PLASTIC HOUR In history, there are certain crucial defining times that offer a small window of opportunity when it is possible to act and radically change the status quo. Philosopher Gershom Scholem referred to those occasions as the ‘Plastic Hour’, a moment in time when a rigid social order suddenly turns moldable and people dare to hope. During the past 7 seven years, we have offered a new generation of graduated fashion design talents a sensational stage during Dutch Design Week. A stage that celebrates craftsmanship, vision and creativity as a counterbalance against the decline in material quality, techniques, originality and working methods within the contemporary fashion industry. But our talents and passionate team grew an appetite for a more continuous impact, so throughout the year we started matching our talents with forward thinking brands in the fashion and textile industry to boost a more circular way of conduct. As we flourish, we are beyond excited to soon launch our very own lab, community and maker space in the middle of innovation hub Eindhoven. Passionate fashion design talents can come together with knowledge partners and the fashion and textile industry at large to experiment and offer solutions against hypes and the disastrous consequences of fast fashion for our planet. Plastic Hours are rare and can go by unnoticed or wasted. They require the right alignment of exemplary leadership, public motivation and a sense of urgency, often a crisis. What we need to make fashion beautiful, responsible and fun again are the solutions of smart innovators and iconic and disruptive thinkers. It's not Do it Yourself, it's Do it Together. An urgent and joint investment to mold the future in a new direction. Let’s aim for a hopeful polkadot on the horizon. Let’s move towards a New Order of Fashion. It’s time.

THE CHALLENGE When eying for a new shirt or pair of jeans, most of us seldom think about the tons of water, chemicals, and energy used. Let alone the effects of discarding these garments - on average after being worn a mere 7 times. But the ecological footprint is beyond comprehension. The Fashion industry plays a distressing role at every stage of the supply chain, right from the production and processing of textiles, to the packaging of clothing and the transportation of the garments and their subsequent wear, care and disposal. The industry must therefore rethink its practices in order to stop contributing to major and irreversible planetary damage. For over half a century, the fashion industry has intentionally produced goods of poorer quality to encourage frequent consumption, making it the second largest polluting industry. Sadly, despite industry commitments in 2019 to the UN’s Fashion Charter and The Fashion Pact to lower emissions by 30% by 2030 and reach net-zero emissions by 2050, emissions of the industry as a whole are actually increasing and expected to rise by a staggering 81% by 2030. Many fashion brands still lag far behind in responding to the climate emergency, having only set targets for their offices and retail stores, but not for their supply chain, where 95% of emissions typically lie. The industry needs to take responsibility and clean up its act – quick. The industry must reimagine resource use, and look towards innovative, regenerative, nature-based solutions that preserve and support our ecosystems and biodiversity. This requires us to embrace change and disrupt the hyper-disposable mindset of overproduction and overconsumption. The industry, governments and fashion consumers need tools and opportunities to rapidly integrate regenerative closed-loop systems that keep value and reduce environmental impact. Let’s overcome the frustration and the overwhelming fear together. Let’s disrupt and activate a global shift towards a future that has positive outcomes for our planet. Let’s create a New Order of Fashion!

POLICY & STRATEGY New Order of Fashion is the international platform for exceptional fashion talent. We support sustainability in fashion by presenting fresh and radical perspectives through innovation, experimentation and co-creation. Our goal is to fuel the industries transition towards fully circular practices. The power of design lies in the ability to create solutions for complex issues. Even better, it often offers more than one solution, leaving us with several options to choose from. At this moment, the fashion industry and its players lack hopeful solutions to turn the tides. New Order of Fashion believes that it takes the most forward thinking and genius designers of our time to help disrupt and achieve a more sustainable fashion industry.

New Order of Fashion enables forward thinking design talent to boost the transition towards a circular fashion industry.* This mission converges our two major ambitions:

In times of radical environmental, social and economic change, a collaborative approach is essential. NOoF ignites unparalleled collaboration to help the industry reinvent itself towards fully sustainable practices. New Order of Fashion (NOoF) connects with likeminded institutions and scouts the most forward-thinking fashion graduates from the national and international design academies. We present unique opportunities for the industry to involve bright young fashion design talents to rethink design and reinvent its (over)production systems, combining it with the latest technological innovations and jointly striving towards structural changes that lead to closed loops. *The circular fashion Industry is defined as garments that are designed, sourced and produced with the intention to be used, recycled and circulate responsibly for as long as possible in their most valuable form, and hereafter return safely to the biosphere when no longer of human use.

ACTIVITIES New Order of Fashion creates actionable perspectives through:

NOoF LAB will be a safe-space to push for change through research, experiment, design, and prototyping. NOoF LAB uncovers impactful on-point solutions for our industry partners. The world’s most talented designers get rare access to state of the art innovative tools, age old treasured craftsmanship techniques and a mentor team of material scientists such as Dr. Pauline van Dongen, Dr. Oscar Tomico and experienced designers. NOoF LAB is a place to prototype, research, develop and experiment for young designers of all stripes. Together with our local partners - educators, governments and suppliers - we stimulate an appetite for experimenting and knowledge and skill sharing for those students are just starting their design education and for aspiring fashion makers

NOoF invites textile and fashion companies to be part of an exciting green roadmap to a more sustainable fashion industry. We offer collaborative fellowships that connect brands to pioneering fashion design talent. Together, we stop waste from being produced and find solutions to creatively reuse post-consumer textile waste so we can actively put it back into the fashion system.

To champion our talented and trailblazing designers, to showcase their progress, to illustrate their revolutionary circular ideas and solutions and to activate consumers and industry, NOoF initiates several exhibitions and presentations, both on- and offline. New Order of Fashion is renowned for its mind-blowing spatial designs. Once a year, during the design industry’s most visited event of Northern Europe – the Dutch Design Week - NOoF LAB is transformed and taken over by a new generation of the world’s most talented fashion designers. They show actionable perspective and portray the latest creative solutions that drive change and circularity within the fashion industry.

TARGET AUDIENCE By surprising and informing the right audience of our developments, NOoF wants to achieve awareness, impact and action and create conversations with ears, eyeballs and chattering tongues. We want to tell profound stories and share visually enticing content worth sharing. NOoF’s primary target audience is twofold: Fashion and textile corporations with a sustainable aspiration. Preferably companies with like-minded souls at executive levels that are ready to challenge their status quo and make bold decisions. Companies that understand how starkly broken the system is, that the time to act is now and the way to do it is to act radically different and circular. Forward thinking fashion talent, handpicked from academies around the globe and enabled to boost the transition towards a circular fashion industry. Within our four circular design parameters – 1. design using existing and harmless resources 2. design for minimum waste, 3. design for longevity, 4. design for ease of repair 5. design for recyclability - the creative sky is the limit. Our immediate secondary audiences are multi-fold: Consumers – Stimulate the public to rethink the desire for novelty, the excitement of fast fashion and what the impact of all of this is. Help them reshape the future of their wardrobe, make them question the way they purchase and dispose. Style over fashion. Enable them to demand change and uncover innovation towards circularity. Educational Institutions – share information, facilitate experiments and help educate fashion students on circularity from the source up. Industry experts – from scientists to fashion professionals to policymakers, get them on board and help them to see that creativity can (re)shape the future in a way that reduces fashion’s chemical, water and carbon footprints. Governmental institutions and NGO’s – encourage policymakers to join the conversation, offer them a seat at the table and strive for change through innovative policies that accelerate the transformation towards a circular system. Press – become a leading expert by being a leading example, by being transparent about the process and showcasing talent and successful industry examples.

BRAND VALUES In order to always communicate a clear-cut message in an unambiguous manner we defined the following brand values: NOoF brings experts together and encourages them to discover the magic that happens when they integrate cutting edge creativity into their search for circular solutions. NOoF has activism and rebellion embroidered in its DNA. Our culture was born out of a lively, boomboom, entrepreneurial, heart-out-of-the chest passion and we connect the dots (and talent) quickly when an opportunity arises that gets us closer to our mission. The start and finish point of all we do, feel and get sticky to our handpicked selection of talents. They are our creative driving force towards the circular solution. With a strong emphasis on science and state of the art technology, we propel our talents to the forefront of the circularity revolution in fashion. All projects start with a thorough R&D phase in which we collaborate with leading experts and institutions in the fields of tech, science and craftsmanship to equip our fashion talents with the latest relevant knowledge and tools. NOoF and its designers are an optimistic bunch and we want to be part of the solution. It’s not about blame, it’s about responsibility. We don’t shy away from pointing fingers as the case is urgent, but we offer a forward-looking point of view in order to co-create, collaborate and activate a more sustainable industry. As lovers of the source, the material, the fibers and the yarns that are at the heart of every circular endeavor, a tactile signature will always be at the center of everything we do. The way we present – be it the spaces we transform or our online presentation - is always ‘on point’ and thought provoking. By being at the forefront of innovative and creative progress, our visuals style represents a sense of nowness and urgency that sparks the imagination and instantly inspires change. Documentation and active information sharing play a major role in the journey towards the fashion industry becoming more sustainable. NOoF intends to always share the latest trends, concerns, inventions and creative solutions it encounters as well as offering traceability when it comes to the sources used.
