From the Creator of HBM... I

t’s our first edition for spring and we have an awesome ‘spirited living and self-love’ feature this month! Spirited living for me is about following my bliss… what does it mean to follow my bliss? It’s being true to myself and moving towards the things that light me up. Before starting the magazine, I was looking for a new project and after a few jobs didn’t work out, I started to wonder what was next. I was still writing some holistic freelance articles and seeing a few clients, and at the same time, my creativity was bubbling away. When I sat with the idea of ‘Holistic Bliss’, I couldn’t think of anything more exciting as a career than sharing inspiring stories, creating a community voice and being part of the change process. After some encouragement from a number of people, I created the magazine and I started off small at eight pages and used my only savings for a couple of years while the magazine was getting off the ground. Was it the easiest thing to do in the world? No! Has it created change over the last eight years? I would say from the feedback we receive, it continues to make a difference in people’s

lives, opens doors and presents a range of perspectives. And the magazine has contributed to every area of my life and I have met some phenomenal people, so I am eternally grateful. What things make your life spirited? What things bring you joy? We are delighted to have the one and only Toni Childs with us this month! Wow what a voice and what an amazing being! I have such fond memories growing up and listening to her unique and powerful music in the 80/90s and music was such a big part of bringing joy and peace to our family. Toni is a spirited woman and leader in the world of music and please read the great cover story from Emily Steckelbruck on page 12-13 which also shares Toni’s healing story and career developments.

Serves 2 Ingredients: 2 cups fresh coconut meat – julienne the flesh 2 large zucchini 1 large mango – julienne the flesh ½ cup arame – soaked in water until soft 3-4 shallots cut into 3cm lengths 12 cherry tomatoes cut into 4 Large handful sunflower sprouts 1 avocado finely sliced lengthwise

Method: Using a mandolin cutter finely julienne the zucchini. Place all ingredients in a bowl leaving out the avocado and toss. Add avocado and toss gently. Add dressing and toss gently again. Dressing: ½ cup fresh lime juice ½ cup olive oil 1 tbsp almond butter 1 tsp tamari

¼ tsp sesame oil 2 tbsp agave or birch xylitol 1 soft pitted date 1 dtsp fresh ginger 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper Pinch celtic or Himalayan salt Method: Process in the blender until smooth, then strain through a fine mesh strainer into a small storage container until ready to serve.

Prep Time: 15 mins Cook Time: 1 hr 30 mins Total Time: 1 hr 45 mins Stuff your face with these heavenly delights. It’s easy to make and so, so delicious! Ingredients: STUFFED SWEET POTATOES: 2 sweet potatoes ½ onion ½ zucchini chopped 3 mushrooms chopped ½ cup corn kernels ½ cup peas ½ cup broccoli cut small ¼ cup red capsicum diced 400g can tinned tomatoes 2 tbsp korma paste 1 tbsp tomato paste 125g can of 4 bean mix

TAHINI GARLIC SAUCE: 1 tbsp tahini Juice of half a lemon 1 clove of garlic Pinch of salt 2 tbsp water to blend To serve: Fresh coriander optional Sprouts or micro greens optional Avocado optional Fried onions optional Method: Pierce the sweet potatoes with a fork a few times on each side. Bake in the oven for an hour and a half at 180°C or until they are soft. While the sweet potatoes are cooking add the onion, zucchini, mushrooms, corn, broccoli, peas and red capsicum to a frying pan. I used a little water instead of oil to fry them in (about a

tablespoon). Fry for 5 minutes or until onion is slightly soft. Then add in the korma paste and mix it around. Add in the tomato paste, 4 bean mix and tinned tomatoes. Cook on medium heat for another 5 minutes. Make the tahini garlic sauce by blending all ingredients in a blender or Magic Bullet until smooth. If you like it more runny, add a little bit more water. Once the sweet potatoes are cooked cut them lengthways down the middle and scoop the korma mixture into the middle. his curry is full of flavourful healthy ingredients! It’s easy to make once you have everything prepped. Your friends and family will love it and it’s a big hit of one of my clients, Orlando Bloom. NOTE: I like using broccoli, onions, zucchini and capsicum as a base and adding other veggies I have on hand. Prepare veggies, other ingredients and open the coconut cream before you start the recipe. TIP: For a heartier dish you can add firm tofu cut in bitesize pieces or cooked bitesize pieces of organic chicken, prawn or salmon to the recipe. I also love to finish this dish (stir in oils right before serving) with 1-2 drops of Young Living Culinary Oils and lemon, coriander and/or black pepper oils really add a lot of flavour to this dish.

Serves 4-6. Prep time 15-20 minutes, cooking time 15 minutes. Ingredients: 2 tbsp coconut oil 1 medium onion, finely chopped 2 tsp ginger, finely minced (to taste) 1 garlic clove, finely minced (to taste) 2 tbsp curry powder (mild or spicy to taste) 1 tsp cumin seeds 2 tsp sea salt and freshly ground pepper (to taste) 2 cans coconut cream or coconut milk 2 tbsp honey or coconut sugar (to taste) 3 cups assorted veggies, cut in large bite size pieces 1-2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley and or coriander 350g cooked chicken, prawn or salmon cut in bitesize pieces (optional) 1-2 drops lemon, coriander and/or black pepper culinary oil (to taste)

Method: 1. Heat oil in a medium-large pot over medium-high heat, add onions, ginger and garlic and cook for 1 minute while stirring. Add curry powder, cumin seeds and salt and pepper and stir. 2. Immediately add the coconut cream and honey and continue cooking while stirring occasionally for 5 minutes. Add the veggies and chopped parsley and cook approx. 10 minutes. If using tofu or cooked chicken, prawn or salmon gently stir in and cook for 5 minutes until heated through. 3. Check for seasoning and add a little more salt and pepper if desired and serve over cooked quinoa or brown rice. ’m the first person to admit that a colonic is more than just a physical release – for many people, a colonic is also an emotional and spiritual release. The colon is where the body stores waste products ready for elimination, so it makes sense that if we have emotional and spiritual ‘waste’ then this can be released via our colon too. I encourage clients to tap into their feelings and try to release anything that is no longer serving them – whether it be old emotions, unhelpful behaviour patterns or unresolved anger. This is one reason why people say they feel lighter after a treatment, not only in their gut, but also in their mind. It’s suggested that we store different emotions in different parts of our colon. Take a look at these emotional colon blockages and see if any present as physical manifestations in your body. Ascending colon = Anger Your ascending colon sits just below your liver on the right-hand side of your abdomen. Energetically your liver is a

fiery organ, hence the ascending colon adopts some of this fire to represent unresolved anger. If you regularly feel pain in this area, it’s quite possible you have some old hurt that needs clearing so that you can move forward both physically and emotionally. I encourage you to tap into this emotion during your colonic. You will often witness a big physical release exiting the viewing tube towards the end of your treatment as you focus on clearing this anger. Transverse colon = Anxiety and worry Your transverse colon is positioned from right to left across your midsection. We generally feel anxiety in the pit of our stomach, correct? This is because our gut and brain are so closely interconnected, that any imbalance in the gut is going to be reflected in both organs. A good technique to release this anxiety during your treatment is to take some deep low breaths to send a heap of oxygen-rich blood to your colon muscles and re-engage this area.

Descending colon = Sadness and fear Your descending colon travels down your left-hand side of your abdomen, from your ribs to your hips, and is strongly correlated with feelings of sadness, loss and fear. Physically, the descending colon is one of the last parts waste will travel before leaving your body. Similarly, feelings of sadness, loss and fear can be so deep-rooted, that they are the last emotions we cleanse and process. People who experience discomfort in this location often benefit from a colon cleanse, as it chips away at years’ worth of waste and can help with a fresh start or new perspectives. self-confessed lioness, Toni Childs is an example of self-love made manifest in today’s world. As we settle in for our interview with fresh cups of tea, there is a profound contrast of powerful energy intertwined with an intrinsic soft, feminine essence that surrounds this Emmy winner and three-time Grammy nominated recording artist. Toni has secured her place in the limelight of the cut-throat performance industry. For over 30 years, she has not only survived as an artist, but thrived. It’s

clear this is a woman who knows who she is, and has a message to share with the world. In 2016, she spent the year travelling to countries all over the globe, noticing no matter where she went, the same thing was everywhere; a global disconnect from self… something that she experienced 20 years ago herself. Diagnosed with Graves’ disease in 1997 at the height of her fame, she was told by her doctors that it was her lifestyle that caused it. “This disease dismantled my life, it changed the way my life was going,” said Toni. Graves’ disease changed her life as she knew it; she

realised she was still living on the dreams of her 16-year-old self. “I had gotten so busy doing, achieving and striving, that I had lost my practice. My practice of daily mindfulness, self-awareness and selfcare… lost.” Moving herself off grid onto an organic farm on the Island of Kauai, Hawaii, where she grew her own fruit and vegetables, meant she could lead a sustainable life. Toni took time out, replanted herself, and learnt how to care for and love herself again. Within a week of creating space for herself, Toni gained insight that her disease was in fact an accumulation of environmental stressors and proceeded

to get two tests done to confirm this: a hair analysis and an allergen analysis. “The thyroid is the first line of defense for our body, so when my results came back that I had high levels of mercury in my body as well as a sulfate and chlorine allergy (found in toothpastes, shampoo and our water), I understood that I needed to look at the cause of my illness – not just take the medications that would treat the symptoms.” During the times she wasn’t meditating and committing to her selfcare practices, was when she wasn’t ‘plugged in’ to herself. “I wasn’t caring for myself and gave my power away to the doctors. I allowed myself to think that I didn’t know what was best for my own body,” she said. One morning while walking on the beach of Kauai, the ocean was so still and calm, it looked like a lake and dolphins visibly jumped and played in the blue depths. Toni met a woman called ‘Be Love Joy’ from Texas, “She had a honeycomb voice and reminded me of fresh baked cookies!” Toni laughed. “She was so juicy and after we talked for a while, she wanted to know my story.” After Toni told her tale, ‘Be Love Joy’ said, “Well don’t you know all disease is a lack of self-love? Get in the shower and love yourself!!! “And so, I did,” Toni said. “I went back to my land and got into the outdoor bamboo shower where I started at my toes and said, ‘I love you, I love you, I love you toes’ and as I worked my way up my body I stopped. I was aware that I had great resistance to saying ‘I love you’. It was really interesting noticing this. If this was a child’s foot, I would have no problem saying, ‘I love you toes, I love you feet’… So I started to speak to myself like a child, and as I made my way up my body, I started sobbing a sob that was so great it had no sound. As I connected into my child-self, I saw the absolute beauty and love that I was.” From that moment on, Toni decided to consciously love herself. She created her water meditation; a daily practice of going to the beach every day and following that with a shower… a shower of love. “I thanked every single inch of my body and told it, ‘I love you’. Within six months I was off the medication, as I no longer needed it. Through an innocent accident of meeting ‘Be Love Joy’ while walking on the beach, I healed


myself without even trying.” In 2003, when performing in ‘The Vagina Monologues’ to raise money for an abuse centre, she met Eve Ensler, author of the play. “Eve asked me to write an anthem that would inspire people to end violence against women and girls for all time… she said that I couldn’t say no and she wanted it for her documentary, ‘Until the Violence Stops’.” How do you write an anthem that will affect all women and the world forever more? Toni said it was from asking herself, “What would be the first thing needed to stop violence against women?” The answer was that women needed to stop the violence they inflict on themselves every day (through negative self-talk) and learn to love and accept themselves, seeing themselves for who they really are, love. The song she wrote, ‘Because you’re Beautiful’ went on to win an Emmy that same year. “My love for music was reborn, I created an album, ‘Keep the Faith’ and started touring again.” When she toured, she became conscious of the ‘disconnect’. “I don’t want people to lose their juiciness, their power, I want to sing to them what the truth is – that they’re beautiful. As soon as I invited all of the women in the audience to be with me on stage and I sang to them – they lost their composure, becoming softer, being vulnerable and crying.” Seeing this powerful reaction from her music, Toni wanted to dive deeper, in a safe, intimate place – somewhere where it was safe to be vulnerable. And so Toni Childs’ ‘Because you’re Beautiful’ 3-hour yoga sessions were born. “In my own effort to heal myself

and accept myself, I found a deep need and want for all of us (human beings) to resonate at a higher frequency… my healing journey allowed me to fall organically into yoga teaching and hosting retreats. This is my work now, alongside my music as an artist.” Constantly growing, learning and evolving; alongside her music, Toni is also a writer, installation artist, environmental activist, yoga teacher and mindfulness teacher. “Music is all about emotion and delivering deep. Spiritual Healing” has occurred for millions of years. Egyptian, Aztec, Inca, Atlantis, Mayan and more have recorded ‘healings’ in their hieroglyphics, statues and artwork. Documented ‘healing’ can be seen in the ancient holy books such as: the Koran, Sanskrit, Book of Enoch, Akashic Records and Bible. The concept of healing and its power was to be seen by some humans that could see the potential. As spiritual healing subsided, the practice of healing through medicine became popular with the masses, since it did not demand the faith required by spiritual healing. Later antagonism arose between the church and the medical profession. Throughout history the study of healing and the human body continued, secretly. One great Greek philosopher and metaphysician was Plato. Plato was a mathematician, writer of philosophical scripture and shared the world of metaphysics. Plato shared: “The part can never be well unless the whole is well.”

Many other traditions of health care are still practised throughout the world; most of these are separate from Western Medicine, which is also called ALLOPATHIC, BIOMEDICINE or the HIPPOCRATIC tradition. The earliest type of spiritual healing in most cultures was the use of plants (herbalism) and animal parts. This was used with ‘magic’ of various kinds in which animism (the notion of inanimate objects having spirits); spiritualism (meaning an appeal to GODS or communion with ancestor spirits); Shamanism (the vesting of an individual with mystic powers); and Divination (the supposed obtaining of truth by magic means), played a major role. The Caduceus symbol is ancient and has been used for many lifetimes. It has been used in the medical field, politics, government, shamanic healing, metaphysical healing and in the ancient writings of the Bible, Book of Enoch and more. The staff located in the middle represents an antenna to the I AM GOD/ABSOLUTE consciousness. The complete ball in the middle is the

birth of the whole universe through sacred sphere. It is the sacred symbol of UNCONDITIONAL LOVE. The two serpents/snakes represent the integration of all dualities into one – that be-ing the ONENESS, truth, LOVE. Snakes correspond to healing, change and awakenings. They are also the symbol for Kundalini energy – a sacred and psychic energy. They are keepers of KNOWLEDGE. The wings represent freedom. ust over a year ago, 33-year-old Bli Bli resident Sarah Rogers was delivered the news no one wishes to hear. It was confirmed she had locally advanced breast cancer, after having found a suspect lump. Faced with that diagnosis, and the myriad of emotions that come with it, Sarah knew she would need support and shoulders to cry on. Determined to fight, she was motivated by her love for her husband Dave and their young son, Zack, who was 4 at the time. Thankfully, a conversation with the hospital psychologist led Sarah to Bloomhill Cancer Care. Based in the rainforest in Buderim, the centre is a notfor-profit charity that supports people on the Sunshine Coast through their cancer journey. Supporting therapies and services are available weekdays from 8.30am to 4.30pm in a safe, calming and peaceful atmosphere. Sarah’s first contact was with Bloomhill nurse Merran Williams, herself a breast cancer survivor. “I had just started chemo and I felt so scattered, just a mess really,” she said. “It made such a difference to be in an

CARING environment where there is genuine help and shared understanding.” Sarah’s medical treatment included chemotherapy to shrink the tumour so she could then have surgery, which took place in March. A mastectomy of her right breast was performed in addition to an axillary dissection and now she’s undergoing radiation and hormone therapy, and in the future will consider breast reconstruction. “It has been such a long road, but coming to Bloomhill has been so good,” Sarah said. “So many others have been through similar experiences and there is such an exchange of knowledge and support. It often happens very naturally over coffee, or lunch or just an informal chat.” Sarah said the wide range of therapies and services at Bloomhill were a godsend. In particular, she has loved the meditation workshops which have allowed her to “think clearer and feel better”, gaining control over her scattered thoughts and fears. She has also benefitted personally from exercise physiology, the lymphoedema clinic, yoga, massage and acupuncture. Bloomhill also offers

allied health services such as psychology, nutrition and counselling. New additions to Bloomhill’s program include pilates, Bowen therapy and there have been short courses in Tai Chi and micro-gardening which were a huge hit with clients. Monthly free public education talks are also held, covering a wide range of topics relating to cancer, relationships and emotions. Inspired by support received on her journey, Sarah has become a qualified hypnotherapist and now looks forward to helping others in theirs. “Bloomhill is a much needed service with amazing staff and volunteers,” she said. “Some days just getting out of the house was a struggle, but when I knew I was coming to Bloomhill it really made a difference. I was positive and much calmer.”

orking with people on their path of healing has clearly shown me what most seek is to feel connected, worthy, loved and to find their purpose. Most of the searching people do is external, but the most important factor in this quest is to ‘know thyself’. Spiritual and personal growth happens gradually and at times in big leaps with enormous breakthroughs. Understanding reactions and responses are key, so too is understanding your personal archetypes. Decades of research assists us to gain clarity in the light and dark aspects of archetypes in the hope that we will truly understand who we are, accept it and use our innate gifts for our highest potential. The ‘dark side’ of our archetypes comes to the fore when we feel threatened, frightened and deeply insecure. An individual who finds themselves looking after an ageing parent may be ‘a nurturer’; caring comes naturally, they don’t need

accolades and their reward is feeling content with being supportive. However after years of being berated and put down with no action ever seeming to please the parent, the shadow side of this archetype may develop, resentment may set in, and they start to play the martyr role and act out by holding back genuine caring feelings as a form of punishment. As with all shadow behaviours, the underlying feeling is a lack of self-worth, disconnection and self-protection. The ‘Facilitator or Connector’ types help progress situations and experiences of others through introductions or inspiring others to unite in a cause. Are their motives pure? Is there a sense of needing to be needed, public recognition or personal gain? You may be recognising some of these aspects in yourself or others as you read, instead of judging these observations, I suggest viewing them as a learning opportunity, to gain compassion and for understanding the human psyche. Archetypes some people would

rather deny such as ‘The Gambler’ have many aspects, they’re the risktakers, entrepreneurs, they follow feelings or hunches rather than facts and have great adventures. The shadow side can be seen as someone who is compulsive about winning, taking risks in relationships and spending their last resources on a sure thing. The ‘Regal Queen’ has a lot of power, she is generous to her court (family) and protects them well, however the shadow sees her as a controlling, manipulative woman and doesn’t like her position being threatened. The negative depiction of a mother-in-law comes to mind with this archetype which can be interesting if her son-/daughter-inlaw have ‘The Rebel’ archetype! Pay attention to patterns of behaviour with archetypes, they are all in the human consciousness and therefore can be an isolated incident not necessarily part of your personality. e grow immensely from our interchanges with others. Synchronicity plays its part continuously. All societies encourage duplicity underpinning truth. From the cradle we receive mixed messages on what is acceptable where and, before we know it, we have multiple masks, all kicking in on autopilot: One face for parents and family, other faces for degrees of connection, another for work. Always, hidden underneath, is the true self trying to shine through. Remember meeting someone, and as they leave you wonder “Who is that person? What are they up to?” That’s affirmation they are wearing a mask. Most people are not consciously aware they are wearing them, or how damaging they are to themselves. I have met many who make claims they have studied this and they have done that and we should listen to what they have to say and do it their way… but what I truly see is their actions and reactions. That they are not balanced,

they cannot stay at point zero. They carry judgement against others. They have resentment against others. They cannot sit and listen to someone else’s point of view and accept that as that person’s true belief, because it works for that individual. Meeting spiritual people comes in all shapes and colours, they are true to themselves 24 hours a day. Their spirit is continually shining through, some don’t even categorise themselves as spiritual, as they are just living their own life… they are humble… being humble is being spiritual. They openly seek help if they are troubled if they are unable to sort it themselves. They listen to everyone, and remove themselves, when they feel it. That same person who is really being kind and has heard every word you said, without judgement, is being the spiritual being with only one face… the same face where ever they are; as they have no fear of being judged on whom they truly are. That is a spiritual being.

Being spiritual is not about what food you eat, or what clothes you wear, or what music you listen to. Nor is it about doing yoga or meditation. Spiritual being comes from within. Doing something external to make yourself look spiritual is only going to wash away. Surrendering to your spirit within, shines through with amazing results. People can overcome the worst illnesses and heart breaking circumstances. They are humble when they talk about what they have overcome, they show no fear of telling of whom they were and where they have come from. They will share all that they know and help the best way they can. Your spirit, your life force is already within you. Allow it to shine through. Allow your spirit to shine and show you the way to heal yourself. Not only physically, but mentally and emotionally too.

would like to share a bit about my family life and career… I am a Leo, so as we all know I could talk about myself until the cows come home E – definitely don’t shy away from a bit of the spotlight. I’ll start though by saying I am first and foremost an extremely proud mother of two amazing little boys. I know it definitely sounds cliché but I never really knew my true purpose until after giving birth to these guys. My whole world changed for the better and I am so grateful each and every day I wake up to these two little guys. To cut a long story short I realised that with my time being more than occupied, especially as a single mum of two during the day, the 9-5 rat race just wasn’t an option for me. I started my search for a home business opportunity and began putting that vibe out to

the universe. I then came across a job classified for this business and had an interview, and well the rest is history. I needed something to utilise my skills as an aspiring entrepreneur, whilst being limited on time due to motherhood. My eldest son is just over two, so I’m definitely busy without adding anything else to the daily routine. As you can imagine though, we still need that sense of achievement for ourselves. Let’s face it, it’s expected that we keep the house clean, the kids alive by frequent feeding and healthy meals and constant entertainment otherwise things easily get broken by boredom. So, my decision was simple – a business that relied solely on my own performance and in the time I had ‘spare’ with no one telling me to reach a certain quota in a set time-frame and being on my case constantly. e are conditioned to believe that using the mind equals success and following our heart will lead to a life of struggle. I disagree with this. Our minds are very important but we need to follow our heart just as much as we need to use our mind. Our mind is amazing at learning and storing information – ready for use when we need it but it also holds emotional patterns that dictate how we feel about ourselves and others. Many books have been written on the psychology of the mind but we have another very powerful aid to help us achieve true happiness, health and vitality, and it is the answer for living your dream life and achieving all that you desire… our heart. If we truly live from our heart space, then fear gets taken away. How wonderful would it be to wake up every morning living your dreams and excited

to jump out of bed and begin your day? The key is to follow our hearts and use our minds instead of the other way around. Most of us live in the mind where fear is fed and created. Have you ever noticed when someone compliments you, you either don’t know how to respond or choose not to believe them. But when someone else tells you a negative, you believe what they say. It’s like the brain can’t get enough of the negative. Ten people might say how amazing you are and one might say something terrible. So you carry the one negative comment home with you and then play their words over and over and add salt to the wounds by telling yourself, “they were right I am stupid and hopeless”. I’m sure you understand what I am saying. The mind plays over the words and we believe other people’s negative judgments and opinions. We have just handed over

our power and our choices to another person’s negativity. Only when we wake up and decide to take our power back and believe in ourselves, do we start to truly understand our true potential. loved to sing as a child, bold and fearless, singing my heart out without a care in the world. My sisters and I would play ‘Young Talent Time’ with my parents as the audience. We’d laugh and clap and it was joyous. But my open innocent confidence was crushed at 10 years old when I was rejected for the school choir, and told I didn’t have a voice. “I can’t sing” was the message I received. This silenced my singing voice for years. At 21, I went to live in a yoga ashram and through meditation I recalled this repressed memory and my fear trapped around that childhood trauma. I began to enjoy the daily chanting/singing of ancient mantras and my heart was filled with joy at this. I found the ancient tonal language of Sanskrit deeply moving and profoundly balancing. Sanskrit, meaning ‘perfected’ is one of the oldest, if not the oldest, of human languages; the oldest Vedic form dates back to the 2nd millennium BCE.

Sitting with my harmonium and singing these ancient words of wisdom daily, brought me much peace. So Hum, I am that I am, and Gate Gate, Para Gate (pronounced gar tai) from the beautiful Buddhist Heart Sutra. Being universal truths, these words take one on a deep, inner journey of ‘connection to being’ beyond any religious belief or dogma. Life has a way of throwing us challenges which I prefer to see now as opportunities to peel back the layers of false belief that crush our freedom of being. At these times, I am always called back to music as a way to support this unveiling of the true self. Beyond the intellect, music allows us to open the heart and get in touch with the feeling body, an aspect of ourselves often denied. The freedom of voice while singing becomes a tonal massage for the soul. Now as I prepare to head to our 8th European music and workshop tour

with my husband, brilliant musician Terry Oldfield, I feel such gratitude to be able to share this love with others in the name of peace. Terry and I are launching our 7th album together called ‘Temple Moon’. We encourage the audience participation in many of our songs and Terry’s soaring flute magic seems to unlock the deeper recesses of the heart for healing. It is personal, it is remembering, it is connecting to our inner knowing. As the human aspect grows and starts to believe it is flawed, we learn to hide, we conform, we diminish aspects of self and we forget. Some people have remarkable early family lives rich with love, support and affection, whereas others have experiences where people who are supposed to love them have done horrendous things to them. You can see how two people will have a different approach to self-love. So when life gets messy and we are told to love ourselves more? The question arises, what does that mean to me? How do I achieve that? And where do I begin? Massages, days at a spa, facials, or time out are not real lasting self-love, they are self-care and self-nourishing actions we take while searching for relaxation, balance and rejuvenation, (which is a tiny aspect of the self-love ‘revolution’). What if this self-love ‘revolution’ is actually, ‘the soul connection evolution’, a time in our human growth where we HAVE to bring acceptance for self by listening to the soul, to create a global shift for vibrational change? For me, after years of learning, educating and working with clients, selflove is a call of action to remember the


sovereignty of our soul, the knowing of the true inner being of wonder, creation and power that patiently lies dormant beneath all the layers of humanness. It is more than loving the physicality of you, it is truly about the remembering of the purpose your soul is here for, the ownership of that, then the ability to live it. Once you totally understand that, you realise there is no way anyone can compete with you, at being you. There is no one alive who is you-er than you!” – Dr Seuss I have recognised 8 fundamental elements in people who own selflove, there is an air or aura of magic

that emanates confidence, charisma, magnetism, an energy that calls you towards their sphere of life and their words. There is a mesmerising quality when a person resides in that state of being. Self-awareness, wisdom, selfresponsibility, trust, self-nurture, self-belief, self-value, self-respect are fundamental elements which contribute to a whole self-love knowing, being and evolution of soul. How we treat our self, how we want to be treated, is mastered when these eight elements are combined, working together to offer a destination of self-love or sovereignty. This is how the collective consciousness shifts. Each person being the expression of self-love and bringing that to daily life, does indeed effect the world around us. When each of us arrived on planet earth, we already own the knowing of our eternal and infinite spark of divinity, the soul, which I feel holds the knowing of love absolute. he biology of human reproduction is a miracle. That the simple act of making love can begin the spark of conception and gestate inside a woman’s body to become another human being is a revelation. This miracle requires a downward movement of energy and a physical and energetic release of orgasm for the wonder to complete itself. All of life exists only due to this powerful reproductive force within each living thing – from the single micro-organism to the most complex of animals, including we as human beings. Yet it is we as humans that have been given the gift of consciousness, the cognitive ability to think and act beyond animal responses. We think that sex begins in the genitals but in actual fact, it begins in the brain, in the pituitary and the pineal gland. Hormones are released and energy travels to the genitals and leaves the body in the downward release of orgasm. This is called the Reproductive

Phase of Sex. It is an accepted fact that this is all there is to sex, but in this picture, we are only living one half of our potential. Human sexuality has the capacity to transcend beyond the reproductive function of sex to higher states. Traditionally in Tantric practice and yoga, there are techniques to cultivate this. However, a simple change in how you make love will do the trick, without needing to engage such techniques. The Spiritual or Generative Phase of Sex Instead of the build-up energy of orgasm being released out of the body, the energy can be contained and regenerated within the body. This is called the Generative Phase in Sex. The downward force of orgasm and ejaculation is usually reached through tension. Whereas the generative force, the containment of the energy, is accessed through relaxation. This is why this is also called the Spiritual Phase of Sex, because this is

what creates transformation within the person. This containment is not created by suppression of the sex energy, but through the simple yet powerful act of awareness. Thus, the energy instead expands through the body, creating an environment during lovemaking that allows it to be reabsorbed, bathing the entire body, the genitals, the endocrine system, the brain, every cell, with the release of soothing chemicals (hormones) that actually regenerate both partners. nfortunately for so many of us it’s been through the conditioning of this life, that one of the most important aspects seems to have faded way out into the background – an illusion was created of separation. If you had asked me in my early 20s if I loved myself, I probably would have shrugged it off with laughter and some sarcastic remark (loving yourself meaning to be up yourself – right?)… or if you really saw into me and I knew it on a soul level – a gateway would have opened and I would have either avoided you altogether or on a very rare chance have cried, hoping that no one else saw me or that you wouldn’t tell anyone… as that was a perception of weakness and insecurity. This was because the complete opposite was true, there was deepseated hatred. I had struggled with being in my body in this lifetime, having been through many forms of abuse, I was a pretty hard one to crack, my

coping mechanisms were fierce (so I thought) and pain threshold crazy high. Yet I had a loving heart and knew that it was powerful, I wanted to help others… I had the capacity to love – that was easy, but to be loved in return oh my gosh, “love myself”… what even was that?! I still remember the day a friend made me look into the mirror and made me say “I am beautiful”. It took many goes, at first I struggled to even look into my own eyes, loads of resistance and a heap of tears but with his loving support and encouragement of kind words, I reached a space of being able to get the words out. That is a gift that will always shine on for me, his intentions were very well respected and received and it opened something within me, but to be honest, it just wasn’t enough. ‘brokenness’ coming back to wholeness, as well as going back to the womb space to heal and plenty of belief and feeling work (core, genetic, soul and history levels) I was able to feel something that will now stay with me for all of life. It is these processes which helped my body and mind to heal, to love myself and create situations which reflect that, but what is also really important is that I can actually feel the love from others now too. when times are challenging

hen I imagine what ‘Spirited Living’ looks like, it brings up images of self-love, living with joy and living spiritual concepts, in day-to-day home life. For many of us, we are living in a time of emotional turmoil. If not right now, from time to time you will have emotional stress to face within yourself and others. Holding a space of ‘Spirited Living’ in times of emotional stress is, in my point of view, a positive life-changing breakthrough for many emotionally sensitive people and their families. I found ‘Spirited Living’ easy when life flowed well, a gift and privilege teaching it to others, but if I wasn’t teaching it or life was not flowing, I found dealing with the emotions in myself and others around me awkward and holding this space difficult. Things like staying in my own business, not being influenced by the emotional stress of others and not thinking and believing stressful concluding thoughts – were a challenge! Believing that others in my home

can work their stuff out without me, knowing I am not emotionally responsible for their happiness, speaking up about what I am authentically feeling and confronting uncomfortable situations, all still takes conscious practice in my day-to-day home life. Practising daily ‘Spirited Living’ in the home will build your emotional fitness. It is a great feeling of accomplishment for yourself and all the people in your home when you are willing to be this space with each other in the challenging times. So much positive growth happens, and individual creativity begins to organically fruit. I have taught self-awareness for over two decades and live it as much as I can. Within this time, I have helped tens of thousands of people hold a ‘Spirited Living’ space in trying times. Each one was a case-by-case situation. They became aware of the pattern and program they were evolving, having an understanding of why the situation was showing up and what action to take at that moment for

that particular situation. And giving them lots of ideas on how to do this from their own awareness. The tough times are things like, relationship issues, breakups, birth, family dramas, deaths, social conflicts, health shocks, financial blows, etc. Other difficult times can be when we begin to transition into things like, living a creative life, being true to your heart, running a profitable business, communicating your truth or changing a limiting outdated belief to one that is abundant. Holding a ‘spirited living’ space in these examples can be quickly squashed by the entity of ‘doubt’ if we do not stay self-aware and maintain an emotional fitness. ‘Being spirited’ in the challenging times on a day-to-day basis in your home will create an internal harmony. And a feeling of emotional confidence and strength. This allows your own wisdom to come through, to discern and support your life path, and the life path of others.

zone (O3) is simply a high powered form of oxygen comprised of three atoms instead of two. Ozone Therapy is a form of complementary medicine which is probably one of the most miraculous healing therapies available on our planet at this time. Ozone Therapies are safe and effective treatment protocols for many conditions and diseases, including: obesity, diabetes, heart disease, psoriasis, candida, common cold, viruses, bacteria, HIV, chronic fatigue and in high concentrations may treat Lyme disease. Borrelia burgdorferi, the bacterium which causes Lyme disease is an anaerobic bacterium, meaning it cannot survive in an oxygenated environment and can be killed by high doses of oxygen. Because Bb and other tick borne microbes do not thrive well in oxygen, one of the methods they use to protect

themselves is to secrete toxins that cause coagulation in the small blood vessels. This allows them to set up home in an environment which weakens our oxygen driven immune systems and due to lower than normal oxygen levels, is the prime cause of fatigue. Ozone therapy addresses these issues in various ways. Ozone therapy introduces foreign Lyme antigens from the blood that increases kill rate into foreign sites such as the muscle and the fat, activating different immune sites. The immune stimulation is aided by inflammation from the blood now outside of the blood vessel, fats in the blood, and of course by the ozone. The human body is 2/3 water. Of that, 90% is lymph and 10% is blood. Cells function by burning sugar in oxygen to provide energy. The waste products are carbon dioxide and water. cell will function anaerobically and the waste products will be carbon monoxide and lactic acid. More oxygen is required to come in and oxidize these toxins, but if it is not available they build up. The blood will then carry a heavy load of sludge and toxins will be deposited in the fat and the lymph. Fatigue and disease now proliferate. Ozone is a powerful tool because it deals with this issue through oxygenation and oxidation. Ozone taken on a regular basis will over time safely clean all the fluid of the body. It will also furnish an oxygen-rich environment for all the cells in the body, providing high levels of immunity from most of our common diseases. I’m confused… why am I feeling like this?” “I can feel other people’s physical, emotional, mental and spiritual vibrations around me. I am so drained I need to sleep.” Does this sound like you? Empaths find themselves experiencing life through other people’s emotions. We can feel physical, mental and emotional vibrational energy of others. We are always finding other people’s moods oozing into our own experiences. At times it’s a real battle to gain a clear mind to move forward with our own lives, as we are at times oversensitive to other people’s feelings. Empathising is a very useful tool, especially in the healing arts. However we find ourselves taking on other people’s baggage. Empaths need to establish boundaries to identify what feelings are our own and what feelings are not.


I had to start establishing boundaries for myself as an empath. I was oversensitive to other people’s energy and finally had enough. It was draining my energy and effecting my health in a way that on some days I couldn’t get up out of bed. The following boundaries are for anyone to follow. You don’t have to be an empath to gain the benefits of these boundaries. The boundaries I established are as follows: 1. AWARENESS – Be aware of your environment at work and home. Give support to others, however don’t let their energy absorb you. Recognise their energy and focus on a positive resolution to either raise their vibration if negative and down, or support their vibration if positive and uplifting. 2. POSITIVITY – Anything that is positive, uplifting and raises your vibration absorb it. If it’s negative, recognise it and flush it down the

portaloo. Practise gratitude daily. 3. BALANCE – Start to balance sleep, nutrition, meditation and exercise. Don’t sleep more or less than eight hours a night and make a commitment to go for a 30-minute walk every day. Balance provides empaths with a positive neurological benefit. 4. DOWN TIME – make sure you are connecting with yourself and having down time. Put the mobile phone and laptop away. Commit to having at least two hours per day down time with no technology around you. OSTEOPATHY: Manual medicine to restore your body’s vitality, strength and mobility

HB: What inspired you to become an osteopath? Sophie: Having suffered chronic headaches as a teenager, as a last resort my mother took me to see an osteopath. Having no knowledge of what exactly an osteopath was, I remember being immediately amazed by the knowledge and the results the practitioner was able to achieve through hands-on treatment. Through observation and personal pain relief, I quickly formed a passion for this modality. Soon after, I left my hometown of Adelaide to study at RMIT University in Melbourne where I embarked on a journey that would change my life. It was there that I completed a five-year degree, combining a Bachelor of Health Science and a Bachelor of Applied Science (Osteopathy) to be able to gain the knowledge needed to put my passion into practice. HB: What do you love about your

work and what changes have you seen in clients? Sophie: I love the diversity in my job. The five-year training allows for the accumulation of a diverse range of skills, broadening the ability to heal and impact a patient’s life by allowing tailored treatments to suit individual needs. I feel extremely privileged to be part of a profession that rewards me and my patients every day. It’s no surprise that pain can have a profound negative affect on not only a patient’s body but also their life, affecting their relationships with loved ones, work and personally. I have seen significant change in patients stemming from treatment and the flow-on affects this has on their lives. Osteopaths are trained in understanding how the human body works as one unit, allowing a unique approach of care, to ultimately optimise the health of the patient as a whole. HB: What tips do you have for our

readers to look after and listen to their bodies? Sophie: Your body will always be your greatest teacher – so listen to it. Find an exercise you love to do; this will ensure your motivation remains high, as well as assist in the maintenance of a happy, healthy body and mind. My exercise of choice is yoga. However, being present in each moment of our lives and being aware, tuned in to all that is happening, can be just the beginning. Training our mind to let go of the constant chatter about reviewing the past and planning the future, can lead us to open up so much space. This space can become the way to enter into an ancient teaching called Dzogchen. Dzogchen teachings are about realising our essential nature, pure from the beginning. Once we have experienced this state, by being introduced to it by a master, our lives can become much more relaxed. We can let go of constant judgment and

embrace the fact that really, everything has the same taste and we don’t have to live life with constant ups and downs. It is like a small child who enters a fair ground, full of bright, sparkling lights, movement and noise. They experience all of this in a moment of wonder. Inspired, Sustainable Living HB: What inspired you to create BambooHill and what is your work background? Derrick: I have always been fascinated with bamboo. Apart from being the most magnificent of all renewable plant species, it is like Mother Nature has offered our species as humans, a natural fast growing fully renewable

species – bamboo – as a solution to forest degradation and to alleviate the mess we have made of this planet. Bamboo sequests carbon dioxide from the atmosphere at a rate of 40% of its total biomass. No other plant has these environmental properties. A well-managed plantation can yield up to 300 tonnes of biomass. business in today’s economic climate, there is a deep sense of satisfaction in developing the fundamentals of a Bamboo Agribusiness in Australia. Bamboo has long been recognised as ‘nature’s answer’ to the carbon dioxide dilemma. HB: When did you first start working with bamboo mulch and what made you start working with it? Derrick: The idea started in 2008 and from an actual work perspective, I committed to working with bamboo mulch in 2011. I ‘stumbled’ across the idea of using bamboo mulch as a garden product on the way towards developing more exciting products. HB: What are the benefits of your bamboo mulch and what is your point of difference? Derrick: Free from seeds, weeds and soils, it’s sourced from bamboo that has had no exposure to chemicals, synthetic fertiliser or pesticides. That means no introduced weeds and it’s good for your organic vegetables and gardens. Being high in silica, bamboo mulch can increase stress resistance, boost photosynthesis and chlorophyll content, improve drought resistance, salt tolerance and soil fertility and prevent lodging. It can also reduce insect pressure, frost damage and destructive disease while lowering irrigation rates,

neutralising heavy metal toxicity, countering the negative effects of excess sodium, increase root growth, boost yield and enhance crop quality. When you use woody materials such as sawdust, bark and woodchip onto the soil surface, micro-organisms, fungi and bacteria will try to compost the mulch. To do that, they need to draw nutrients out of the soil. This is called nitrogen drawdown and requires additional fertilisers to maintain healthy soil. Bamboo mulch has a low nitrogen drawdown, which reduces the need for additional fertilising. Another benefit is the marked increase in worm activity underneath bamboo mulch. With growing evidence linking the chemicals in our foods and environment to modern day diseases and illness, the organic home gardener is gaining popularity in our neighbourhoods. However modern life means families are more often than not, time challenged, making the normal upkeep of an organic garden time-consuming. Bamboo mulch minimises your time in the garden and maximises your enjoyment in your garden. HB: What tips do you have for using/ laying the mulch and what time of year is best? Derrick: My top tips are: weed your garden, apply a good fertiliser – we have

a new product coming out in the next few months, exclusive to BambooHill. Apply the mulch approximately 50mm and then water in well. The mulch will form a ‘crust’ which will remain permeable and provide a great weed barrier. Any time of the year is the right time to give your garden the best attention with a far superior product. HB: What is your latest news and what plans and projects do you have coming up over the next 12 months? Derrick: Our latest news with regards to our products is the Bunnings acceptance of our BAMBOOHILL mulch into their range of garden products in SEQ and NSW. From a business perspective, we have secured major funding from an overseas company and this will further enhance my focus on developing a viable Australian Bamboo Agribusiness. And in the future, the harvesting and processing technology has attracted funding to develop a Community Development Program in South East Asia using Bamboo as a renewable forestry resource to alleviate the destruction caused by the ‘clear-felling’ of native forests. ver the last twenty years in business performing garden maintenance activities, there has always been a special emphasis to adhering to sustainable gardening practices, but there were many challenges along the way. When I graduated with my Diploma of Horticulture back in the late 90s, it became necessary to obtain certain government licences to be able to prepare and distribute chemicals like herbicides for the landscape industry. I realised very early in the piece, that being a party to applying chemicals for controlling pests, diseases and weeds did not resonate with my soul and as a result, I started to doubt my new chosen career path. The turning point for me I believe, was realising the knock-on effect from over-use of horticultural chemicals on the innocent non-target organisms. This had a profound effect on my thinking regarding what I was trying to achieve

for the client, verses what was right for the environment, my soul, my spirit, and the holistic image I had envisioned for myself. As I progressed through the seasons that followed, I became more in tune with nature and realised that half of the pests and diseases are born from imbalances in the soil of some kind, but it was the realisation that the microbial activity in the soil was far more important than I ever thought possible at the time. This, and the profound understanding that all things are seemingly connected in nature, spurred a sense of grand appreciation for the environment we live in. This led to my awareness of true sustainable gardening practices and hence my calling to promote and teach and write about holistic gardening today which ignites an enormous passion and fuels my spirit within. ‘Profound Horticultural’, our ongoing business concern, loves to

advise our clients of the long-term benefits and solutions from practising sustainable gardening strategies such as: incorporating organic matter into the soil, adding compost or composted manures, using kelp and fish brews and keeping the right amount of moisture in the soil profile to keep the lot in balance and using the correct mulch that lets moisture seep through. Shutting my mind so my




nyone who knows me, knows I’m not lacking in oodles of spirit! I move a mile a minute and my world is full-on and exciting and full of beautiful people… and never once do I take any of it for granted. But every now and again, I catch myself caught up in the whirlwind and then I know it’s time to stop and make sure I’m spiritually and emotionally in touch with my spirit and that it’s not being contaminated with toxic surroundings, situations, thoughts or people. I practise what I preach! I nurture my spirit every day in some way and because I do, I then feel equipped to nurture the people around me. Trust me on this… I pick those people VERY carefully. Here’s how I detoxify my spirit: 1. Connect with animals and nature Every day I go for a walk or run and I literally have to force myself to stop and ‘smell the roses’. Did you know that if you look hard enough inside every

Decontaminate my space Every now and again ask yourself… who are the spirits hanging around me? I know it’s a bit of a ‘buzzword’ at the moment, but if you haven’t heard of gas lighting PLEASE educate yourself! Gas lighters are manipulators that make you doubt yourself and lose your healthy sense of identity and self-worth. Chances are you have at least one of these people in your life right now… CUT THEM LOOSE! I’m serious. 3. Shut off social media Guilty as charged. I’m on social media a lot – usually on Instagram letting my mind go wild with ideas, but even I recognise the importance of shutting off for a detox. And the rest of my family have to do it too. As I manifest the UFC wrestler inside me

and wrangle the electronic devices from the hands of my girls, I preach the importance of being in the moment without distractions. I shut my mind so my spirit can thrive. 4. Pray Yes pray. Every single day I give it all over and I unload to a higher power. I am a big believer in taking nothing for granted. I am always grateful for the beauty in my life. 5. Love myself I know I’m not perfect – far from it – and I’ve made mistakes in my life and trusted people I probably shouldn’t have. But I own it all. I am what I am and I love it all. We are all a combination of spirit, soul and flesh. And we are all here to be the best version of ourselves. Nurture and feed your ‘spirit’ and protect it from anything toxic. Shine on. x

ave you ever wondered what the essence of colour means to your lips? If so you’re not alone; it’s an ancient tradition dating back centuries. Cleopatra began adorning her lips with red colours made from beetles. Mayans used different earth clays to beautify their faces and lips whilst the Chinese started applying lip colour some 5000 years ago, it was a thick paste-like substance and was more of a lip balm consistency, it was sticky and applied with a brush. Both males and females decorated their faces with colours and paints. It’s used to express ourselves in different cultures and is associated with traditions and celebrations. In earlier times, lipstick colours were produced using seaweed, beetles, ants and the dyes of plants and vegetables and animal products. Here’s how you can Feng Shui your lips to suit your age. In your 20s you can wear a lighter red which shows you’re open to new

experiences but still not quiet sure of yourself, but by the time you reach your 30s and 40s you’re into a deeper red indicating your passion, fun and creativity. ven though they can smell alluring and divine, the synthetic fragrances found in perfumes and personal care products are a growing concern amongst scientists and consumer groups. Most adverse reactions to cosmetics and toiletries are caused by fragrance chemicals, which are known irritants and allergens. Many of us have encountered synthetic fragrances that cause us to sneeze or give us headaches, dizziness, violent coughing or even rashes and other skin irritations. But it’s not just the acute reactions that we should be concerned about. Thousands of tons of synthetic fragrances are produced each year but with very few legislative restrictions imposed. One study by the National Academy of Sciences determined that up to 95% of chemicals used to obtain synthetic fragrances were derived from petroleum. Some chemists suggest that synthetic fragrances have more in common with diesel fumes than natural scents because they are showing all the tell-tale

signs of persistent organic pollutants (POPs); they are volatile compounds, produced in enormous numbers, which bio-accumulate, do not readily break down in the environment, and are being found stored in the fat of animals – including that of humans. Studies have shown that the synthetic fragrance chemicals are being found increasingly in breast milk, with one comparison study measuring levels as having increased fivefold in the last ten years alone. Many fragrance chemicals have been shown to be capable of causing cancer, birth defects, infertility, and hormone disruption. Two common toxins found in synthetic fragrances are phthalates, which have been linked to birth defects and male infertility, and musk, which has been known to cause cancer in animals. The synthetic fragrances commonly used in personal care products are complex formulations containing as many as 200 ingredients, under the term ‘parfum’, preventing the consumer from identifying the chemical makeup

and determining whether these chemicals may be dangerous to our long-term health. Synthetic fragrances are used because they are much cheaper than pure essential oils. Natural fragrances are very time-consuming and labourintensive to produce and require large quantities of plants to obtain the oils. For example, it takes around 5000 kilograms of rose petals to produce just one kilogram of rose essential oil, which costs more than $30,000! Whereas the rose-like, floral smelling, yet synthetic, phenyl ethyl alcohol acetate costs just $5 per kilo! It’s not surprising that perfume and personal care manufacturers might choose the cheaper option. To protect yourself from hidden toxins disguised as ‘fragrance’ or ‘parfum’, always ask for full disclosure from your source for cosmetics and personal care products. pring is upon us, and at this time of year we start to feel excited about the warmer weather, the longer days, more sunshine, and the opportunity to get outside and enjoy this beautiful part of the world we live in. Many people also undertake a ‘Spring Clean’ at this time of year, detoxing the heavier foods we have enjoyed through the colder months with a juice cleanse, or cleaning out our wardrobes of all our coats and scarves to make way for bikinis and t-shirts. It’s the perfect time of year for a cleanse, and detoxification is just as important for our pets as it is for us. Why detox? Our bodies are dealing with a gamut of chemicals everyday, in our food, water, bedding, clothes, air, and lawns or parklands, as well as all the radiation we are exposed to these days in the form of computers, mobile phones and Wi-Fi. Our pets are even more at risk, because they also often get vaccinated every year, and are on flea and tick chemicals, and get wormed regularly, and receive heartworm preventatives (unless they are our patients!)… So they are regularly

receiving a very high input of chemicals that their bodies may not be adept at dealing with, particularly if they are also on processed foods, not receiving adequate exercise, or have other stressors interfering with their strength. Excessive build-up of toxins is one of the main causes of disease, and if we can promote detoxification whilst also reducing toxic input, we have a better chance of maintaining health and vitality. Same goes for our pets! Incorporating a regular detoxification practice into your pet’s wellness regime, will enable them to better deal with chemical overload which in turn improves their vitality, wellbeing and longevity, and reduces their risk of diseases like arthritis, allergies and cancer.

Regular water fasting can be practised – adult dogs can be fasted for 24 hours on water once a week, and most adult cats can skip one breakfast and one evening meal each week. 4. Ensure the water your pet drinks is from a pure source. 5. Exercise in the sunshine out in nature with your pet for at least 20 minutes every day. 6. Use appropriate supplementation to ensure nutritional balance, which in turn supports detoxification pathways.

Safe essential oils can also aid the detoxification process. How can you reduce toxic input for your pets? 1. Minimise vaccinations by working closely with an holistic vet to determine your pet’s actual vaccine needs based on their age, health status, lifestyle, location and previous vaccination history. 2. Choose chemicals wisely when it comes to flea, tick, heartworm and intestinal worm preventatives, using the least amount possible of the safest products when required. 3. Consider natural alternatives for common preventative medications. For example there is a homeopathic remedy available to aid tick prevention, and there are essential oil repellents available to manage parasites and biting insects. 4.
