them - their looks, their abilities, and their position you know what I mean. When I was with my gorgeous friend, I was much more aware of my stretch marks and being slightly overweight. Instead of being thankful for what God had given me, I felt like an ugly duckling. The fact is we are listening to the voice of our sinful nature. We have two natures the spiritual and the sinful. The voice we hear from the spiritual nature come from Jesus Christ. The voice we hear from our fleshly nature comes from the enemy (Galatians 5:16-17). The spiritual and the sinful nature are always in conflict with each other.

What then, what can we do to replace the negative thoughts that come to our mind? We can replace the negative thoughts about ourselves by switching our thoughts to God’s truths about ourselves. If you are a Christian: 1. You are a child of the King, not a worthless anybody. (John 1:12) 2. You are complete in Him. You are not lacking anything. (Colossians 2:10) 3. You are forever free from condemnation. You are not guilty. (Romans 8:1-2) 4. You are loved forever, not unlovable. (Romans 8:35) 5. You can do all things through Christ. You are not weak. (Philippians 4:13) 6. You have been given a spirit of power, not a spirit of fear. (2 Timothy 1:7) Let me encourage you to memorize the above Bible verses or write them down on small cards. Have them close by so you can read them when negative thoughts fill your mind. Focus on and believe what God says about you! Oh Father, help us to refuse to listen to the negative thoughts about ourselves. Bring to mind your wonderful comforting words of truth. Amen

Your Questions Answered:

To Tithe or not to Tithe? Hello Bloom, I don’t give regularly to my church but my friends have told me that I ought to pay 10% of my income. What does the Bible say? – – John K. (Kampala)

Speaking of giving, Jesus said, “For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.” In other words, God lets us set the measurement of generosity and measures back to us according to how we have individually given. If we choose a measurement of giving to God that is minimal, God measures that standard back to us.

Hey John,

The tithe clearly shows God’s mind and his standard with regard to how we are to give, and in giving we experience God’s blessings and favour, not just financially but in every area of our lives.

You raise a very important question. Thank you, brother! The Bible definitely has something to say about tithes and offerings. In the Old Testament, tithing was part of the Law of Moses. God was commanding his people to be generous in order to finance his work. But tithing came with a promise of God’s great blessings on their lives. Some people argue that tithing is an Old Testament principle and therefore no longer applies as we are now under grace, not law. But both Old and New Testaments show God’s will regarding generous giving.

e l fi o r P t s Gue Who we are

Allied Youth Initiative – Uganda (AYI – Uganda) is a not-for-profit professional community development organization that promotes youth innovation to drive positive change. Founded in February 2009 by a focused group of dedicated young professionals who had grown up in impoverished societies and experienced first-hand the negative impact of poverty, sexual and gender based violence, poor governance and other human rights violations, AYI – Uganda has steadily established itself as a leader in engaging the youth to create solutions to the challenges they face. We believe young people have enormous untapped potential and can be very effective in instigating positive change in their communities. Our work occurs at the intersection of innovative and entrepreneurial thinking, youth vision and leadership and the need for creative solutions to the challenges facing our community. A simple MISSION: “To motivate and empower youth to continuously challenge ourselves to address the very real challenges facing our communities with vision, dedication and innovation” A contagious VISION: “A free vibrant society where all youth have every opportunity to succeed”

Our values Uniting our work is a focus on shared values: • The importance of collaboration over competition • Meaning over materialism • Hard work and service to community • Transparency and Accountability • Professional integrity • Gender sensitivity and mutual respect. Thematic focus Our programmes and projects focus on 5 mutually exclusive themes including: Reproductive health; Human rights and Good Governance; Gender; Poverty and Environment. Funding Like any charity, we rely on the generous donation of income and gifts-in-kind from a variety of organisations; from private companies, trusts, public organisations and individuals. The support of forward-thinking funders is instrumental in enabling AYI – Uganda to develop and build sustainable and effective services for young people. We are grateful to all our funders, not only for the money they provide, but also for their enthusiasm and belief in what we do. If you would like further information, contact us or call +256 (0) 414 577455 and ask for any member of the Programme Team.
