arjoram is a hardy perennial bush and is one of the most widely used herbs in Europe yet Oregano is used more throughout the rest of the world. Although very similar to Oregano, Marjoram isn’t as strong in both smell and taste, but still has a distinctive flavour. You may also be familiar with names like Sweet Marjoram or Knotted Marjoram. It was known to the Greeks as a sign of happiness. It matches very well with chicken and meats, especially veal and pork. And goes well with all vegetables, especially tomatoes. Try adding it to any dish that contains cheese - it just lifts it completely. Adding it to the end of the cooking process will ensure the delicate flavour won’t be destroyed. FOOD FOR THE SOUL Ingredients: 1 whole med. size beetroot peeled 1 small yellow squash Macadamia oil Apple cider vinegar Agave For the Walnut Cheese: 1 cup of walnuts 2 cloves of garlic ¼ cup of cashew milk 2 tsps of savoury yeast Dash of macadamia oil Squeeze of lime S&P to taste Method: Slice the beetroot and squash thinly using a mandolin (+1 thin). Immerse in a bowl with ½ macadamia oil, ¼ apple cider vinegar and ¼ agave. Season with S&P. Allow to marinade for at least an hour. Combine the walnuts, garlic, cashew milk, savoury yeast, oil, lime and seasoning. Blend thoroughly to achieve firm to moist consistency. To make up begin by taking a slice of beetroot and apply a teaspoon of the cheese mixture. Top with a slice of the marinaded squash. Serve each of the small raviolis on a bed of green leaves of your choice.

This month Holistic Bliss talks to Sarah Clarke, the owner and managing dir ector of local business, N atural Earth Health Pr oducts. In just two years she has completely transformed an existing health food business that she bought that had been operating previously for twenty-f ve years. Q: What do you love about your work? A: I have always had a passion for holistic health. We are blessed with an amazing machine and we need to look after it really well. Respecting that your health is your greatest asset is so important. leansing or detoxing the body has been understood as a way to stay healthy and ward off ailments from as far back as Ancient Health Tradition findings. The health benefits from cleansing the body continue to be well documented today. The benefits of cleansing with coconut oil, in particular organic virgin coconut oil, have recently been recognised as taking the detoxification process of the body to a whole other level. Coconut oil is a saturated fat that consists primarily of medium-chain fatty acids (MCFAs). The MCFAs in coconut oil possess incredible health-giving

Burmese Golden Semolina Pudding FOOD FOR THE SOUL
y cousin Teresa would make this for us whenever she visited and it was one of my favourites especially cold, with a cup of tea. Generally Burmese meals do not include sweets. Fresh tropical fruits in season are usually served after the meal to cool and cleanse the palette. Like most other neighbouring countries in the region, sweets are eaten in between meals as a snack, although, unlike India and Thailand the sweets of Burma are only mildly sweet. The recipe I have shown below is quite easy to make but perhaps you may need another pair of hands on standby to assist with the stirring as once the semolina begins to thicken it can be quite a task. MY main tip here is to KEEP STIRRING until the mixture begins to pull away cleanly from the sides of the pan. It is traditionally served on its own but I like to serve it with whole fresh berries and a mix of rose water. Fragrant and exotic; it really gives the dish a modern twist and for those who like to indulge, a sweet coconut and cardamom cream wouldn’t hurt.
SHWEGYI SANWIN MAKIN – Burmese Golden Semolina Pudding Pronounced “Sinnamikin” Recipe by Trish Davison Ingredients: 1 cup course semolina 1 cup coconut milk 2 cups coconut cream 1 cup brown sugar 1 teaspoon salt 125g ghee (butter or peanut oil can be substituted but ghee has a particular flavour that I personally adore in this recipe Pinch of cardamom powder 2 large eggs beaten 2 tbsp slivered almonds Small handful of raisins 1 tbsp white and black poppy seeds Method: Put the semolina into a LARGE heavy based pan and on mid heat, stir till it begins to slightly change colour and you get a fragrant roasted smell. Be careful NOT TO BURN IT. Add in the coconut milk and cream and stir making sure to remove all lumps. Add the sugar and bring to a slow boil – Continue stirring all the time. Add Ghee and continue cooking and stirring until the
mixture is beginning to thicken and at the first sign of bubbles turn down the heat and add the remaining ingredients except the poppy and sesame seeds. Allow to simmer gently for about 8-10 minutes and the mixture begins to pull away cleanly from the pan. Pour into a large baking dish or cake pan that has been greased or lined with baking paper. Sprinkle the poppy seeds and toasted sesame seeds at the very end and bake in an oven that has been preheated to 160 degrees for 40 minutes. Grill the top to make it crispy, golden brown and crunchy. Serve warm or at room temp with the berries and sweet cardamom cream. Burma In Ya Belly HEAT and EAT prepared meals are now available at RED HOT CHILLI PEPPER, Bulcock Street Caloundra. met Jules O’Neill for the first time this month and experienced her enigmatic, joyful, warm energy. Not only is she the mother of three beautiful children, she is a pioneer in the field of energy healing in Queensland and will soon be releasing her powerful new book, ‘Wake up and Live’. Through realising her special healing gifts she has gone on to help thousands of people heal their lives with energy and awareness. So it’s a delight to share Jules’ transformational journey! From an early age Jules had a keen sense of adventure and was open to life’s possibilities even though she felt quite ‘different’ at times from others. Jules grew up in Sydney and was raised by her family who were of Polish decent (second generation from the war) and Catholics. She said her family would often deal with stress by yelling, eating rich foods, drinking alcohol, and being workaholics, and her formative years were characterised by high emotional turmoil. “As a teenager, I couldn’t control my anxieties and stresses and I used to keep them hidden so on the outside you probably couldn’t tell but at home I would explode and be uncontrollable and so I used alcohol and marijuana to try to calm me down but it never worked,” she explained. Then in her early twenties she had an awakening and commenced her healing journey. The catalyst came when her boyfriend consulted a chiropractor for a sports injury. When Jules heard her boyfriend talk about the idea of cellular healing, she felt an energetic calling to have a session with the same chiropractor and went on to have a treatment with him every week for about five years. “I saw these sessions as my uni degree. I healed myself intensively and in the process I opened up to a lot of my gifts that I didn’t know were there,” said Jules. She was eventually able to see and sense energy around people as well as perceive what was blocked or not flowing in their bodies and body systems and realised she could use this understanding to help others heal. How did the Body Consciousness system develop? After she had healed herself quite deeply, she thought about becoming a practitioner (her childhood dream was to become a doctor) and decided to begin healing and facilitating bodies. Although, she says her big training and realisations came when she started having babies. So she began to create a healing system sixteen years ago after healing and facilitating her first born baby girl. Jules used a combination of awareness, muscle testing and imaging. “My daughter would get a rash and I’d heal it with awareness and then when she woke up at night I’d muscle test my body to see if I needed to get up and feed her or change her nappy and so I started to see that my body would guide me as to what was needed. I didn’t tell anyone because I couldn’t explain it or understand it,” she said. Jules also admitted that when her baby had a rash and she couldn’t heal it, she realised the rash was connected with an issue she had at the time and when she healed that issue in herself, her baby’s rash disappeared. So she started to see how we can pick up other people’s ‘stuff ’ and this understanding grew as she had two more children. “My children have been my greatest teachers,” she said. But her biggest breakthrough was at mother’s club. “I used to hear all the other mother’s being upset about not sleeping
and their babies being sick and also being stressed about their husbands, so I started to share the tools I was using and asked if I could help them. That’s when I started healing other people confidently,” Jules said. After her third baby, it was a natural progression for Jules to develop a workshop for women called ‘Women’s Wisdom’- teaching women how to do this for themselves and in their own families. The system grew and expanded and in order to teach all the energy techniques, tools and concepts she developed ‘Body Consciousness.’ Her main focus now is training healers and watching more people benefit from the tools. Because Jules hasn’t been influenced by a teaching or a specific path, she is a leader in her field and her personal practice (based at Circle Wellness Clinic on the Sunshine Coast) is booked out a year in advance. The world of energy is the same magic that operates around us and through our planet, we can’t see or define it but we know the tide comes in and out and the flowers open and close. That’s the same energy Jules is able to share through Body Consciousness so we can know how to use awareness and energy. Where our bodies have been shut down, the awareness opens up channels to let energy come in and heal our emotional and physical issues. The energy first heals our body systems and keeps us growing and then once we are healthy, we can use energy to create whatever we desire. “Once you become aware of what’s going on behind the scenes, that awareness unlocks something amazing in your body”. Jules believes it’s also important to have a balance between our neurology and the environment. For example, if we plant a mango tree in the snow it will struggle but if we grow it in south east Qld it will flourish. She said conditioned patterns and programs also play an important part. “For example, the energy behind the conditioned patterns and
programs of me being reactive, insecure, neurotic and explosive, is the ability to be psychic, telepathic, aware and accurate in reading energy well.” The energy behind all programs can be transformed from a negative reaction to a positive action. A great question to ask your body is, ‘how else can I use the energy of those ‘insecurities’?’ Jules believes it’s about tuning in and “trusting your whole body, not just your thinking, so that eventually your life will be full of warmth and what you didn’t like about yourself will become valuable.” She says body awareness is also about looking after the physical body without creating too many rigid regimes. “I don’t have a judgement if I drink a glass of champagne for breakfast or a green smoothie. I use energy and awareness to maintain my health.” I tune into my body and follow what it needs in that moment. Although when she is in creating mode, she is quite strict with her health routine to support her body and facilitate her creativity. “I do Ashtanga yoga on most days but if I didn’t do it or took a month off it wouldn’t bother me. I don’t judge myself or others anymore about anything,” she said. “It is important to follow your own flow, what feels right via your heart in the moment. That’s where all the magic is.” Jules sees how everyone and everything is related. “Everyone under their reactive behaviours is an amazing soul. I’ve treated many people in many different situations, some even extreme, and regardless of the story, underneath is a soul saying ‘help me’ and show me who I am. I have also seen so many miracles; I’ve seen big things shift when using the combination of awareness and energy. Things like chronic fatigue, long-term illnesses, depressions, financial struggles, relationship issues, anxieties, addictions.. What is the consciousness or meaning of the breast what is the story leading to breast cancer? The consciousness of the breast includes respect, nourishment, nurturing, acceptance, sensuality and sexuality. The nipple chakra relates to neediness and resentment. Janet never felt she was given special consideration or given attention and felt totally unacceptable. She had created breast cancer. Janet continually attracted
men that treated her with disrespect and disregard as though she was nothing and not acceptable. She treated herself that way too. Janet never put herself first and never gave herself attention. She never acknowledged her success or achievements. Janet did not see she made a difference to people’s lives and once she accepted that and acknowledged herself her cancer healed. Hannah craved nourishment and nurturing. As a mum she continually gave this to everyone else but not herself. Since staying at home she felt like she lost her sensuality and sexuality and was seen as ‘just a mum’. It was the cancer that gave Hannah the ‘permission’ to nurture and nourish herself on all levels including change of diet, daily regime, life style and putting herself as number one. Her hunger was now to live an empowered life and attracted everything to her that was encouraging. She regained her identity as a sensual and sexual woman.
Each body part is programmed to hold particular emotions and we subconsciously create disease to fulfil that emotion. Neediness is one of these diseases locked in to the breast chakra. The neediness comes from feeling alone. They do not realise their own potential and what they can achieve as an interdependent person. They can create breast cancer as a way of feeling loved and their partner not leaving them. That is what happened to Bridget. nformation overload and overwhelm can create much confusion in this technological revolution, as we try to keep up with all the data, and resources that are ours at the flick of a button. The technology collates, computes, files and sorts things for us and creates an avenue of clarity and the answers and messages we are looking for, become apparent. All we have to do is choose which information is aligning with who we are and what we inherently believe. The technology delivers the message clearly. Our physical bodies have an incredible capacity to receive information and communicate it to us as well. Sight, hearing, taste, touch, our feelings, intuition and instincts, and our energy bodies are absorbing and taking in so much information from our environment and processing it at lightning speed. The awareness our bodies have is so high, however many of us have not got a clue how to interpret, decipher or even listen to the messages we receive constantly. This is where we end up in health crisis and chaos.
Our body is an incredible gauge for the information being fed to us constantly from our environment and how this works with us and through us. The clearer we are in ourselves, the easier it is to understand what our body is telling us BEFORE it becomes a major health issue, perhaps an injury, or disease. The world of metaphysics, the emotional or energetic cause of illness, is becoming more accepted and advanced as quantum science supports what the ancients have held true through time. We as physical beings are a product of our environment, energetic conduits that give and receive messages through vibration and frequency. These messages are defined by the individual filters they have to travel through, for us to perceive them into a level of personal understanding. The physical body is the LAST layer, or level, that will show us when something is not aligned. The misalignment has already travelled through our spirit, energy bodies and
emotions to finally land in the physical. Subtle messages from your inner awareness speaking to your body. These can be feelings of being off, down or icky. Ignore these subtle messages, then the symptoms become more painful and debilitating. That is ALWAYS when we will do something. Funnily enough, this is the hardest one to shift. Once the messages have become dense in physical form, it takes patience and commitment of lifestyle changes to get back on track. Choosing to live with greater body awareness is a simple act of selfknowledge and responsibility. Listen to your body, ask what it requires, meditate, walk, spend time in nature, look at how you feed your body, and how you feed your thoughts, do some energy clearing, and simply ask your body...How are you feeling, what do you need? ur body is both the temple and the barometer of our soul. It is therefore important to ground and balance the life-force and thus maintain a healthy productive body temple in order to best house such a treasure. I often see clients who are wonderful people, with high ambitions, or dedicated to their spiritual growth however their body is not a reflection of their aims or goals. Their body is sick, tired or out of balance. This in turn plays havoc with their emotional balance, feeding negative and self defeating thought patterns. Without healthy energy levels, we will fail to achieve our outcomes. The body is the most incredible gift, with its inbuilt intelligence that links us directly to a ‘Divine Intelligence’ so perfect that we can achieve Heaven on earth. Our body has an innate ability to
tell us very clearly what is healthy and supportive of a Vibrant Happy Life and what is blocking this achievement and pushing us into struggle mode. ave you judged that you and your body are in a relationship of pain, suffering and gore? And then sentenced yourself to a lifetime of misery? How often do we become ‘aware’ of our bodies by judging them? Please, look at this. When you wake up in the morning do you say hello to your body with gratitude and kindness or do you start to judge it? “I’m too fat. I look tired. Why can’t my body change?” What do you say to your body throughout the day? Any kindness? Any gratitude? Or is it judgment after judgment? What if it’s not your fault? We’ve been taught in this reality to judge – to find what’s wrong so we can fix it. With that as the standard operating
procedure, where are the possibilities of fun and joy with our body? What? Fun and joy with your body? I know this sounds like a foreign concept but if your body got you to read this then is it likely that somewhere you must know that this is possible? Think about somebody who you adore. Got that person? Now imagine a time when they were grateful for you and treated you with kindness. How would that feel? Expanded or contracted? Now imagine that this person judged you cruelly? WHO TAKES CARE OF THE HEALERS? By Sarah McCrum
ealing is a tough profession. Working all day long, often alone, with people who are sick or in crisis. The people who are attracted to healing are often very caring and give everything they’ve got to their clients – and therein lies the problem. When they give their all, day after day, they run the long-term risk of becoming exhausted, drained of energy and eventually sick – to the surprise of everyone around. How can a healer get sick? Experienced healers know that health is very dynamic and needs constant maintenance. Our body is like an instrument through which we express and experience life and if it is out of tune in any way this will compromise our quality of life. There are warning signs for all of us, and some special ones that apply to healers more than others. Negative emotions are the number one sign of things getting out of balance. Ideally we would all work on
self-healing the moment we start to experience any negativity, but in reality most people just try to push through the emotions and survive, forcing the negativity a little deeper. Feeling exhausted or drained after a day’s work is a big danger sign. Your energy has become significantly out of balance and you would be wise to look for better ways of working. You may be taking on the negative energy of your clients, which is highly risky, and healing that leaves you exhausted is lacking true power. Another sign to watch out for is if you feel you are leading your clients to make positive changes you know you are not really doing yourself. Are you walking your talk? If not, this can leave you feeling extremely uncomfortable at first, and eventually leads to feelings of fraudulence, and is very challenging to your emotional and physical health. If you are a healer it is wise to have a mentor who can support you and help

uning in and trusting the awareness of our bodies is something I am incredibly passionate about. By having an understanding of how energy works and by gaining awareness from my own body, this has created so many shifts within me and in my life, I am truly grateful for all the insight I have gained and continue to gain through my body. ell the answer to that is simple! Everyone! Meditation is a wonderful tool that we can incorporate very easily into our daily lives. Meditation happens consciously and unconsciously – consciously is done so with the intention of sitting quietly, breathing and relaxing; unconscious meditation occurs when we do something on ‘auto pilot’ and can’t remember doing it, for example, driving a car for many kilometres and arriving safely at your destination and not remembering or realising how you got there. ippocrates said “let food be thy medicine” and when we health care workers, naturopaths or whatever we are these days, ask sick people to change their diet, we get “Oh I can’t do that” or “You want me to drink water? Ha ha”. Australians are living the “party life” plain and simple. Party foods are not nourishing foods. If people needing help went on a raw vegan diet, they will see exactly what Hippocrates was talking about. After all, isn’t Hippocrates the father of medicine? I don’t think he meant bacon, cheese and donuts. The reason food is medicine is that the human body (or actually any animal body) will detoxify and repair all on its own, all it needs is for us to stop harming it with “food”. That’s why an alkalising nutritious raw vegan diet is the fastest way to health. But wait…There’s more… Something is missing…and that is Vitamin C. Of course if our bodies had the

So just use the colour of your urine as a guide to how much water you need. Clear is good. Yellow means more. So by letting food be your medicine, you could be soon seeing a healthier you. LEUKEMIA and ME! By Lis Blake
ow often do we sit down and ask our bodies – ‘how do you feel?’ With our busy life-styles, we often ignore the one thing that is definitely the most important possession we own! I know I used to! Some 25 years ago, when I first started taking an interest into ‘why’ certain things occurred in my life, I was blessed to have some amazing teachers ‘fall into my lap!’ One of them was Dr. John Harrison who wrote ‘Love Your Disease It’s Keeping You Healthy’ and I was even more blessed to have the opportunity to work with him. At that time, I had managed ‘to develop’ Leukemia and I was looking for answers as to why this had happened. I can remember him saying ‘that “it” will go away when you don’t need it anymore!’ When he said that, it made no sense to me at all! Now I can happily say that with awareness and yes – much introspection – I have no symptoms and this I accomplished with no help from the medical profession. (I must add here in my work with clients, I always suggest that they seek medical advice.) I learnt pretty early on during ‘my inward journey’ that I had as a child, developed a habit of ‘getting sick’ to get my needs met and/or to ‘get out of ’ doing things I didn’t want to do. During my life, this has lead to many
uncomfortable situations regarding my body!! Since working with John, I have continued my path of discovery and have been for many years, using what I have learnt to help others overcome the ‘challenges’ that they have in their lives – mainly helping them deal with depression, anxiety, relationship problems to do with loss. Now that earth’s energies are rapidly rising with our shift into higher dimensions, many people are finding that the issues they haven’t dealt with are coming to the surface in the form of illnesses. Transforming Sex into Love
ur deepest yearning as human beings (beyond basic needs of food, safety and shelter) is to love and be loved. And yet for many couples, after a time, sex and love can become strangers to each other, to the point where they often may not even co-exist. Where does the Love go? We often look to our intimate partner to provide that ultimate fulfillment of deep physical love. However, having to rely or depend on another to fulfil us sexually, to bring us to a place of connection, of feeling whole again, will always leave us with an element of neediness. This neediness means that we are always seeking outside ourselves. Instead of coming from a sense of presence, wholeness and trust, we develop unconscious strategies in the hope to secure love or affection. This can also make us ungrounded in our body and our being. someone is pulling at you energetically and the first thing you naturally do is you want to pull away. Whereas if the other person is present within themselves, connected to their own being and heart, then you will naturally want to move towards them. So how do you stop coming from neediness in a sexual relationship and start coming from a place of love and wholeness? The answer lies in taking the focus off your partner and back onto you and being so at home within your own body, so connected to you and your own heart first, before you even begin to make love. There are two main keys to truly being more at home in your body – Movement and Stillness. Moving your body through slow movement practices such as yoga and chi gung and more vigorous movement like walking, running, dancing or shaking. Slower practices help you enter
the body more consciously and the more vigorous movement, can help you release stored emotions that can be like an armour over the body – not nice for making love! It’s not like you do this every time before you make love, but if one or more of these are part of your daily routine, you will find it easier and more natural to bring the focus back to yourself and to feel at home in your body. Finally, when you do come together to make love, sit quietly with yourself, close you eyes, relax your body. Simply be still. rt has always been my devoted passion alongside my love of horses â€“ which is probably how it all started (when I was little, I was always drawing horses â€“ today I have four!) And my love of my art has led me to becoming a professional portrait artist and more recently I have been asked to do a wall mural for the popular Daisyâ€™s Place Restaurant. I remember in the early days, the great feeling of contentment when I was outside drawing something of interest or throwing the watercolours onto the special Archerâ€™s paper and letting the colours glide together. One day I put on a show at the markets and released a drawing of one of my sons (when he was small) - I immediately got a couple of orders from people wanting the same for their children â€“ and it was the beginning
of a great career of being a professional portrait artist. Incredibly, word of mouth became so strong that my portraits went all around the world to Germany, Russia, America, New Zealand, and Canada and of course all around Australia. Like everything that reaches a peak it has to eventually taper off and it was time for a break. But in retrospect I regret taking a break from my art. I moved further out of town and got into sales work for several years before the desire to paint really came back and I then moved onto painting on large canvases with oil

Art is me and I am all about my art â€“ and everything changed in my life to bring me back to my world of art. I even moved to be in nature at Delaneyâ€™s Creek , where inspiration is overflowing and opening up a whole new world again.

aving coached hundreds of highly successful people, I can tell you the secrets of those who develop a mastery of body awareness, and the significant difference this makes. Body awareness provides an extraordinary amount of information, insight and understanding of yourself and others. It can lead to astounding self-growth, contribution to others and with that, business success. Authors such as Louise Hay and Catherine Ponder have provided excellent information and concepts about developing our body awareness and its direct relationship to healing. Adapting this information for our approach to business takes our personal empowerment to a whole new paradigm. The first secret is body awareness goes way beyond clichĂŠ body language techniques and gimmicky, insincere tricks to beguile others. It begins with
an awareness of what your own body is telling you about a person or situation and what that means for you. It begins with developing your powers of selfobservation, and observation of others. Start developing your body awareness by noticing how you are feeling and reacting as you go about your day. Simply stop at random times during your day and notice your body, your emotions and your thoughts. Take down a few notes to review after a week. Where do you feel your reactions in your body? Is it one part of your body or a few favorites? Notice both the tense and uncomfortable body feelings along with the vital and energized. What are you doing or who are you with in relation to these feelings you are experiencing? Notice the emotions you experience in relation to the reaction in your body and name them. Is there a pattern? Is there a constant theme? Do you mainly move between two or three key emotions? Do you like the results? What do you need to acknowledge
about yourself and the situation to improve or enhance it? The second secret now you are aware of this deep and seemingly automatic connection between your emotions, body and thoughts, is to observe how it impacts others and your business success. Take time to stop and ask yourself what am I feeling; what thoughts am I thinking; and therefore what messages both consciously and unconsciously am I sending? The third secret is you can change this by understanding and resolving the information your body gives you and what that means to you and this business situation. Our bodies provide a wealth of untapped information about what we truly believe and want from a business situation, uncensored by our logic. Simple Stretches By Mary-Lou Stephens
t started with three simple stretches. Actually, let me back up a little. It started at A Chorus Line. As I watched the dancers on stage I was struck by the thought, “I’d like to have what they have. I’d like to be that lithe, that flexible.” Flexibility has never been my strong point, either physically or emotionally. A sports doctor once told me that my flexibility was the worst he’d ever encountered in a woman. He said it was bad even for a bloke! I’ve tried to do something about it in the past and ended up in tears, feeling like a two-year-old in a world she doesn’t understand. Some days after A Chorus Line, when walking the dog, I saw a sign outside a house. A sign I had never seen before. It was for something called physio yoga. I wrote down the number and made an appointment. This is where the three simple stretches come in. At the appointment I told Sarah, the physiotherapist, that I would like my body to be more flexible, that I would love to become more aware of my body and I really wasn’t sure how. I also warned her that when I’d seen physios in the past, after I’d injured my knee and when I had a frozen shoulder, they just loaded me up with exercises that I’d resent having to do and would stop doing at the earliest opportunity. She suggested three simple stretches I could do every day and that I come along to one of her physio yoga classes and see if it suited me. Easy. I could do

that. And I did. Three simple stretches every day. And everyday my awareness of my body increased. I went to one of her classes and instead of feeling like a clumsy fat dolt as I had in past yoga classes, I felt looked after. She was a physio, I was her client, I didn’t have to prove anything to anyone. I could relax. She has a Pilates reformer bed and I asked if I could have some sessions. She guided me through and I started being able to use it on my own. My body loves it; stretching, sliding, pressing and all with an incredible sense of support. I have struggled with my weight from the age of eight. Sometimes fat, sometimes slim but always battling my own body. Through these three simple stretches and the things they have led to, I’ve realised that I’m like a child when it comes to my body. I need to be helped, guided, given gentle encouragement. Instead I have been a tyrant, abusive and cruel. Never aware. Just bossy and thoughtless. It was a revelation to me that I could have a greater connection with my body, not through food and diets, this fad or another, but through movement. Through gentle, supported, nourishing movement. elcome to the Chinese New Year of 2013. It began on Sunday 10th February at the New Moon. The New Year begins with the slippery and philosophical Snake. Chinese tradition employs both Solar and Lunar calendars and the New Moon day of the 10th begins all the official Lunar New Year celebrations and parties. Those born in the Snake year are considered intelligent and philosophical people who give out a calm and peaceful demeanour and love stability. When motivated they will move heaven and earth to achieve what they are after. SNAKE QUALITIES and MYTHOLOGY The Snake, the Chinese say, is one of the great animals of the planet and is the sign of creation, dreams and magic. The Snake is the companion of sorcerers and seers and its symbol is the circle, and thus it pertains to the infinite and to all esoteric knowledge. In the eastern cultures the Snake represents Kudalini energy which is the subtle energy that
circulates from the base of the spine to the top of the skull connecting all the vital centres in the body. The awakening of Kundalini energy is one of the decisive steps in spiritual unfolding, arousing your subtle powers and developing ESPs such as clairvoyance and telepathy. It offers you the insight necessary to understand the world from a greater level. People born in the year of the Snake are often very sophisticated and cultured in their choices for the home. They are elegant and graceful and place emphasis on their comfort when deciding what to decorate with. They are materialistic and often need to have as many of everything as possible. On the economy, the Snake Fire element is a driving force behind the stock market. Each of the Five Chinese Elements affects people’s moods. Fire is joy, Water is fear, Earth is meditation and nurturance, Metal is sadness and Wood is anger. A Fire year then generates optimism and helps drive up the stock market.
