ne of the things I noticed as all the amazing articles came through this month about the ‘parent- child connection’ was that we had left out the experience of being motherless, fatherless and childless. During April/May we receive lots of messages about Mother’s Day and often we forget about people who have never known their mother. It also can be an emotionally challenging time for people who have had a parent die at an early age or maybe you are reading this and you have just had your mother or father pass away. Our sincere heartfelt thoughts are with you and if you read through this edition, many of the people who are in it can also provide support for grief and loss and be a contribution to you. The parent-child connection is such a powerful one and we have some wonderful articles this month about nurturing this further. If we don’t experience it fully, we may then take our own personal, rich, soulful journey as adults to find the mother and father within ourselves and look within for what we
require; parenting our own childlike self, even if that takes some time and support to come to that realisation. Of course having a mum and dad is such a blessing too! On being childless, I know a little about this, and it doesn’t always make it any easier over the Mother’s Day period to feel a sense of, “I wonder what my life would have been like if I had given birth to a child and watch a being grow…” Although, I have always felt my focus and contribution has gone to places in the community and world where it is required… in many ways Holistic Bliss has been my baby, as well as our fur baby Bindy and two grown-up/adult step-sons. Take good care, take time for you and connect with others this month. We are delighted to have Talitha Talarek and Huxley her son share the cover this month and shine their lights, enjoy the story on pages 12-13. Bliss You Universe X

MOCHA CHOC DROP COOK I ES RECIPE NOURISH ME MUM
Ingredients: 1 cup (300g) mocha almond butter as per recipe 2 free-range eggs lightly whisked or 2 pre-prepared flax eggs 2 tbsp maple syrup 1½ tsp good quality vanilla extract 1¼ tsp baking soda Pinch of sea salt ½ cup Organic Times dark or milk choc drops Method: Pre-heat oven to 165°C /330°F. Line 2 baking trays with parchment paper and set aside. In a medium bowl work nut butter with a fork making it smooth and loose. Add eggs, maple syrup, vanilla, baking soda and sea salt. Combine. Fold through chocolate drops. Spoon tablespoon-sized cookies onto baking sheet. Bake for 8-10 minutes until golden on top and firm to the touch. Notes: Cookies will not change shape so be sure you are happy with the presentation prior to baking. They will firm up as they cool and are best served same day. Cookies will keep up to 3 days in the refrigerator.

MOCHA ALMOND BUTTER: 3 cups whole almonds 1 x 150g dark chocolate coffee beans Method: Pre-heat your oven to 200°C. Place almonds on a baking sheet and lightly toast in the pre-heated oven for 5 minutes. Set aside to cool completely. In the bowl of your food processor combine cooled almonds and half (75g) the dark chocolate coffee beans. Process for one minute, until a crumb forms. Scrape down the sides of your bowl and add remaining beans. Process until loose and smooth, scraping down the sides of your bowl as needed to fully combine. Time required will vary depending on the equipment you are using. Our food processor takes 5 minutes to achieve the desired smooth, glossy, yummy almond butter texture we love. You will retain a slight coffee bean crunch that makes this nut butter extra special. Notes: Store in an airtight container, refrigerate for up to a month. www.nourishmemum.com

My own experience

y health journey began quite young, as I was lucky enough to have parents who tried to minimise the amount of sugar we were consuming. It wasn’t until I completed courses in Health Science, Western Herbal Medicine and Homeopathy that I understood just how important nutrition is and how food can play a major role in how we feel both emotionally and physically. Through clinical practice over the past six years, I also understood the importance of maintaining a healthy diet, the effects certain foods have on wellbeing and how much food has changed over the years. And as such, more and more people are becoming gluten and dairy intolerant. It doesn’t only come down to the foods we eat but also everything else we put into our bodies that has either a negative or positive impact. This further
includes looking at genes and how they have an impact on how we react to food. This need to having clean, wholesome and organic food increased when I had my child (now five years of age). Genetically he received a dairy intolerance, which ended up being my biggest inspiration. As I breast fed until he was 13 month old, I didn’t recognise this intolerance until I went on the hunt for an organic formula for him to have at night before bed. Up until this point he was 100% fed only organic food and no allergic type foods, as I wanted to wait, knowing the digestive system does not fully develop until much later on. On my hunt for an organic, soy-free, gluten-free, dairy-free and wholesome formula to feed my child, and make sure he was getting the nutrients he needed for growth and development, (such as calcium and Vitamin D), I
discovered there wasn’t any on the market. Bringing in all my knowledge about nutrition, herbal medicine and through listening to the concerns of parents coming through clinic, I created my own and this is how ‘Little Munchkins Toddler Super Drink’ was born. The great part about what has developed since the product was created, is that it has served my son on many other levels. aving a parasite inside you isn’t a very pleasant thought, but it’s a far more common occurrence than you’d think. In fact, many people have parasites thriving inside them without showing any symptoms at all. On the other hand, some people can feel constantly unwell until the parasite is diagnosed and treated. What are parasites? Essentially, a parasite is any living organism that feeds off another organism. When it comes to the human digestive system, intestinal parasites usually feed off the food we eat and cause a wide variety of ailments. Broadly speaking, there are two types of parasites that commonly infect our gut – worms (such as tapeworms, pinworms and roundworms), and single-cell organisms (like blastocystis and giardia). How do we get infected? Parasites usually enter our body through contaminated food and water. Undercooked meat is a common culprit, as is contaminated drinking water when travelling in underdeveloped countries. Parasite eggs are microscopic and can
be passed onto anything you touch – the toilet flusher, the doorknob, your phone, or anyone you touch. This is why good bathroom hygiene and handwashing practices are so important. Why do they pose a problem? One reason our digestive tract is highly acidic is to protect against harmful pathogens. But when parasites invade our intestines, even this highly acidic environment cannot protect our body. The natural response is for our body to defend itself through our immune system, and as a result the gut can become inflamed. Intestinal parasites can also prevent the food we eat from being properly absorbed by the body and release toxins into the bloodstream and lymphatic system. Parasite warning signs Whilst parasites can create a multitude of symptoms, there are a few common warning signs to keep an eye out for: • Has the frequency or appearance of your bowel movements changed for a sustained period? • Are you experiencing chronic
exhaustion that isn’t resolved by restful sleep? • Have you had unexplained and sudden weight loss of at least 5kg over two months? • Have you had persistent itching around the anus for at least two weeks? • Do you have regular cramping and abdominal pain? If you answered YES to any of these questions, you may be showing signs of a parasite. What should I do if I think I have parasites? See your GP or Naturopath if you think you have an infestation to organise an appropriate assessment. his is a simple, quick and nourishing gluten-free, nutfree lunch or dinner option. The organic turmeric in the dressing has a number of health benefits such as an anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, for liver problems and digestive issues to name just a few. Long term inflammation is linked to many lifestyle diseases. Turmeric has been used for thousands of years in Ayurveda medicine as it contains curcumin, and many other minerals such as manganese, iron, copper and potassium. Including turmeric in your diet adds colour and flavour. Turmeric gives food a beautiful rich yellow colour and is one of the main spices used in curries. Turmeric has a peppery, warm, and slightly bitter flavour. It is best to consume turmeric with black pepper and fat, as they both help with the absorption of the compound curcumin.
Ingredients: SALAD 4 cups rocket leaves Leftover roasted sweet potato, diced ½ cup leftover tandoori spiced roasted cauliflower RISSOLES 250g beef or lamb mince Changing Habits Seaweed Salt to taste ½ tsp pepper 2 tsp thyme leaves 2-3 cloves garlic, crushed 2 tsp oregano leaves ½ tbsp Changing Habits Beef Broth Changing Habits Coconut Oil for cooking DRESSING Juice of half a lemon ¾ cup cold-pressed olive oil (light in flavour) ¼ cup raw apple cider vinegar Changing Habits Seaweed Salt and cracked pepper to taste 1 clove garlic, crushed 1 tsp Changing Habits Turmeric Powder
Method: 1. Add all the rissole ingredients into a small mixing bowl and use your hand to mix all the ingredients together evenly. 2. Roll the mince into 2 rissoles. 3. Heat a frying pan on medium heat and add coconut oil to the pan. 4. Place the rissoles in the pan and cook on both sides until golden brown and cooked through. 5. Place the rocket leaves onto 2 plates and top with leftover (warm) sweet potato and tandoori roasted cauliflower. 6. Place the rissoles in the middle of the salad. 7. Add all the dressing ingredients to a glass jar and close the lid. Shake the dressing together and pour a little over the top of the salad. 8. Serve immediately. 9. Store the dressing in the fridge. alitha Talarek is like a multifaceted diamond; she has a gentleness of spirit that you just connect with straight away and there is a profound courage and strength her eyes convey. She also has a childlike innocence and a High Priestess knowing, which no doubt assists her healing work with children and parents. From an early age, Talitha was aware
o w a Q of her desire to play a part in raising the consciousness on the planet. She used to dream of helping children in Africa recover from illness and kept a burning desire to help the next generation (even though she worked in the fields of accounting and business after leaving school). Life took a few detours before Talitha actually stepped onto the ‘healer’s path’. Talitha discovered a life-changing modality called ThetaHealing (founded
by Vianna Stibal) and took her first basic class in 2007. ThetaHealing assists you to access a theta brain wave and connect with the ‘creator’ or creative force. This doesn’t just facilitate healing, it also can enhance creativity and the ability to actualise abundance. Talitha became interested in this modality as a way of helping other people but she didn’t realise it would involve her healing herself. “Some big stuff shifted in me, I’d had

costochondritis for months and was having multiple asthma attacks each day brought on by stress and both of those things ceased in a three-day class. I knew this work held the keys to creating great change, I could feel the divine truth in it,” she said. In 2009, Talitha’s life was at an alltime low. She was just 46 kilos, scared of her own shadow; living in survival mode and often fearing for her own life. At the time, the only real relief or escape for her was through alcohol and drugs and the tranquillity she felt with the trees on her property was what helped her to stay alive. Her life had hit rock bottom and so the only way was up. Somehow, she found the courage to leave a violent and abusive relationship which left her emotionally and financially bankrupt and it took time to build back her self-worth and sense of self. Not only was she dealing with the relationship break-up, but also the death of her stepmother who had died from melanoma, a woman Talitha described as selfless and who always believed in her. The intense pain and ‘letting go’ was a lot to face and at the same time, became a great catalyst for change. “It was her passing which triggered something in me to clear my fears. To step up. And my faith increased rapidly,” she said. After attending ThetaHealing workshops, Talitha cleared her unconscious patterns which had kept her in a cycle of being a powerless victim in relationships. She decided to follow the ‘work of her heart’, becoming a ThetaHealing teacher in 2010. She found the confidence to carve out a new career and life for herself while she continued her training and also opened a ThetaHealing Centre in Queensland. “I love doing one-on-one sessions, teaching and running psychic workshops for kids. You can create your reality at a more rapid speed with this work,” she said. The woman Talitha is today and the woman she was back in 2009 are almost two different people. Now her life is about choosing what works for her and sharing her life with loving partner of six years Dan, their four-year-old son Huxley and her three step-children. It was wonderful to hear the healing work has also created miracles in her family. In fact, there was an amazing

healing connection right from the start when Huxley, her baby boy was conceived. “I wasn’t sure if it was physically possible for me to have a baby, so when it was confirmed I was pregnant with Huxley it was such a massive gift. I knew it was meant to be,” she shared. However, initial tests showed there was a high risk for Edward and Down’s Syndromes and after going through the process of CVS, results came back clear for the latter syndromes but showed baby Huxley had Trisomy 14 Mosaicism. Talitha’s research found only a hundred cases of Trisomy 14 Mosaicism since 1970. In most cases the baby dies or if they survive then they are severely deformed. But terminating the pregnancy was not an option for Talitha. She said she ‘manifested open-minded doctors’ and the healing had already started based on her early ‘knowing’. Talitha and baby Huxley had ThetaHealing sessions with Vianna Stibal during the pregnancy which was such a gift. And as you can imagine, Talitha and Dan were thrilled to welcome their healthy, miracle baby into the world on time. Huxley and his placenta were tested and it was a relief to hear there were no signs of Trisomy 14 found anywhere. Talitha says as a mum and in life, you are a co-creator of your reality. Life doesn’t just happen to you. I asked Talitha what being a mum means to her. She replied, “Everything! You are a team right from the beginning, and it’s an incredible feeling and an incredible love and I can’t even explain it, you just have to experience it. It shifts and changes your world in every way. “I’ve learnt so much from my son. He is already showing me new intuitive
insights before I have even taught them in my classes,” she shared. So what does Talitha want to say to our youth of today? “Tune in and trust your intuition and know discernment so you are not taking on the projections of other people. Because it’s the projections from other people that can be damaging and steer you off your true path.” She said it’s about allowing kids to evolve in the way they came here to do. Talitha mentioned she often works with youth and the homeless on a voluntary basis as a way of giving back. “There’s too much self-harm and suicide and too many kids on the street. And I know they don’t always have a loving environment and sometimes that’s part of their journey; the way their soul is choosing to learn their virtues.” She said if only they trusted there is a higher power and creator to connect to (it’s the energy moving through everything). Then they would know it’s okay for them to be themselves and have self-love, so they don’t feel the pressure to try to ‘fit in’. But Talitha also feels society is becoming more open and change is occurring. She said she also sees so many adults coming through her centre who want to recover their gifts that they shut off in childhood. It’s those intuitive, unique abilities along with love and kindness that are going to contribute most to changing the planet. Talitha has trained a lot of nurses and talked to doctors. And something that she is also passionate about is the world of science working alongside the alternative world. She believes this healing work should be available to everyone worldwide. Talitha said instead of creating change by going through an arduous painful situation, we can learn by connecting more to the creator/source and can create more of what we would like. She is more aware of the things she thinks and says because we can manifest things at such a fast rate. here is nothing more sacred than the connection of a parent and child. But it is not always natural or easy for parents. Sometimes it depends on the age of the child, as some parents connect with brand new babies and some connect with children when they are at school; for others, it’s not until the child is a mini adult or teenager. The key is no matter how you feel, it is OK and don’t be hard on yourself if there is no connection straight away as it is a new skill to learn. Can you recall holding your brandnew baby and wondering how you were to care for this innocent little person? It takes time to learn and connect with each other. You learn to discern what cry means what – I am hungry, I have pain, I need a cuddle! Eventually it becomes second nature. The way you connect may be different from your partner or the grandparents and that is OK too. Every stage of the child’s growth is a learning lesson in how to relate to the child and how the child relates to you. The child learns just as you learn… who is teaching who?
WHEN WILL YOU SAY
During my sessions, I find the most enquiries I get are concerned with, “How do I connect with my teenager?” My reply is often, “Just like you do with a small child.” It’s the same as they need love, acceptance and support, just like a young child but it is more in the emotional and mental care. Yes, they can react to you aggressively, verbally and emotionally and you may scratch your head saying, “What did I do wrong for them to yell at me?” Now put yourself in their shoes and life is challenging for them with “I am not a child and I am not an adult”, “I have crazy hormones happening” and “my body is doing weird things” and there is so much social pressure. They are ‘screaming’ for your love and support which sometimes is doing and saying nothing but letting them know there is always love in your heart for them. Connection for any child-parent relationship is how we listen, how we react, how we speak and how we show affection. Connection is happening all the time whether at the dinner table, sleeping, watching TV, driving them to school or even being in the same house

Being a mother has offered me the most rewarding, heart-opening and wondrous moments in my life, as well as the most challenging, confronting and painful. I guess this is why many sages say that parenting is one of the most profound spiritual practices of them all. It requires all of us, and then some more, as we partner this little person through their own challenges, their fears, anxieties and tantrums. Growing up is no small feat. From a place of pure innocence, our kids must navigate the often stormy seas of childhood, the tsunamis of adolescence and somehow individuate into wellrounded, dependent, confident young adults in their own right. ne of the definitions of mindfulness is “awareness of present reality with acceptance”. In simple terms we could say that mindfulness is the art of being in the here-and-now, and being able to experience every emotion (good or bad) without “reacting” to it impulsively. Mindfulness has been described as a practice and skill that is fundamental to parenting in general. Fostering and using mindful parenting is one of the avenues to improve parent-child relationships. A 2009 study concluded that parents who continually aim to be “present” with their growing children, will have a better connection between them, and will be less inclined to use force, authority or other egotistical means in their parenting practices. You would think that parents are there to “meet their children’s needs” and “to assist them with becoming independent”. Often though, when I look at parents and their actions and
attitudes towards their kids, it seems that the children are there to meet the parents’ needs, and to bow to the parents’ authority. As I explained in previous articles, mindfulness strongly suggests we take personal responsibility for how we feel, and not use our emotions as impulsedrivers for our actions. For instance, if a child does something that has the parent experience anger, the mindful approach would be to be fully present with that feeling, and to NOT act upon it there and then. WE caused the emotion in ourselves; no-one else did. When our emotions dictate our actions, we often later on – when it is too late – regret what we said or did. It would be more mindful to feel the emotion, wait until it softens or disappears (as it always does, at some stage), and to then respond to the situation that was not to the parent’s liking. There is obviously nothing wrong with setting boundaries and guidelines
when it comes to our kids. The question is how we enforce them; by force, authority and reaction (“you must do as I say, or else”), or by a more wholesome approach to responding (“this is what I would like, here are the reasons why”). My opinion, from a parent-child connection point of view, is that a forceful, authoritarian parenting style will lead to a loss of connection between parent and child. The child may be submissive or obedient, but will feel less and less connected to the parent. A more mindful, responsive approach to parenting will strengthen the bond between parent and child, and will often lead to cooperation and understanding. This in turn makes the parenting journey an easier one. There will be less and less need to enforce rules and have emotional outbursts in order to get our children to follow our rules and guidelines. www.simplifyinglife.com.au

am not one to use goddess clichés, but I have to say that at 30 years of age, while birthing my second child at home, I felt the full girth of the goddess, nature herself, move through me like an unstoppable force. It was sensual, a dance, alive, embodied, pure, raw, unbridled and surrendered. And I was never – the – same – again. I think women, men and society in general underestimate the powerful effect that pregnancy, birthing and mothering has on a woman. You are not the same woman after this incredible transition – simple as that. When a woman has touched the deep waters of birthing, and opened to that primal sensate experience, her sensitivity to her body and to life increases. She cannot return from that event unchanged, no matter what the outcome. Birthing, in its most natural sense, without intervention, is lovemaking – deep, sensual, sexy and alive.
Even if a woman, sadly, loses a child or has to make the difficult decision to terminate a pregnancy, she is never the same. Because at these times, she can do nothing but experience life through her body, not her mind. If she allows it, these experiences drop her down, deeper; lowers her into the underbelly of life – into the physical and metaphorical womb of her being, in a way that she may never have experienced before. I believe a woman’s monthly bleed can do the same. Over the years, the body’s process of shedding continually draws her into this underbelly, month after month. And the effect can be similar, if she listens. That’s why to return to the bedroom and go on automatic to fast friction style, mechanical lovemaking, can feel meaningless and almost brutal to a woman once this sensitivity has been awakened. She starts to turn away as

a natural consequence – it is not even conscious. Through the pure thrust of the physical processes their body endures, women change. And I think this is where it is hard for a man, because things are not that different for him in this sense. But if he can listen to her, to slow to the deep rhythms that move her body, he will be infinitely rewarded. So the call is for us as women, to follow and trust the inherent sensitivity and wisdom within and the pleasure that arises from that and to invite man into this arena of sensitive awareness if we want to revolutionise our relationships to one that invites love, truth and mutual fulfilment. ooking at our sad and terrible history, we come across the Catholic based Spanish Inquisition. God only knows how many innocents died - with the emphasis on women and girls – but it lasted far longer than is generally realised, beginning in the 12th century with the last execution in the 19th century. However, my point is this. The majority of those executions were based in rounding up the village women and looking for the local witches. Why? The prime movers of religious control knew that intelligence follows the feminine principle. Intelligence, not the intellect. From my metaphysical investigations and as a pure generalisation, men are more intellectual than women, while women are considerably more intelligent than men. It was not the so-called witches the Inquisition were seeking to destroy. That terrible and merciless hierarchy
knew perfectly well that intelligence follows the feminine principle. Those manipulators of our history were murdering the wise women of the villages, young and older, thus denying any chance of feminine dominance appearing. And this savage and inhuman manipulation continued in the name of God for around 700 years! What a breathtaking crime against the feminine principle… and humanity. We are now in a time of major change. The feminine principle is rising and nothing can or will stop it. Although Mother’s Day is logically the day we celebrate our mothers, it is also the day that the whole feminine principle is recognised and thus recharged. Inadvertently, we have never allowed the feminine principle to lose too much of its precious energy. Now, the savage old male energy dominance is crying out in its death
throes, not even aware of its imminent demise. I find it fascinating that it is actually old male dominance energy that is destroying the old male dominance energy. How bizarre… and perfect! So be aware, all those women and men of the feminine principle, we do not have to fight for our survival. We are on the rise… and nothing can prevent the inevitable. We are the people who are easily able to embrace the feminine principle of love. With all your energy, love those who have persecuted you. Without going into any explanations, it is a path we all long ago chose. A foolish path, but a choice. The way out, the way forward, is the opposite from the old energy of opposition. We went holistic with BABY

had a vision of our second birth being very different from the birth of our first child. Not only did I want to have a strong connection, I needed this pregnancy and birth to be holistic, calm, and happy… every mother’s dream! The experience with my first child was being stressed and worried, with a ‘Bootcamp fitness’ and go go go way of operating. I didn’t take time to connect with my baby due to my busy lifestyle. I knew if I wanted a better outcome this time, it was me who had to make changes. I needed to slow down, so I turned to yoga. I love the calm, relaxed and balanced way yoga makes you feel after a session. How could this not benefit me and bub’s relationship? I wanted to learn more, so I did my yoga course and it changed my life! When I started yoga, I didn’t know I was pregnant, but with the help of the teachers, I continued and completed it, and learned not just about the poses, but a whole new way of life. Yoga poses can be adapted for each individual, even through my high risk pregnancy. This yoga life practice helped me to slow down, connect with my baby, and improve my health and wellbeing. During my pregnancy, I became less reactive to situations, I had reduced back ache and body discomfort, with improved breathing, flexibility and circulation. I was able to interact with others and felt supported throughout my journey with yoga. I became the mother I always wanted to be.
Combining yoga and meditation also helped prepare us for labour and birth. I repeatedly listened to Deva Prema’s Moola Mantra. And started with the physical poses of slow flow Vinyasa yoga, combined with supported poses with the bolster, which helped me feel nurtured. I used Ujjayi breath, and my hands on my heart and belly to calm down, and connect with my baby. Every time he would move and kick, I would smile with joy. I then finished with a meditation. I imagined breathing in positive energy and clearing away the negative energy. I closed any gaps/holes in my aura, and it became thick and expanded. Picturing the bright colours of the chakras of my body, I would then imagine my ideal labour and birth, seeing myself being able to cope emotionally and spiritually. In the end, it didn’t all go to plan, but the way I handled myself was definitely a new improved me. I have a strong connection with my son, and he is a calm, relaxed baby. ne thing I hear a lot about is parents being frustrated with their teenagers. My wholehearted suggestion is to look at your own actions and behaviours first! Here’s why. Are you guilty at times of calling them selfish? Of accusing them of wasting time, thinking they know everything, sleeping too much, their room being messy, rude behaviour, putting loads of expectations on them to strive and be a better person (via school grades and appearances)? Or perhaps they never share what’s going on in their world? Judgement after judgement sprinkled with loads of projection. I also hear the teenagers’ side, expressing that they are confused with their parents: “Why are they telling me not to drink or do drugs, with a glass of wine or beer in their hand each night? Trying to give me advice about how to live my life when their life seems so stressful! Not enough time or money – like ever! Asking me to talk to them
when all I get is shut down or their ‘right’ opinion. They never listen to me. All I see is them complaining about life, work, money, each other, their friends etc.” One young girl was sent to me because her mum was worried about her smoking marijuana. When I questioned the girl, she said to me that the drug gave her a good feeling and she was lost with how to give herself this feeling. Especially at home! She said, “My parents completely change when their friends come over, pretending everything is great, talking sweetly to me and each other, then they have dinner and get drunk. They try and tell me to not take a drug to make me feel better. My mum takes anti-depressants and all they do on weekends is drink with friends. They sent me to you to fix ‘my’ problem! They are so fake and I do not want to live my life like that. Mum never tells anyone she is on anti-depressants. I don’t care who knows about me

smoking weed. It makes me feel good – what else can I do?!” Parents, gone are the days where our advice is that valid. We have been replaced by Google! It is our actions that matter and are seen. It is our thoughts (the ones at home) that create the energy which they feel. If your teenager is stressing you out please, before you blame or judge, look at yourself and who you are at home! They are our energetic evolution. They can be seen as ‘Our Google’. It’s awesome that as teenagers they think they feel invincible, and have so much confidence! That’s the energy that we all need to follow our dreams. Instead of advising, ask: What are your dreams? How are you going to create that? What do you research on Google? Why are you taking drugs? We worry and stress over how to handle our child’s challenging behaviour; the whining, tantrums, aggression, not listening or cooperating. We may find ourselves reacting in ways we never thought we would. Experience with mothering has shown that to change behaviours in a child we first need to change our own reactions and coping mechanisms. Treating ourselves can greatly enhance our relationships. Tip 4 – Cultivate Appreciation: If you find yourself constantly worrying, try to focus your mind on things you’re grateful for. When you do this, you’re shifting your energy into a more positive space and opening yourself up to experience peace rather than stress. Keep a small book that you can write down ten things a day that you are grateful for, even things that you would like to be grateful for. You will be pleasantly surprised! Tip 5 – Have Fun: Laugh and be silly in play. Learning and bonds develop from fun activities. Laughter reduces stress and triggers the release of endorphins; the body’s natural feelgood chemicals. 7 SIMPLE YET PROFOUND STEPS TO BE THE PARENT YOU CHOOSE TO BE Step 4: Be in this Moment resent moment awareness is a lovely thought. We all want to be in the moment with our kids, connected with our deeper selves and live our lives from a place of peace and flow. But in the busyness of life, it often remains an idyllic place that we’ll get to one day… when I have finished the chores, put the kids to bed, replied to my emails, and tidied the kitchen… The truth is that the ‘now’ is always here. We just get so caught up in the ‘doing’ of life, our worries, duties and challenges, that we don’t stop and reconnect with ourselves in the magic of NOW. In fact research shows that our minds are in the future or the past at least 95% of the time, thinking, worrying, analysing or lamenting. When we are not in the ‘now’ we are
not consciously aware and the mind defaults to the subconscious with all the old programming you received as a child. So when your kids push your buttons, you may react in ways you would rather not and hear your mother’s voice coming out of your mouth saying something that you swore you would never say! When we are triggered, the present moment is even more elusive, yet it is the only place where we can connect with our deeper knowing and respond consciously to the needs of the moment. The present moment is a haven, but if we are stuck in our busy minds and rarely connect within, then it will be so much more inaccessible in the heat of the moment. So remember to pause and breathe; acknowledge and feel your feelings; and have compassion for yourself. This brings you into the present moment

ife for teenagers can seem like an uphill battle. Not only do they have their hormones fluctuating and their brain changing, their intuition is continuing to develop. Each and every person is born with empathic abilities as well as other psychic senses. It is important that our young ones are aware of them and have boundaries in place to help them stay on their true path rather than being discouraged or overly influenced by peer pressure. It is not uncommon for teenagers to feel lost or disconnected as they negotiate their way through the world but it doesn’t have to be that way for them. There are also many others who feel a deep sense of purpose that are able to identify their calling at a young age – and yet may find it difficult to maintain a level of peace with so much hatred, disharmony and frenzied energies happening in their surroundings.
As parents and care providers, we can offer them opportunities to grasp a deeper level of who they are with the Rainbow Children (ThetaHealing®) courses. These classes have been designed to help children and teens develop their intuitive abilities and gain incredible life skills, so they can co-create their life with ease and perhaps even with more certainty, as they connect with the creator (the energy which flows through all things). Often by the time the child has reached their teenage years, they have experienced some deep pains or struggles in dealing with life. Rather than those pains becoming blocks on their paths, or slipping into unhealthy cycles, we can help and teach them how to resolve their ‘stuff’ and be free from past upsets. Through their own experience, they will go through some deep healing
while also gaining the skills to facilitate healing of others. We incorporate a number of cool intuitive exercises which see them gaining confidence as they are validated. It’s important they feel safe and be in the company of other likeminded teens to help them to open up and discover more about themselves and the world around them. The classes are taught to various age groups: we have the kids 7-11 years, teens 12-15 years as well as young adults which are 16 years and over (but this class is also open to adults, parents and care providers). These classes, while being fun, help them to be balanced spiritually, mentally and physically… so that their bodies and brains are balanced and equipped to deal with this world. LIKE A BOSS?

ne of the most common things I hear parents say is, “I just want my kids to be happy”. Often that idea of happiness is a mystery to them, and they might not be experiencing a lot of it in their own lives, but they pray for it for their children. I’ve started to replace this language, when talking to my own children, sharing with them my desire for them to be healthy and fulfilled, rather than just ‘happy’. Being healthy will encompass a full range of varying emotional states, as a passing state. This change in focus from ‘happy’ to healthy can open inclusive discussions that teach true emotional health. As parents we guide our children through it all, but how can we help them navigate their way through all the emotional experiences in life if we haven’t yet mastered it ourselves? What if you started with yourself, and were to share with your kids what
you discover? Here are some simple steps using some art expression tools: STEP 1. Using a sketch book, with pastels, charcoal, paint, pencils or clay to play with, you can begin to talk about the many different feelings you and your child/ren experience. Ask them to draw some, or pick colours that represent different feelings. STEP 2. Picking one they don’t let themselves feel much, like anger, sadness, jealousy, or fear as a starting point, ask your child to scribble the feeling on the page, and let themselves feel it as they draw, or scribble or play with their clay as they make the feeling bigger inside themselves. They may even tell you they feel it in their heart or fists or somewhere specific in their body. This is great, just keep feeling it and making it bigger. STEP 3. Help them explore layers of feelings and explain how a feeling will keep changing after a few seconds
and shift into another feeling. As you keep drawing, and feeling and allowing without judging any feeling as good or bad, this shifts your relationship with emotions to allow all feelings, and ironically as you do this, they get lighter and better naturally. STEP 4. While playing with art, you can discuss experiences that have happened and ask your child/ren how they felt, to keep the lines of communication open. When we do these sessions with parents and children together, it helps shift the culture at home to a deeper acceptance of natural varying emotions, encouraging better communication, and closeness between each family member. o you know the number ONE reason why your lips get cracked, sore and lose collagen? Your lips don’t have any sebaceous glands. This is a good time to start treatment before you suffer too much pain or accidentally spread the virus. When choosing an effective treatment, always look for ingredients that have an anti-microbial present such as Manuka honey. This is an effective ingredient and is used in hospitals to combat staph infections (MRSA). It is best to avoid any products that offer essential oils in your balms. Part 1 • Swimming is great exercise for arthritic dogs that love the water.
• Add parsley, celery tops, grated ginger and activated turmeric, flax/ linseed, fish oil or sunflower oil to the diet. The Chinese herbal formula Du Huo Ji Sheng Wan can be helpful. CONSTIPATION • Mix ¼ teaspoon to 1 teaspoon psyllium fibre powder (depending on the size of your pet) into moist food to prevent constipation. • Offer more water, and add a small amount of cooked pumpkin and green vegetables to the diet. If your pet is a reluctant drinker, add a little salty homemade gravy to its food to help it
work up a thirst, unless your pet has a cardiac condition and is on a salt restricted diet. Feed bone broth soups that have at least 60% vegetables in the stew. DANDRUFF • Add linoleic acid and more omega 3s to your dog’s food. The best sources are safflower and sunflower oils, flax (linseed) and fish oil. Add about ½ teaspoon (for a small dog) to
