elcome to the first edition for 2017!! I must say, I don’t ever remember a start to a New Year where so many people confessed they were very relieved to say goodbye to the year that had passed and were eager to start a fresh, New Year. So in keeping with this energy, we have a great feature on ‘new beginnings’ for February. And we will be reaching new postal readers this month around Australia including the ACT and Darwin!! It’s also that time of the year when you might be giving yourself a hard time for not sticking to your New Year’s resolutions perfectly. What about if you have your own back for taking those small steps each day and what if this year was about being kind to you while having all that makes your heart sing!

We are entering our 8th year in April and so we have much to share and celebrate and I am also writing my first ever e-book based on the requests and conversations with healers and holistic practitioners in business over the years (see page 36 for more details). My intent is to assist other practitioners to flourish and in the process empower more people. We are delighted to have gorgeous Nicole van Hattem on the cover this month sharing her courageous story with Raelene Byrne (see page 12-13) and what a timely message about ‘being selfish’ it’s a must read for everyone (especially corporates)!

e warned… if you drink chai to enhance vitality, improve health, and nurture yourself then you need to read on… Not all chai is created equal. ‘Real’ chai draws on centuries of wisdom combining fresh whole spices and quality tea, made into a delicious warm drink that is full to the brim with benefits for your digestive system. But in the way of the modern world, this incredible drink has been taken over by the need for speed and profit. And so now when you order a chai at a café, or buy chai at the supermarket, you are most likely getting chai powder, or chai syrup or old stale powdered spices which in no way resembles the ancient Indian drink you were seeking. And so began our two-year journey of chai alchemy. The rules were simple: 1. The flavour had to be divine. 2. The ingredients had to be the

freshest and most potent – all organic, all Fairtrade, as local as possible and all full to the brim with health benefits. 3. We wanted ‘next level’ chai and thus were open to new techniques and ideas. When spices are in their whole dried form, the internal goodness is protected from the elements and can last for a few years. Grinding spices releases the flavour, aroma, life and benefits of the spice, however if left unprotected, they will soon continue to age with air contact. So that’s where the amazing properties of honey come in. We stone grind our spices then immediately coat the tea and crushed spices with organic raw honey (or organic rice malt for vegans). It coats our freshly ground spices, completely protecting them from the air. Our chai tastes vibrant, and this sense of vibrancy may stay with you for some time. ave you ever wondered why every year more people are getting more conscious about the benefits of buying organic food and products? Well, I didn’t think about it until one day I found myself battling chronic fatigue. Back in 2014, my fiancé Cameron (now beloved husband) and I decided to move to Perth for a year to explore the beautiful Western Australia before getting married. After our arrival, everything was looking great. We had rented a nice house near the beach, adopted the cutest Chihuahua ever, Cameron had a pay rise at work and I obtained a job as a manager of one of the biggest Mexican food franchises. But suddenly, everything turned into the worst nightmare I could ever imagine. At first it wasn’t that bad, just a bit of a pain in my joints in the mornings that was disappearing through the day.

So I ignored it but very quickly the pain became worse to the point that doing basic things like getting up out of bed, combing my hair, putting my shoes on or writing notes, became difficult and painful. After a number of incorrect diagnoses my doctor gave up. At that point I had not only arthritis, but also lack of energy, constant pain in my body and skin rashes on arms and legs due to the painkillers prescribed by my doctor. I was confused. Why me? I had exercised almost every day, I was eating “healthy food” and partying and drinking wasn’t on my list of favourite things to do. Then, one day I couldn’t stand the pressure of my job, so I quit. I felt devastated. After two weeks of being at home resting, I started to feel physically better so I decided to apply for a less stressful job as a barista in a coffee shop near home. It took me a couple of days (due to my brain fog) to realise

that everything sold there was not only healthy but also certified organic. So the question came to my mind: What are the benefits of going organic? The answer was right in front of me. The team at the coffee shop were happy, having a good time and looking great. So I decided to detox my body from the inside out. I turned to organic foods and changed all my conventional products including deodorants, creams, perfumes, shampoos, fabric softeners and more, for organic ones with ingredients I could pronounce. Two months later the symptoms were all gone. I have never looked back since. Now I feel more in tune with my body and my mind. I feel full of energy and definitely happier than ever before. t’s easy to forget that food is more than just something to satisfy hunger or excite our taste buds. Food is also medicine, and I encourage you to look at it this way if you aren’t already. When used correctly, many foods have ‘super’ qualities that can help restore, replenish, heal and support our bodies. Here’s a few of my favourite super foods for your digestive health. SLIPPERY ELM POWDER This is one of my favourite gut superfoods, as it can be used to alleviate a whole range of symptoms for inflammatory bowel conditions. This herbal remedy is effective as it contains mucilage, a substance that becomes a slimy gel when mixed with water. The mucilage works to coat and soothe your bowel, making it the ideal thing to try if you have Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), diverticulitis, constipation and diarrhoea. I like to pop it in my morning smoothie or add it to an evening choc chai with: ginger, cinnamon, cacao and almond milk.

PAPAYA AND PAPAYA SEEDS The flesh of papaya fruit is one of the most wonderful sources of hydrating fibre you can eat. But the benefits of this super fruit doesn’t stop there – there’s even more magic in the seeds! The seeds contain high levels of proteolytic enzymes like papain which can help rid your body of parasites. It’s believed that papain may break down parasites and their eggs in the same way that it breaks down undigested protein waste in your food. A fantastic source of digestive enzymes, papaya and its seeds can be helpful for people struggling with low stomach acid and poor digestion, due to its ability to break apart the bonds between amino acids, which are the building blocks of proteins. ACTIVATED ALMONDS So much fuss and ridicule has been made about activated almonds that the real health benefits of activating nuts has been lost in the message. The activation process requires almonds to be soaked in water for a period of 8-12

hours and is believed to deactivate the enzyme inhibitors and anti-nutrients (like phytic acid) to bring the nut to life. The enzyme inhibitors act on your body’s digestive enzymes, preventing the proper digestion and absorption of the many nutrients in the almonds. This can leave you feeling full, bloated and gassy. I met some amazing people, and participated in a workshop where I learnt how to sing and feel energy in my body through singing, which was awesome! DAIRY FREE, VEGAN, PALEO SERVES 2 Organic ingredients: 2 cups raw home-made cashew milk or vegan milk substitute (directions for how to make your own cashew milk are below) 5 tbsp chia seeds 2 tsp vanilla powder 4 medjool dates, soaked overnight 2 handfuls raspberries 1 teaspoon maca powder Toppings of choice (I have used fermented coconut yoghurt and cacao nibs!) Method: Combine all of the ingredients together in a blender. Blend once until well combined then allow to sit for a few minutes. Blend again twice more allowing the chia

seeds to swell a little more each time. This will ensure the seeds stay separated and do not hold together. Serve as desired and garnish with delicious seasonal toppings, fruit and yoghurts. Raw cashew milk: 1 cup cashews, soaked overnight 3 cups filtered water Method: Blend the nuts and water together until well combined and creamy. Using a nut milk bag or muslin cloth strain the milk to remove the cashew pulp leftover. The cashew pulp is great for cashew cheese, raw desserts or sauces! The milk must be kept in the fridge and will last 4-5 days. Feel free to experiment with nut milks adding spices or natural sweeteners. This is a simple and squeaky clean raw

hat happens to us? Does life really wear us down, or do we stop living and begin to simply exist, going through the motions each day, with no connection to whom we really are? How many of us lose our spark, vitality, drive and are constantly seeking it from external sources turning to sugar, alcohol, coffee, chasing success – losing our energy through stressing out? How many of us will put up with a situation, or relationship until we are broken, sick, unrecognisable, exhausted, and ready to give up? 12

How many times have we repeated the same pattern, the same scenarios, the same self-destructive patterns, often called addictions, believing it was not our fault or problem but that of the other person, situation, or events? At what point, or what does it take, to realise that YOU are the thing that matters most, that you are worth the effort and perhaps all those repeated lessons are in fact valuable clues reminding you of a way forward in your life. Nicole van Hattem has lived this experience and now shares her passionfuelled expertise and wisdom from her experience of destructive patterns. These

patterns were not only repeated three times, but took her to extreme burnout scenarios before she really owned her choices and took stock of her life to create something to effectively save lives. You may think being successful is the Holy Grail, yet the personal cost can come at a high price. There is often a disconnection from the relationship with yourself, partners, your health, your sense of value as you strive in the hungry, insatiable energy of chasing success and holding it. Nicole lived a highly successful life in the corporate world in banking in Qatar while enjoying all the benefits and distractions that go along with high

achievement. Stress was a way of life, while addictions became crutches to keep going. Yes she ‘made it’. AND as Nicole said, she was fat, sick and successful. The recognition within herself of the ‘need to change something or break’, became burnout lesson one, which opened the pathway to her first raw food retreat experience in Thailand. This was a retreat geared towards two weeks of cleansing, clearing and support for her burnt-out mind, body, and spirit. Nicole returned to her corporate world feeling refreshed, renewed and ready to share her experience with her CEO boss. An appointment was made to talk about it the next day, but within 24 hours her boss died of a heart attack, aged 49. Nicole never had the opportunity to share the awareness or importance of self-care. Within a few months, Nicole made the decision to return to the retreat centre to learn and gain some skills to save lives. Changing careers from banking to eventually becoming a trailblazer in the wellness industry in the Middle East, brought more success, including creating the first wellbeing centre in Qatar and with that, another burnout. While employing twelve staff, teaching and speaking, her corporate bad habits returned and burnout number two arrived. Nicole realised she was running her wellbeing centre from a corporate mindset. One that was about serving everybody else to the point of exhaustion, where the outcome of success kept her focused externally which resulted in less self-care. As Nicole said, sometimes you must keep learning the same lesson until you LEARN it. Once burnout three started to raise

its head a few years later, Nicole was present enough to recognise the pattern and she closed the doors on 20 years of being overseas to return to Australia. From being a leader, trailblazer, respected and well sought after in the Middle East, Nicole had to re-establish herself in her own country which felt unfamiliar, unrecognisable and she had to face the reality that she couldn’t transfer or relocate her business. The truth was, it was all ending. Now there had to be a new beginning. Nicole pondered… “What do I want to do with my life?” What came through was a clear mission: “Stop Death by Desk” through inspiring conversations that change the way we live and work. Nicole now assists people to remember to be connected to themselves, to act with responsibility, (after all it is your life) and to find ways to create a work-life balance and lifestyle that is sustainable. What does that really mean you may ask? “You need to know what you need. It is NOT selfish to take care of you, it is a sustainability call to action,” she shared. In fact, Nicole wants to turn the word ‘selfish’ on its head. She said, “how can I be called selfish for doing something I love which sustains and fills me? Even airlines tell you to put the oxygen mask on yourself first before anyone else, even children. This applies to all aspects of life.” ‘Selfish’ equates to self-care and sustainability while ‘selfless’ equals a fast road to burnout. Nicole observed and lived the destructive beliefs and patterns of ‘selfless’ behaviours. It involved always doing for others, whether in the workplace or at home, disconnecting from self, feeling exhausted and unhealthy, but in the external world she was seen as a success. These days she embraces a healthy way of being and is empowering others with her self-care wisdom. Her message about personal accountability is enthusiastic, direct and clear: “I can choose it”, “If I need help then seek it out, find the experts, tools, skillsets information, because in the end, no-one can save you but you.” Nicole can show you the way, but your own responsibility is required to take action. Anytime you choose

something new for yourself, you are opening to a new beginning, a fresh start; a way forward. Many people experience pain before they are shaken up enough to change. Nicole suggests, “Go to the place of pain and see where the opportunity is.” In Nicole’s case, her pain was repeating the same lesson to finally embrace her mission. In recent times, Nicole has created some amazing platforms for giving and sharing her wisdom, expertise, and inspiration. Her podcast, ‘Hot and Healthy with Nicole van Hattem’ is helping change mindsets, as Nicole concentrates on hot businesses and healthy lives. Through books, on-line coaching, podcasts and TV, the goal is to reach one million people to create change and save lives. And she is showing people she can do this while still keeping her cup full.

hat if when your body was in pain it was asking you to have new beginnings? What if your disease and treatment were telling you to have the time of your life? What if it was saying you are not creating your heart’s desires? My first reaction would be to say thank you to my body for the pain, the disease and diagnosis as I know that it is time for a new beginning. I can say that 90% of my medical intuitive clients have had new beginnings due to their illness or life situation such as job loss, relationship breakup, being upset with family members, having conflict at work and any other emotional, chemical, mental and physical upset. We forget that as a soul having a human experience when these ‘pains’ happen that they are an opportunity for us to create our heart’s desires, and have a new beginning. And yes, I admit that when we are in the ‘story of pain’ it can be tricky to see the ‘new’. That is why I teach my clients and students to always say ‘thank you’ first even if they do not see the lesson of what is happening.

A new beginning may be learning to love yourself, saying no, working more or working less, resting, sleeping, playing or even just allowing yourself to have holidays. One common theme I see is that many will not give themselves permission to enjoy their life. On two separate occasions, I recall two elderly gentlemen saying, “I am Catholic therefore I am guilty and cannot have fun”. WOW what an affirmation! These men had both presented with heart problems… they were not creating their heart’s desires as they thought it was ‘wrong’ to do so. And yet the heart which is love of self, was ‘screaming’ at them to have new beginnings. They had commenced that with a new diet, exercise and losing weight but they forgot to have fun and could not recall what that felt like. So part of their new beginnings and to support the heart was to learn what fun was and to learn to love themselves enough to love life. Children are the best teachers of new beginnings and living life to the fullest. When you see a child play, they have continual new beginnings, they play from

the heart and they searched for their heart’s desires. Every moment is a new opportunity and game. What would it take for you to love yourself enough and take the step for your heart’s desires and live the life you love? And when you do, your body will thank you in every way especially the heart organ. Embrace your new beginning! don’t know about you, but 2016 was an ‘interesting’ year for me; let’s just call it that. Plenty of enjoyable times but also plenty of times to strongly practise mindfulness and non-reaction! So… Now what for 2017? Less anxiety? Less depression? More joy and happiness? More healthy habits of body and mind? It is tough to change behavioural and thought habits on a ‘one chance per year’ basis. Our behaviours and emotions often have strong underlying reasons for them, and simply the start of a new year is generally not enough to override the reasons for maintaining the old behaviour, thinking and feeling. One of the reasons mentioned above is our tendency to ‘own’ our emotional states and mental health issues. Often, we talk about ‘my’ depression, ‘my’ anxiety, ‘my’ mental health issues, etc, as if they were THINGS we can pick up, look at and

observe objectively. Can you remember the last time you had the flu or a head cold? And the time before that? Would you call those instances my flu, or would you say you had THE flu again. Were they the SAME flu, coming back to haunt you, or was it a different version? Often (not always, but I’ll leave that for another article), the same goes for symptoms of anxiety and depression. They are not expressions of the same thing (MY depression), but new signs of a new state of feeling depressed (THE depression). Not calling a mental problem yours, but seeing it as a ‘thing’ that keeps coming back every now and then is one of the many steps towards improvement. In that light, here’s my mindfulness tip for 2017: start seeing EACH DAY as a new beginning. Not just each new year, but each day! When you wake up you are not the same person as the

one that went to bed; you are always changing. Start – mindfully – to take each day as an opportunity to ‘own’ your mental states a little bit less; to make ONE minor change in behaviour or thinking; to take whatever comes at us as a new experience; to realise that we are constantly changing and evolving, never the same. Doing so will slowly but surely enable you to see that we have the power and capability to learn to accept what it is we don’t like, and to slowly change it (or our perspective of it) into more effective ways of living. There is a huge amount of freedom in realising that nothing is permanent, and that things can be changed one small step at a time, rather than trying to do so BIG TIME each new year. his tells us that we have 365 opportunities to start anew, create a new direction, do something different, begin all over again and operate from a clean slate. New beginnings stem from a decision that something must change in a part of life that we are living; something is not aligning, resonating, or perhaps we are done with that part. The first step is the recognition, then the letting go, decisions and choices follow, and the last part is the follow through, taking action. Wishing for change is purely a form of entertainment, intending the change sets a course of action which requires us to show up. Not only are we creating our new start, we also have the support of a bigger power. 2017 will show us a few new ways to live and one way I have already seen happening. Recently I was sitting with some

friends and discussing the ways of the world when a baby swallow landed next to the hand of one of my friends. It flipped and fluttered about, then suddenly took flight. Then the parent birds took off after this baby swallow. For a moment, we were mesmerised by the beauty of nature, then realised, we were being shown a powerful way to live this year ahead. For too many years, we have looked for the safety net before we take the leap into something new; something ‘risky’. Once we know there is a way out or plan B safety net, we will take the cautious step forward. When that baby bird took its first flutter of wings for flight, it landed on a table, but it kept fluttering until it took off, then the safety net, parent birds showed up. What if we are being encouraged to take those risky steps into the new world, and TRUST the safety net to

appear? It could be something we cannot imagine. Have courage to action what you KNOW is true for you; trust that you will be supported, will have more freedom, and helped to let go of some of the self-doubt and diminishment of self – while waiting for things to be put in place. What if this new life, New Year, new beginning is indeed that‌ a whole new way of moving forward. If the last few years have been about clearing, letting go, releasing so we can become more of whom we are, then playing safe is not going to change anything, it is a repeat of all that has been done previously. Where can you take courageous steps towards your goals, desires and dreams, knowing your safety nets will appear as soon as you show you are committed to your soul’s journey?

ccording to Carlos Elysee, fitness guru and founder of the highly successful ‘30 Minute Blitz’ and ‘10 Minute Turnaround’ programs, getting more out of your exercise by doing it less may sound like a strange thing to say, but it is absolutely true. Society these days is time poor. People are working longer hours, sometimes even two jobs, and whatever time they have left, they are spending with the kids, doing household chores or catching up with friends. Exercise is definitely last on their list of priorities. Many people believe that exercise simply takes too long to get any obvious benefit from it. This is very much ‘old school’ thinking and we need to change people’s mindsets. To live a healthy lifestyle, we need to eat well, reduce stress and move our bodies. The most efficient way to move our bodies is through high intensity, low time, interval training. The most efficient form of exercise is

undertaken with a good high intensity interval training program. High intensity equals higher calories burned in a shorter period of time. It is a great way to burn fat and build stamina by improving the cardiovascular system, but still tone and strengthen by building skeletal muscle at the same time. In fact, the higher intensity the exercise, the more energy you use. High intensity exercise is an anaerobic exercise – so lactic acids build up quicker due to intensity creating fatigue in a shorter period of time. The benefit of high intensity exercise is that it can be done anywhere, eg, home, gym, park, etc and only involves anywhere from 10 minutes a day to start, to 30 minutes three times a week maximum. Because it is time efficient, there shouldn’t be any excuses not to exercise. Another benefit is that there is a low risk of injury as exercises can be weight free. There is also an infinite variety of high intensity interval training exercise combinations, ie, weight free, body weight, gym apparatus, boxing,

TRX, kettlebells, running, swimming, etc. So there is no reason for anyone to become bored. Exercises can be modified so people with injuries can still exercise at high intensity. He is convinced people will become more motivated to exercise knowing they can work just as hard and get results with a good 30-minute high intensity program/class as they would running on a treadmill for 90 minutes. here is something so incredibly beautiful about a woman who is cracking open and being called home to her higher self. The vulnerability, the trust, the choice to step up, the YES… accompanied with all of the doubt and fear and the struggle, is like a complete re-birth of self. When the soul calls you home, it’s a beautifully uncomfortable process. And the more you quiet the being and the more you listen and surrender, the more effortless it becomes. You see, authentic alignment will always call you home. It’s just whether you choose to listen to it or not. I feel as women that we are constantly growing and evolving in this space. And then the big shift occurs. The one where we are no longer satisfied to stand still or to accept what we have been tolerating. And then we

to find the gold shift again. And then again. It starts with that anxiety type feeling. Then you get the physical and external symptoms. And the more you tap in, the louder the calling. Until finally, if you choose, you get to the point of total alignment and new beginnings. April last year my soul cracked open and there was no way I could close it off. Even if I wanted to. I went through a break-up yet it was the self-stuff for the first four weeks that was the hardest part. It was the letting go. It was the emotional disturbance. It was the selfdoubt. What was loud and clear though was that it was time for me to change. Time to start putting myself first. Time to start living a life that completely lit me up. Time to begin acting from a space of consciousness, alignment and total love. And that is how ‘Blow Your Own

Beautiful Mind’ was created – as simple and complex as that. It was born from an understanding that many women (and men) struggle to put themselves first in every area of their life. The book was written and the Facebook community was created. The purpose – to teach women the value of choosing themselves first each and every time. Over the past six months, I’ve chosen to go deeper on the mindset work around who am I, what my purpose in life is, what makes me happy and what it is I’m put on this planet to do. I’ve chosen to take all of my lessons and learnings and look at it all head on without judgement and fear and let go of controlling the HOW. I’ve learnt to trust. What lights me up most is now helping others to step in to this space too.

ach New Year is full of freshness, new experiences and creativity. And it can get very busy, very quickly, so it’s also important to leave some time for reflection and rest. Allow me to explain what I mean… I travel a lot all over the world, conducting workshops in different countries. Travelling means new experiences and knowledge and when I come back home, I go into self-imposed seclusion. A clear understanding comes to my mind when I am alone, ‘if you constantly run through life, it is simply impossible to keep up with it’. As soon as I arrive at a place of solitude, I understand that this is the only way where I can find something important, joyful and hear my inner voice. Then I can share all of this with my loved ones, instead of imposing on them my exhaustion, internal stress or lack of attention. Therefore, it is important to give yourself the opportunity to be alone

and do absolutely nothing at least once a year: turn off the phone, computer, TV, and be inactive for some time. It is also desirable to take small breaks every day and also meditate. There are many different meditation types. So let me introduce you to a meditation-concentration on a candle flame. It doesn’t take long, but the benefits of practice will be noticeable: it enhances concentration, calms the mind dialogue, activates the pineal gland, increasing intuition and also may improve vision. So, sit with your spine straight in the lotus position, half lotus or on the edge of a chair. Close your eyes and breathe calmly. Then open your eyes and look at a candle flame for about 15 minutes. Try not to blink or move (even the eyeballs), relax the entire body and eyes. If your eyes get tired, close them for 15-20 seconds, then look at the flame again. Do not let the flame fade. If there are any thoughts, do not fight or resist them, but calmly

ascertain them and release from your mind. At the end of practice, close your eyes for two-three minutes. With your eyes closed, you will see a candle flame. Try to keep it in your inner vision as long as possible. A good sign is if at your field of view, all the surrounding objects disappear, and you see only the candle flame. After the meditation, do not touch your eyes for 30 minutes. Perform this meditation regularly; let it become a new stream of your life. Deep in my heart I know, when I am not rushing, I have more strength for the future and a deeper understanding of what is happening. Science empirically demonstrates that stopping or meditating improves physical and mental health, brings clarity and understanding, and increases mental alertness. Any kind of concentration expands consciousness, and expanded consciousness raises our vibrations and leads us to spiritual growth.

s we women go hurtling into 2017 continuing to juggle a bevy of responsibilities, pressures and priorities, we should be asking ourselves where’s the satisfaction? Yes, we may often need to juggle with the fluidity and skill of a circus performer, be a luminary at work, Nigella Lawson in the kitchen, Serena Williams at the gym and the best darn mum/partner/dog-owner on the block. Who needs sleep, right? So, again, where’s the satisfaction? We’ve heard this question: “Can women have it all?” But maybe the question should be, “Can we have it all without sacrificing our own happiness?” I say, definitely! The goal at the end of our day shouldn’t be work-life balance. It should be work-life-happiness balance. Our day-to-day should not feel like a Black Friday sale; we should have the opportunity to be productive, balanced and blissful. For us busy women, taking time out can feel self-indulgent. I hear women say, “I stopped dreaming for myself.

I’ve been too busy dreaming for and supporting others.” That breaks my heart. A mindset like that leaves us feeling overwhelmed rather than empowered to make decisions about our goals, happiness or life changes. My advice for balancing professional requirements, home responsibilities and happiness needs (yes, needs!) is not better time management; though, that helps. It’s positive thinking. e have this idea that if we are in a relationship, we must sacrifice ourselves in order to prove to our partner that we care. The problem is, it never really works. When we cut off parts of ourselves to be in a relationship, eventually we end up judging ourselves, judging our partners and resenting everything about the relationship. My suggestion to change all of this is simple; create a divorceless relationship with yourself, a relationship that is about you being you.

Here are 3 Tips on How to Be You In Relationship: 1. CARE FOR YOU The idea that we have to sacrifice in order to prove our care has destroyed many relationships. The reality is, when we are fully committed to caring for ourselves, we actually have more

care for others. When we cut off parts of ourselves in an attempt to prove something, resentment takes over. What if everything you did was a kindness to you? What if you made the choice to care for you every single day? What would that create for you? What would that contribute to your partner? 2. DO WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY What do you love to do? Do you love to paint? To hike? To read? Maybe you enjoy dancing. Maybe it’s travel. Whatever brings you joy, do that. Every single day. If you are having fun you will bring that energy into your relationship and it will create something greater for both of you. 3. CHOOSE GRATITUDE FOR YOU When you first began your relationship, it was because your partner fell in love with YOU. s an intuitive healer, one never knows what new and amazing teachings will arise. Each and every client is so unique. I believe the soul guides you, when the time is right to work with a healer. ONE CLIENT’S STORY: Physical concerns – a tennis elbow Healing session – prior to client arriving (spirit gave me this information): There is a little girl in spirit – you have lost a baby. I am given a name – Bronwyn. At the moment your husband

is holding the purse strings – as this is a part of your lives he can control. He feels that he is not good enough and will be left behind. You are so talented with an amazing project on the horizon. The project is very important and it has caused undercurrents for many years with regards to your marriage. Speak your truth with compassion and understanding and invite him on the journey with you. Make him part of it. The right side of the body is about taking action. You take action on so many events in your life but when it is deeply personal – it is a struggle. Your soul knows – and you are currently trapped in fear. Hands-on healing – on arrival (brief summary): A past life was shown – your right arm had been amputated at the elbow for stealing. You were a man in that life. This can be associated with how you feel every time you need money and have to get permission from your husband.

Physical work was done in the etheric field on your body – one area was very prominent – the uterus. You are worried it might be cancer. I am sure you will notice a difference in this part of your body. It has something to do with the blood flow. Client advises at end of session and later: She lost a baby and her own middle name is Bronwyn. Her husband was made redundant and it was a very nasty experience. Unemployed since. She was having tests for bladder cancer and at the age of 60 still on HRT as each time she tried to come off she would continually bleed. I bumped into her a month later and she advised the tests were negative, the elbow felt great and the best thing – the bleeding had totally stopped. I have learnt so much about life and the human psyche. It’s such an honour and privilege to share this information with you all.

humbs up to zero gravity, sensory deprivation floating! About a month ago I saw a promotion advertising a two-hour float at a spa in Melbourne. Influenced by a similar experience I had in Daylesford, I purchased two places for myself and a friend. Two days ago, I went to try out these flotation tanks. I was expecting a pool but it is actually a single person unit where you float alone in complete privacy with no distractions. There is five times as much salt than the ocean in the tank and that is why you don’t sink. As synchronicity played out, I received two separate shocks involving people close to me ten days before the session. In the lead-up to the appointment I was emotional and unable to practise what I preach (as a practitioner) given the closeness of connection. It was important for me to arrive at my philosophical outlook, otherwise I would remain an emotional wreck, supporting no-one.

During the float, as the body literally does not sink, I laid back into the warm salty water until I felt comfortable with the position of my hands, legs, head and shoulders. I reached a very deep state of relaxation and meditative exploration. I was hoping for an epiphany featuring a clear vision or voice telling me what to do next. That did not happen, however I did see a few random images and recent events drifted in and out of my mind as I floated. I asked for a message, one boomed as lyrics from Bob Marley’s ‘Three Little Birds’ played, “every little thing is going to be all right.” I asked for a message for my friend and the lyrics continued with, “don’t worry about a thing.” Perfect timing! When my float time was up, I showered, dressed and made my way to reception to wait for my friend in a daze. My mind was blank – more empty of thought than ever before, my emotions were non-existent, my body

7 simple yet profound steps to be the parent you choose to be. STEP 1 – PAUSE AND BREATHE Pause and breathe – sounds so easy doesn’t it? But in the heat of the moment, when your kids are driving you nuts, it is often the last thing you think of. It is also the last thing you want to do! It is much easier to follow the old knee-jerk reaction and yell, rant and rave or sternly reprimand and withdraw… or whatever your habitual mode of ‘losing it’ may be. By losing it I mean losing loving connection and creating a wedge between you and your child… whatever the reason. It is usually an unconscious reaction that bypasses the thinking mind… after all if you had choice you wouldn’t choose to lose it, would you? The problem is that we don’t always have choice as our own childhood programming dictates how we react

when triggered, whether it’s by our kids, our partner, parents, siblings, colleagues or friends. So next time you are about to ‘lose it’… ‘choose it’ instead. Bring your awareness back to your SELF and pause and breathe. Just the simple act of stopping like this, even for a moment, creates space between you and the triggering event so you can choose another way. When you pause and breathe through difficult moments you will be role modelling to your kids a positive and healthy way of dealing with challenges. This is the budding of emotional intelligence in your children and lays the foundations of resilience and inner calm that will stay with them their whole life. So next time you are triggered – • Be aware it is happening and catch yourself in the act • Choose to pause and breathe • Bring your awareness to your SELF

• Observe the seductive pull to ‘lose it’ • Pause and breathe again If you do ‘lose it’ don’t beat yourself up, but notice the energetic wedge that was created between you and your child. Life is so busy for most of us, especially for parents. If you don’t pause and breathe regularly throughout the day it will be so much harder to pause and breathe in the heat of the moment. So bring it into your day on a regular basis. Enjoy those few lovely relaxing breaths and the peace of slowing down and coming home to your SELF. elf-compassion and self-forgiveness defined by Christine Arylo is, ‘The choice to open your heart and be a loving witness to yourself, without judgement, by sending yourself waves of kindness, understanding, and forgiveness that touch, heal, and transform your imperfections, weaknesses, vulnerabilities and humanness through the presence of your unconditional love.’ Why is it so easy to direct compassion to others but not to ourselves? Our heart can feel the pain of another’s experience, be it a child who is in suffering or a woman in the depths of despair. We instinctively are pulled to try and ease the pain with kindness and gentleness. There is no judgment but only understanding that: this person experiences pain just like us, they are doing the best they can with what they currently know; they are learning lessons just like us and seek happiness just like us. There is no anger or impatience, just gentle, nurturing unconditional love like that of a parent with a child –

knowing that events of failure, mistakes or poor choices that cause pain, are an opportunity for growth. The parent remains fully focussed on seeing the true beauty of the child, viewing the event as separate from the soul. With gentle guided reflection, the parent poses questions such as, ‘Can you remember what was happening before you made this choice? Do you understand how you made this choice? When it all unfolded how were you feeling? What did you learn from this? I understand you were doing the best you could at the time, can you forgive yourself for making this choice? If this were to happen again what choice would you make?’ and reassurance that ‘such events don’t define us, they are just feedback about what we can choose to change’. Very few of us are lucky enough to have experienced this environment in childhood. Perhaps we experienced discipline with no discussion; or told we were not good enough, a failure, a disappointment; and the experience of shame and disapproval from adults

in our life was more the norm. This childhood environment of negative conversations and feelings, becomes our inner dialogue or self-talk. Awareness of this dialog, an understanding that it is not true and an approach to become our own internal unconditional loving parent or our own best friend, will move us to a place of self-compassion and self-forgiveness. We can view the events of the past as lessons from which to grow, rather than from which to define ourselves. We can surround ourselves with others who see the true beauty of our soul and remind us of who we truly are. he beginning of any relationship is always exciting. It can also be a time of feeling very vulnerable and uncertain. There can be a kind of holding back, checking things out, and weighing things up. Some prefer to toe dip, take it bit by bit, easing into things while others just jump right in. Whether you’ve started a new relationship or have been in one for the long term, a more tantric approach can move you through that threshold with more ease. It will transform the experience from nerve wracking to relaxation and one that enhances a deeper connection and love. Tantra has become ever more popular in recent years, however great confusion and misunderstanding prevails as there are many different interpretations. The word itself originates from India’s ancient Sanskrit language and means expansion of energy, expansion of consciousness. At The Making Love Retreat, we view Tantra as essentially

this: the ancient art of awareness (mindfulness) applied to the self and to the body – in daily life, as well as in sex. It’s that simple! What is magical,




s there, indeed should there, be a difference, and are you even curious? The extraordinary Don Tolman is possessed of an uncanny, exquisite and enchanting ability to blur our lines between the magical and the natural; if joining the dots is your “thing”, Cowboy Don may well satiate your wildest curiosities! I was at a 3-day Base Camp for Health on the Gold Coast. A young lady in the audience is (randomly) asked to write 25 completely unrelated words on an A4 sheet of paper. Each word is numbered, and she has been given a blue piece of paper to write on (blue just happens to be Don’s “projected colour” – turns out “we each have our own unique colour”, but that’s another story…). Don is handed the paper. He gazes at it, but for not longer than three seconds. Instantly, the sheet is handed back to a table of “judges” (myself included). Then, Don performs what he describes as a normal “feat of the mind”, which every person in the room is taught

to emulate – he has “photographed” the piece of paper, and then “projects” the image, at a distance, onto a white “screen” (it could even be clouds, but in this case, it’s the back wall of the auditorium). “Distance magnifies our vision”, Don explains. That said, and with his piercing eyes locked, glazed upon the back wall (at least 30 metres away), Don “reads” out loud the entire list of words, flawlessly reciting (“recalling”) every word on that list – forwards, backwards, and randomly! “We call this: Memory at the Speed of Sight!” he solemnly nods and tells the gasping audience. Attendees shake their heads in disbelief. However, as Don explains, “this is a most natural function of our brain’s ability – our ancestors all knew how to do this… and now I’m just trying to bring it back! “We are a book of life, and a book of knowledge, because our bodies (and our brains) contain the records, and the abilities, of all of our ancestors.


“And what a precious thing, to know which plant foods can be used to download the mental software, and activate mental ‘apps’, to where you can see and hear these things…” And when Don talks about the smorgasbord of available and specific foods for the brain/nervous system, coupled with the seductive “Doctrine of Food Signatures”, the magical and natural converge once again. “Pine nuts, for example, will decalcify the pineal gland. Walnuts are ‘brain food’ not only because of their wrinkled brain-like appearance, shells, and two hemispheres, but because of their Omega-3 fat concentration.” In fact, not less than thirteen brain/ nervous system specific plants are catalogued and detailed by Don Tolman in the remediation and integration of structural, functional and degenerative disorders of the brain and nervous system! For all of them, last year was their first Being Woman gathering and the past few months have been a wonderful journey for all of them; a journey into the depth of their hearts. You will meet all “types”, all ages, stages, beliefs, cultures… all that is. The program commences on Friday evening, completing with the closing ceremony on Sunday evening, with the option to stay until Monday morning for the same price (breakfast included). This year Being Woman will be held at Camp Warrawee, Joyner, Qld (just about half an hour north of Brisbane). This venue caters for around 100 guests. Accommodation is bunk bed dorms with possibility of camping. Carpooling/pick-up can be arranged. Being Woman… is a not-for-profit event, run by volunteers, created by women, for women, produced by the ‘Very Good Company’, supported by the Sunshine Coast Council and private donations. This is a nonsmoking, alcohol-free, drug-free and petfree event.

To have positive self-talk we think we need self-love, to have self-love we think we need to use positive self-talk. Maybe there are a few other areas to work on in order to reach the ultimate place of peace and self-love. There is self-discipline, self-care, selftalk, self-control and self-worth, which all can lead to self-love! For me it is self-care. It’s about taking ACTION. When I am following a routine, a ritual or a program, I am so much better at all the other things. When we are doing self care on a daily basis, we think better therefore we talk to ourselves more respectfully and show more care. When we show we care for ourselves, our level of self-worth increases, we actually believe in our potential and know we are capable of striving for more. Even when we fall or are challenged and face hardship, we know self-care supports us to get through. When emotions are high, intelligence is low, a crux to enable us to function and make it through each moment, each day is essential oils. These wonderful gifts from nature are an amazing discipline – they are the ultimate self-care tool. They are the reason I do my own personal daily rituals like spritzing, using a vaporiser, a drop every morning for my daily WOD (Workout Of the Day) and in my daily body boost ritual.

The body boost is the ultimate way of saying thanks to my mind for everything it dishes out – good and not so good – and thanks to my body for all it gives to me! would like to address some important areas of pet health care this year, to get your pets started on the right paw forward. Two things have been ingrained in the teaching of veterinarians for years: 1. Dogs should eat dog food; and 2. Dogs should be vaccinated yearly for every disease imaginable. Hopefully, we have dispelled the myth for the former; that is, dogs should eat good food, not necessarily dog food. If we place food for dogs on a scale of 1 to 10, then balanced, home-prepared food rates a 10, since you can use fresh, choice ingredients. Highly processed food, like hamburgers, French fries and TV dinners (which some owners eat), probably only rates a 1 for dogs. Good commercial dog food rates a 6-7, without other additions. Currently, we recognise that dogs probably are over-vaccinated and there is mounting evidence that these vaccinations may play a role in the increasing incidence of auto-immune diseases and even cancers that we see today. Fortunately, past the puppy shot, we can test for antibodies to see if there is

a real need for vaccination, and yearly boosters for all infectious diseases is overkill. Clearly, in many cases, the vaccinations are not necessary and giving them may cause problems. The risks of not giving vaccinations (once the healthy young dog has been adequately immunised) is becoming less than the risk of giving them. Intranasal vaccination for kennel cough is much preferable compared to an ineffective and adverse reaction leading to Bordetella injection, and may provide longer immunity. No one wants their pet to contract a preventable disease, yet most healthy animals do not need vaccination as often as is currently practised. Immuno-deficient animals may not respond adequately regardless of the vaccination schedule. Discuss these options with your veterinarian and make an informed choice about vaccination. Hopefully, your veterinarian will have thought and has struggled with these issues and be able to support your decision about your pet’s health. Just because you fluffy friends do not need yearly vaccinations, they should still have a yearly check-up by your veterinarian! Our veterinarians have

he old world concept is that we are simply a physical being experiencing a three dimensional physical space and bobbing along experiencing random events, simply being at the mercy of these events. The truth of the matter could not be further away. In fact if we were to take all the space out of the matter, what is left would be approximately 1 gram of matter. To balance the matter there is approximately 1 gram of anti-matter organised in 3 dimensions of time. Thus we are simply energy arranged in six dimensions of our specific individual field of energy experiencing a physical dimension. How we experience this physical dimension is not a random event but more about how our energy is in a negative discharging state or in a positive charging state. The state we choose to live in, then affects those around us including our partners, children and our animals. My role is to heal the animals. The default state of the physical body and the mind is the negative discharging state. The default state of the soul is the positive charging state. The negative discharging state is associated with the

lower states of consciousness: shame, guilt, apathy, grief, fear, desire, anger and pride. All illnesses are associated with these lower states of consciousness. I have studied the physics of magnetic fields and discovered the essential facts to uncover the mysteries of the mind and the body to help you link with your soul. The good news: I have created a device (TC) and music recorded through the device (Sound Files – App) to help
