MAKE YOUR CHOICE

From high back lounge chairs to recliners, there are many different types of lounge chair to choose from for you and your home. Depending on the style of your interior or how you prefer to relax, some types of lounge chair may be more suitable for you than others and can completely change the look and feel of your interior. High back lounge chairs As with the Fritz Hansen Ro Easy Chair and Tom Dixon Wingback Armchair, high back lounge chairs are designed to give you that little bit of extra privacy without shutting you away from the surrounding space and often encourage better posture. There also tends to be something quite grand and luxurious about a high back lounge chair!

Lounge chairs with ottomans Many of our lounge chairs have an accompanying ottoman, which allows for that extra bit of relaxation and comfort. When you don’t wish to recline or stick your feet up, the ottomans can easily be stored away or used as additional low seating. Swivel base lounge chairs Swivel base lounge chairs allow for versatility and mobility without compromising on style and are perfect for placing more centrally in a room. The Fritz Hansen Swan Lounge Chair and Vitra Grand Repos Lounge Chair with swivel bases are two iconic examples, with the latter also being suitable as an office chair. Consider your material

Statement lounge chairs Whether the statement is made through colour, form, texture or pattern, a statement lounge chair is one that immediately captures your attention when entering a room. From the wild and experimental Cappellini Proust Geometrica Armchair to the intriguing Moroso Paper Planes High Armchair, a statement lounge chair is like a piece of art in itself as well as a functional piece of furniture.

The majority of our lounge chairs come in a multitude of different materials to suit your interior style and tastes. Leather typically has a luxurious, executive or classic quality, whilst fabric tends to be warm and welcoming and plastic contemporary and simple.

FACTORS TO CONSIDER

As with any home purchase, it’s all too easy to fall in love with aesthetics without taking other factors into consideration. However, asking yourself a few quick questions will help to give you confidence in your decision and bring you one step closer to your dream purchase! Is the lounge chair suitable for your needs and requirements? Are you looking to make a statement with your lounge chair or choose something that will subtly complement your interior? Will the lounge chair work in the space that you have available? Essentially all lounge chairs are designed for relaxing, so it makes sense that every lounge chair is made to be as comfortable as possible. However, comfort levels are also based on your own personal needs and requirements and what may feel comfortable to one person may not be as well suited to another. Thinking about how you usually prefer to sit and relax in a chair is just as important as considering its style. Once you’ve made your purchase, it’s always worth taking the time to consider

your surroundings and take any necessary precautions to keep your lounge chair in tiptop shape. For example, we all love our pets, but moulted dark fur never looks good on a light coloured chair! Finding the perfect throw to accompany your lounge chair or keeping it out of reach of your pets will save you unnecessary hassles along the way. We hope these simple factors help to give you confidence in your purchase, without being taken as the be all and end all of your decision! If you truly love a piece of design, then follow your heart.

TIP Lounge chairs don’t just have to be positioned against the wall! Experiment with placing your lounge chair more centrally or facing towards a window, depending on what suits your space.

A BIT OF HISTORY Knowing a little bit of history behind the designer of your lounge chair can help you to understand its purpose, why it was designed in a particular way and what makes it that extra bit special. We briefly take you through the history of three famous designers who made some of the most iconic lounge chairs to this day.

Charles & Ray Eames

Arne Jacobsen

Two of the most influential furniture designers of all time, Charles & Ray Eames have produced some of the world’s most recognisable design classics from across the last century and are highly respected for their long-lasting commitment to design. The couple met at the Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan in the 1930s and it wasn’t long before they developed a relationship and quickly fell in love. In time, they set up their own plywood workshop and started putting their ground-breaking ideas into action. Their fascination with the malleable properties of plywood resulted in revolutionary designs such as the classic DCW Eames Plywood Chair and of course, the Eames Lounge Chair & Ottoman. Although both of them passed over 25 years ago, their legacy continues to live on as strong as ever and Vitra manufacture their designs across the whole of Europe.

A pioneer in Danish design, Arne Jacobsen had a natural flair for combining exceptional forms with simple and refined Nordic elements and was one of a number of architects who helped to introduce the concept of functionalism to Denmark. His journey first began when he won a place to study architecture at the Royal Academy of Arts in 1924, before moving on to design iconic buildings such as the National Bank in Copenhagen. He was also a distinguished furniture designer and produced classics such as the Egg and Swan Lounge Chairs. His designs are now sold through the Republic of Fritz Hansen for all to enjoy.

Eero Saarinen Eero Saarinen grew up in a family of design enthusiasts, with his father Eliel working as an architect and his mother Loja as a weaver and photographer. With his background in mind, it’s not surprising that he moved on to become a highly respected designer and architect. Although his time as a furniture designer was only short-lived, he produced many classic designs that are still loved and sought-after today. The Womb Chair made exclusively for Knoll set new standards for modern design, thanks to its inner foam cushioning and moulded fiberglass shell.

DESIGN CLASSICS Great design is timeless and that is why many of our modern and contemporary lounge chairs have made it into our design classics collection. From the best of Scandinavian and British design to Italian and American classics, we select the most innovative lounge chairs from across the last century for their high quality, durability and adaptability to be cherished for years to come.

Knoll Barcelona Chair Renowned for their iconic and ageless designs, Knoll are the masters of quality. The Barcelona Chair designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe is upholstered in either black or white leather and is hand-welted, tufted, buffed and finished to perfection.

Fritz Hansen Egg Lounge Chair Originally designed by Arne Jacobsen for the lobby and reception areas of the Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, the Egg Lounge Chair has a curved shell body and arched back for privacy. Thanks to a strong foam inner shell beneath the leather upholstery, the Egg Lounge Chair is also exceptionally cushioned and comfortable.

Carl Hansen CH07 Shell Chair Oiled Oak With its deep and sculptural shape, the CH07 Shell Chair is incredibly inviting even at a first glance. Designed by Hans J. Wegner, the chair almost appears to float thanks to its lightweight aesthetic, despite being robust and solid.

Vitra Eames Lounge Chair & Ottoman The perfect gentleman’s chair, the Eames Lounge Chair & Ottoman was designed by the revolutionary Charles & Ray Eames and has become something of a design icon. Like a soft baseball glove, the chair encourages you to sink back into it and take advantage of its utmost comfort.

Swedese Lamino Easy Chair Elegantly beautiful and simple, the Lamino Easy Chair is the perfect example of rustic Scandinavian design. Designed by Yngve EkstrĂśm, the chair is upholstered in soft Skandilock Australian Sheepskin and is adored by the Swedes and design enthusiasts alike.

CARING FOR YOUR LOUNGE CHAIR Once you’ve introduced your new lounge chair into your home, you’ll want to make sure that it continues to look as wonderful as when you first bought it. The following suggestions are recommended for general care, but for more specific instructions, please always refer to the manufacturer’s guidelines. Direct sunlight or heat can cause minor fading to your upholstery, especially when it comes to materials such as cotton and linen. We all love to bask in the sun, but ensuring that your lounge chair isn’t exposed to sunlight when unnecessary is definitely well-worthwhile. To avoid engrained stains or dulling, we recommend that you lightly brush or vacuum your lounge chair weekly. If you do accidentally stain the upholstery, then most materials can be wiped clean with a soft damp cloth, with the exception of delicate materials such as 100% soft wool. For leather lounge chairs, you can remove light scratches by gently buffing with a slightly damp cloth.
