6th July 2012
Dear Parents/Carers, This week we have had 135 Year 6 pupils join us for a full Transition week prior to them joining us in September. They have worked very hard and adapted to secondary school exceptionally well. Make a Book day proved very popular again and as I write they are all busy trying to build a model in the maths department out of spaghetti and marshmallows! The Prom on Friday was a fabulous occasion and we may have to explore a bigger venue for next year. Thank you to all Year 11 students and members of staff who made this event so memorable and such a success. Open Evening on Thursday, 5th July 2012 from 5 pm to 7 pm was very well attended and there is clarification below of the school PE kit for Year 7 students (moving to Year 8 in September) and Year 6 students joining us in September). Nadine Powrie Headteacher Coffee and Tea with SLT (Senior Leadership Team) Thank you to those parents who attended this week. Feedback was very positive and it is always helpful to hear your views. The next session is on 11th July. If you are able to attend please contact Mrs Whale at firstname.lastname@example.org. Wednesday, 11th July from 4 pm to 5 pm SLT would like to share with you what was discussed this week with parents who attended: Ofsted: Parents appreciated the hard work that has taken place in school to achieve the Ofsted grade we did. We explained our plans to now move towards Outstanding status. Homework Inconsistency of homework setting and marking was discussed and parents were pleased to learn that we were already aware of this and that steps have been taken to make changes from September 2012 to introduce more consistency. Parents asked if they could see their child’s work more regularly and we advised that students can take their workbooks home to share with parents on a regular basis Exam Progress We are making good progress. Communication Parents appreciated the newsletter and the information contained within it. Having it sent by email was very convenient. Several parents had contacted the school and praised the speed of response they had received from staff. Teaching There was discussion regarding the use of cover staff in lessons. We explained that we will not appoint staff Appointments to teach students at school who we do not feel are good enough. It has taken time to make the right appointments and we are now receiving a much higher number of applicants for each position advertised as word of the rapid and sustained progress of the school spreads. PE Kit Important Update — Please note the kit is only on sale via the school. The new school PE kit approved by the Governing Body comes into effect from September 2012 and applies to all new students joining Year 7 in September. The PE kit is also required for those students currently in Year 7 who will be in Year 8 from September. There has been a great deal of interest from parents in other year groups and orders will be accepted across all years. Order forms are being sent home to Year 6 today and to Year 7 on Monday. Alternatively they can be collected from the school office. Orders should be placed before the end of term and you will be advised when the kit is ready for collection.
