From the cover: The Pampas Deer (Ozotoceros bezoarticus) occupies a range of open habitats, in particular grassland areas and the Cerrado shrublands. The photo was taken at the Emas National Park, one of the largest protected areas established in the Brazilian Cerrado. As most mammal species, it is threatened by habitat conversion to agriculture and cattle farming. Loyola et al. (p. 1-6) highlight major themes of applied conservation research pointing to recent advances in conservation science for mammals. Photo credit: Nathália Machado.
