Gluten, wheat, dairy, soy, nut free and can be egg free Ingredients: 1½ cups (120g) desiccated coconut 1 cup (140g) sorghum flour or white rice flour 1 cup (180g) potato starch 1½ cups (230g) coconut sugar or rapadura (or sugar of choice) 3 tsp gluten free baking powder 1½ tsp xanthan gum or guar gum ¼ tsp salt 1 tsp cinnamon 1 tsp ginger (dry, not fresh) ½ tsp nutmeg ½ tsp mixed spice ¼ cup (55g) melted coconut oil 2 eggs OR 2 tbsp white chia seeds soaked for 5 minutes in 120ml filtered water 1 cup (250ml) milk – I used oat milk which is not gluten free but any safe milk will be fine 150g gluten free icing sugar 75g approx Nuttelex Gingerbread men to decorate (buy some or find a gluten free recipe at www.happytummies.com.au)

Method: • Heat oven to 170°C • Prepare cupcake tin with baking cups • Put all dry ingredients in a food processor and blitz for about 30 seconds until the coconut is fine like flour • Add all of the wet ingredients and mix until well combined • Place evenly in cupcake pans – I use an ice-cream scoop so they are even • Place in oven for approximately 20 minutes • Meanwhile make icing by combining the Nuttelex and icing sugar

• Remove cakes from the oven and rest for 5 minutes • Remove cakes from pan and leave to cool on a wire rack before icing • Ice each one and top with a gingerbread man for a festive ginger cupcake! Makes enough for 4 or 2 super hungry people Ingredients: 2 small onions (diced) 4 cloves of garlic (diced) 3cm ginger (grated) 3cm turmeric (grated) 1 chilli (finely chopped) 1 tsp cinnamon powder Pinch cardamon Pinch nutmeg 1 tbsp coconut sugar or 1 small apple grated 1 tsp pepper 1 tbsp sea salt 2 heads of broccoli (chopped into chunky pieces) 1 medium sized eggplant 500g of sweet potato (chopped into bite size cubes) 1 can of coconut cream 2 cups of filtered clean water 1 bunch of coriander or parsley chopped

Method: Put 3 tablespoons of coconut oil in a frying pan and on high fry your onions, garlic, ginger, turmeric, chilli, all spices, apple or coconut sugar, salt and pepper for 2 minutes or until the onions are golden brown. Add your sweet potato and eggplant and fry for another 2 minutes. Then add 2 cups of filtered water and cook covered on medium heat for 30 minutes, add 1 more cup of water if needed. Add the broccoli and 1 can of coconut cream and cook for another 15 minutes on low heat. Tips: Before serving any curry, I like to blend 1 cup of the entire curry in my blender or food processor then stir it through the curry to make the curry extra thick and creamy!! Top with some of your favourite

chutney, organic coconut yoghurt, macro greens, and some activated nuts and seeds. We like to serve this meal in the cafe with our raw dehydrated chia seed crackers. I hope you enjoy this delicious recipe just as much as we do. – Ben and Sarah xx www.newearthcafe.com.au

Munch on these Healthy Fruit Mince Pies this Christmas! Impress your family by making these easy and tasty treats perfect for the Christmas table! Servings: 16 fruit mince pies Ingredients: FILLING 1 cup sultanas ½ cup dates chopped and seeds removed ¼ cup prunes pitted and chopped 1 cup mango chopped 1 tsp lemon rind 1 tsp orange rind ½ cup shredded coconut 1 tsp grated ginger 1 tsp ground cinnamon 1 tsp vanilla paste 2 buds of star anise ¼ cup filtered water PASTRY 1 cup cashews ground ½ cup all purpose flour 1 tsp ground cinnamon 1 tsp lemon rind

Pinch of salt ½ tsp vanilla extract or a generous pinch of ground vanilla 2 tbsp maple syrup or agave nectar 1 tbsp water Method: FOR THE FILLING 1. Put all the ingredients for the filling into a bowl and mix well. Ideally do this a few days before to let the flavours infuse. FOR THE PASTRY 1. Add the ground cashews, flour, cinnamon, lemon rind and salt into a bowl. Mix well, then add the vanilla extract, maple syrup and water. Knead well until it forms a dough. On a flat surface sprinkle a bit of flour and roll out the dough with a rolling pin. Cut the dough into rounds with a cookie cutter (or the top of a glass works well too!), big enough to fit inside a patty pan tin. Bake blind for around 5 minutes or until slightly golden. 2. Scoop about a tablespoon of the filling (watch out for the star anise –0 try

Tis the time of year that most of us will overindulge in holiday cheer, but it doesn’t mean you need to suffer the consequences. Follow these easy health hacks to have your (Christmas) cake and eat it too! Supercharge your digestion Most people don’t have enough digestive enzymes in their gut to process the richer food we indulge in over the holidays, which causes bloating, pain and reflux. Digestive enzymes can help break down gluten, casein and soy in the gut. By having a digestive enzyme supplement on hand, if you do consume foods that you’d normally avoid, you can take them and the uncomfortable symptoms will be reduced. Something fishy in your drink For a moment let’s ignore the alcohol and sugar content of your Christmas and New Year’s drinks – we already know that booze wreaks havoc on your digestive system. Creates 15 to 18 raw bliss balls Ingredients: ½ cup raw hemp hearts (seeds) ½ cup raw unsalted walnut pieces ½ cup raw cacao powder ¼ tsp fine sea salt 24 pitted dates roughly chopped 1 tsp vanilla extract Method: Reserve 2 tablespoons of the hemp

seeds in a small bowl. Combine the remaining hemp seeds, walnuts, cacao powder and salt in a food processor; pulse for 10 seconds to create a fairly finely ground mixture. Add half the dates and all of the vanilla extract. Grind/puree for about 15 seconds then add the remaining dates and grind/puree for 15 seconds or until fairly smooth. Transfer to a mixing bowl. Use your clean hands to form 15 to 18 balls. Roll each ball in the reserved hemp seeds so it’s either half covered or fully

covered depending on your preference. Arrange the balls in a container as you work. They can be served right away, however are best when refrigerated for 1 to 2 hours before serving. ome may say the word ‘merry’ is overused or even a misnomer at this time of the year! How can we be merry when there are so many suffering around the world and the silly season is upon us? Well, you only need to spend a few minutes with Carla and Emma Papas, AKA Merrymaker Sisters, to know deep within your being, that it’s actually more important than ever, to ‘be the joy’ and share as much of this with the world as possible. Like a breath of fresh air… these effervescent sisters are bringing about the revival of merry. So their merrymaker journey began about five years ago when they became disillusioned with trying to climb the corporate ladder and instead of signing up for a lifetime subscription of yo-yo dieting, self-judgement and stress, they

started to wonder if there were easier ways to be happy and healthy. They stumbled on the concept of ‘real food living’ followed by some paleo recipes which got their gastric and creative juices flowing! Then they started experimenting in the kitchen (bouncing ideas off each other), and found inspiration in every nook whenever they ventured out into the world. They came across the work of the late Joseph Campbell and his ‘follow your bliss’ message strongly resonated with them and they started to imagine ‘living the dream’ in all aspects of their lives. Two years later in early 2014, they started building their Merrymaker brand while still working full-time in corporate land. All the while, they were researching and casting the net wide as they embarked on their exciting new career and lifestyle journey. The sisters turned to Mr Google and typed in ‘what is a

blog?’ and ‘how to start a blog?’ to the search engine and continually educated themselves, becoming blogging and online maestros. They began to ‘road test’ things along the way, sharing their experiences as a way to make it easier for others AND… just because it brought them joy to share! Quite quickly, a magical journey unfolded which was conceived from their creative talents and their enthusiasm with sharing the things that lit them up. They began to travel the world, becoming famous for their merriment and things like turning old junk food favourites like ‘The Mars Bar’ or ‘Golden Gaytime’ into healthy, whole food versions to make the taste buds tingle with delight! Emma said, “I had always enjoyed baking and making things like cookies and cakes and Carla had always enjoyed eating them (they laughed). So we decided to turn one of our passions into

a healthy hobby.” The joy and creativity with which they began sharing their blogs and posts was infectious and started to create a following which allowed them to walk away from their full-time jobs in mid-2014. Now they have a combined audience of 1.5 million people from their blog, app, podcast, books and social media sites and this year they released their healthy cookbook ‘Get Merry’. The girls have a simple yet effective recipe for success… tune in to yourself and see if what’s on offer, feels fun and aligned (whether it’s a project, an invitation to an event or a new practice), then go for it! One of their latest passions is creating live podcasts from their home base and learning from the people they interview! And they love speaking at events and are excited to have their work published in a variety of well-known magazines. Creating a happy, home life is a high priority for Emma and Carla and a few months ago they moved in with their two best friends and it definitely sounds like they have created the house of Merryville! They said their morning ritual includes a chai or coffee and sometimes a healthy brownie at one of their favourite local cafes. They live and work in a way they described as ‘random’ in that it is a constant living, breathing creation. It basically boils down to… following their bliss in each moment!! An added bonus of their merrymaker career/lifestyle, is that their health improved! But they don’t advocate a ‘one approach suits all’, so whether you take a vegan, paleo, or other approach, they believe it’s more about keeping it real and simple. And it’s not all about the food! They

became aware of how our self-talk can ‘make or break us’ and so they share their mind-set tips along with their recipes and latest news. In fact, Emma and Carla are on a mission to encourage people to be kind to themselves, rather than constantly judge their bodies and obsess about counting calories. And they haven’t boxed themselves into just the ‘wholefoods and mindset’ genres either, they also discovered the world of Pilates and yoga and understand how these practices align with everything else they are creating. They love the mind, body and spirit connection! But they did point out they don’t have a set spiritual or religious path, they say being kind, practising yoga/Pilates and being in nature in their spare time, is what assists in remembering their true selves. And for extra inspiration they regard visionaries like Oprah (whom they regularly listen to via her podcasts), and author Paul Coelho (whom they quote on a daily basis), as their mentors and catalysts for their creativity and growth. “If there is someone on the planet doing extraordinary things then that is inspiration that it is possible for us all to aspire to and create that,” said Emma. So what’s next for Emma and Carla and where do they see Merrymaker Sisters in five years’ time? “We’re not so big on five-year plans! We do however have a one-year plan! You’ll see Merrymaker Sisters reach even more international audiences, we’ll be bringing in a new aspect of Merry, that will help women overcome negative body image issues (something we’ve both personally struggled with for many, many years) so they can live their most magical life possible,” they said. through inner peace

any years ago I had a vision. It was a vision of a world where war no longer existed. A world of peace and compassion where every man, woman and child was fed, clothed, housed and cared for. You might call it a utopian pipedream but it was very real for me that day as All-That-Is the non-physical guidance team I communicate with every day delivered it to me through my inner vision. I was even given a hint of a timeline that stretched hundreds of years into the future. Today I’m told the timeline has collapsed a little and it will come earlier and so I’d like to invite you to join me in cultivating inner peace. It is through coming to peace within ourselves individually that we collectively create outer peace – peace on Earth. This is my daily practice to bring the vibration of peace into my physical body so that I might become peaceful within. As I achieve inner peace, my

vision of world peace starts to become clearer and closer. THE PRACTICE 1. Slowly and deeply breathe in through your nose. 2. Slowly breathe out through your mouth and as you do so say quietly to yourself “Let there be peace in the world”. 3. Slowly and deeply breathe in through your nose and say “and let it start with me” as you follow the flow of your in-breath into your heart space. To make it easier to bring your attention to your heart space, you can place and keep your hand over the area. 4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 in turn for up to 10 minutes. Peace, according to the ‘Map of Consciousness’ created by David R Hawkins MD, PhD calibrates at 600 where the good of mankind and the search for enlightenment are the primary goals. When this state is reached, the distinction between subject and object disappears, and there is no specific

focal point of perception. We slip into oneness and from this place there is no desire to harm another and great passion to ensure all others are cared for. At this level, competition is released while cooperation and collaboration are enhanced. In this energy you can do no harm, to self or others, as harming self will also harm the other. I myself experienced a complete knowing that to even lightly pinch myself would harm another when in this state of peacefulness. Imagine if you and everyone else who reads this article takes on this daily practice. How to BALANCE the ENERGIES for the festive season WORDS AMANDA MACKAY


hristmas and the New Year are a great time to reflect on the past year, plan new adventures and consider all the possibilities coming your way. So how do you transition through this time and create the space for fresh energy and enthusiasm, when the past months haven’t stacked up as you’d hoped? Were your expectations askew? Did you get distracted or did those responsibilities just pile higher and higher? The important thing here is not to feel guilt or lay blame, life seldom moves in the way we’d like it to. Get a pen and paper, write down what you’d like to achieve, why you want it and a few ideas on how to progress toward fulfilling this desire. On another sheet, list the disappointments, unachieved tasks or projects of the current year; okay easy part done. Let’s set some intention and balance the energy with space clearing. How you may ask? If you have a pendulum, dig it out,

if not, tie a key to the end of a string, it doesn’t have to be fancy it just needs to swing! Hold the string between two fingers and gently allow it to fall out of the palm of your hand so it’s dangling. Next request your pendulum to move in a direction to show a ‘yes’ answer, once you’ve done this, ask it to show a ‘no’ answer, this will either be a circle in one direction and then another or a circle for one and a line for the other. Okay ready to do some energy clearing? Firstly, take the paper listing the current year, hold the pendulum over the paper and with purpose, ask your guides or universal energy to clear stagnant attached emotion from the last 12 months. This may take a little while and that’s okay, you’ll notice the swing will change when there’s balance. You can also write the names of people in your life, work situations, anything really where you’d like more connection, clarity or fulfilment. It doesn’t mean you’ll eradicate all challenges from your

Now on to the New Year, once again, this is not a guarantee for outcomes but an opportunity to articulate and define your needs, make adjustments and begin the next calendar with focused, decisive commitment. Allow the pendulum to communicate a shift in the flow of energy. There is a temptation to ask the pendulum questions. The interesting curiosity here is the subconscious mind is so strong it can manipulate the divination piece to the answers we most want, therefore I’d suggest stick to space clearing, allowing the universe to deliver its gifts, remembering sometimes they’re wrapped a little differently and come along in unexpected ways. t’s called ‘the silly season’ for a reason. Not only are people tired as the year winds to a close, but demands are increased to tie up loose ends at work or at school. Social engagements are plentiful and pressing, finances become strained and we are supposed to meet all of this with a smile on our face. This time – more than any other – is when people seek out counselling and psychology support. Finding a way of managing gracefully is important if we want to avoid being collapsed in a heap – in a state of overwhelm and burn-out – after Christmas. The following 5-point plan could help you get through the festive season in good shape. 1. Have Clarity. Set your feeling intentions (eg. ‘have fun and be relaxed’) and your goals (be specific, eg. ‘$50 on each Christmas present’) – and ensure that your intentions and goals are in alignment with your values (eg. “I’ll choose environmentally sustainable

gifts.”). Being in alignment like this is energising and makes decision-making easier. 2. Create A Strong Daily Self-Care Routine. Maintaining performance standards under stress depends on continuing our usual daily routines. Self-care includes the basics – good food, water, sunshine, exercise and sleep. This better ensures you sustain your energy levels while meeting the many unusual demands that Christmas brings. 3. Stay Grounded. Literally take off your shoes and place your feet on the earth. This helps to discharge the build-up of free radicals and electricity from the body. It also mindfully focuses your attention on your immediate environment – it is like doing a sensory feedback report (what can you see, touch, smell, taste and hear?). This will help you stay in the present. 4. Manage Transitions. During this time of year, we are expected to transition from many different activities

throughout our day. Take a minute before entering into the new phase by pausing, telling yourself to release the previous phase (eg. work) several times repeatedly and then take a moment to visualise the next phase (eg. home), including how you want to feel and behave. This will help to increase your performance and attention during each phase. 5. Honour Your Intuition. We spend so much time stuck in our heads that we forget to tune into the wisdom of our gut. Our intuition is guided by our gut feelings. If something does not FEEL right, listen to that instinct because it is being guided by something beyond our conscious awareness. Imagine yourself moving with ease and grace through the course of each day, effortlessly engaging in the challenges that arise. HB: What can people do to stop festive overspending and subsequent ‘New Year’s slump’? Dain: It requires some planning and looking at how much money you can spend this year. Set a budget, then divide that budget up based on: who you have to buy for, and what you need to put into that in order to get that person a gift. And, it doesn’t always have to be about the gifts. What if you could write to people about the gratitude you have for them. That could be an even greater gift! If you have a family get-together, maybe the adults could agree to just get the children gifts. That can make it a lot easier. Another thing you could do is make an agreement with friends and family and let them know if it’s been a tough year or you’re short on funds, and just ask if this year you could all skip gift giving. HB: What are your views about ‘bartering’ and ‘energy exchanges’? Dain: Your point of view creates your reality, so if your point of view is, the only way you can have something is by bartering or an energy exchange, then you’re going to create that as your world. If your point of view is, “I don’t care how much it costs, I will eventually find a way to afford it, even if I have to put it on lay-by,” then that’s what becomes your reality. Recognise that many times people who rely mostly on bartering or energy exchanges, often are not willing to have money. That is something you want to change. HB: What would you like to share with our readers about what you have learned about money that might change the way they view it? Dain: There’s no such thing as a money issue, there’s only an issue in what you’re willing to receive. So, it’s our unwillingness to receive that creates our money issues. Changing our money situation is really more about changing our willingness to receive everything, including money. In order to change your money situation, you need to change your point of view about money. It’s also important to recognise that people who don’t have very much money, actually don’t like money. In fact, I’d go as far as to say they hate it, because they see it being the cause of the world’s ills.

You know the old saying, “the love of money is the root of all evil”, it’s actually referring to how the love of money over others, or over oneself or over your very being, is what is called “the root of all evil”. So given that we’ve all grown up with that, we have this love/hate relationship with money. This is one of the greatest difficulties in us having it because, if you hate something, how much of it are you willing to have? Not very much usually. HB: What tips do you have to assist people to generate more money for the year ahead? Dain: The greatest gift you can give yourself is to learn to actually love money. Ask yourself, “if I truly loved money, what would I choose?” It may confuse you for awhile, but if you keep asking the question and get to an awareness that there’s a different way that you can be with money, then you stop resenting money or believing that it is a bad thing. When I first started using the tools of Access Consciousness, my friend and founder of the organisation, Gary Douglas, said to me, “the purpose of money is to change people’s realities for the greater”. That was the first time I’d ever heard anyone talk about money in a way that made me want to have it. So, what if you recognise that the purpose of money is to change people’s realities for the greater? If you’re someone who desires to create a greater

reality and a greater world for everyone, then my question is, can you do it more effectively and easier with money, or without money? If you recognise the answer is with money, then if you truly want to create the change you desire in the world, it is incumbent upon you to have the money to do it. HB: What do you see as the differences between having wealth and having riches? Dain: Someone who is rich, has an identity defined by their money. Someone who is wealthy, can be them no matter how much money they have. For example, a rich person, has to drive in the nicest vehicle all the time, they can’t climb into a taxi because it’s beneath their image. So people who function from being rich, have an image to uphold. People who are truly wealthy, choose without it being about the money. A great tool you want to ask is, “if this had nothing to do with money, what would I choose?” What you’ll do is start to get the awareness that a lot of your points of view on what is valuable, have been about how much it costs, or the idea that you can’t afford it. A good exercise is to go to the highest-end store in town; the place you’ve always wanted to shop at but felt intimidated to go there. Walk through that store, from the awareness that you could have anything in there if you truly

desired it, and then look at what you truly desire. Most of our sense of value with regard to things that we would like, is based on the idea that we can’t have it because we can’t afford it. If you start to recognise, it’s not about whether you can afford it or not, it’s about whether you would actually like to have it. Then your life becomes about what you would like to have, not about the money you have that will allow you to buy it right now or not. s 2017 draws to an end, it may be time to take stock of your year. Take time to review your choices and how they panned out for you, reflect over your achievements as well as your losses and allow clarity around any life changing realisations to emerge naturally from a place of inner silence. Life moves fast and we become absorbed in the moment, which is a good thing. Yet taking silent time and space to tune into our inner being with reflection, can help inner-wisdom to emerge. This can naturally lead us from reacting to life, to clear wise mindful action; flowing with life. I often hear from clients that they feel as if they are always busy, rushing on to the next item on their agenda. They feel a lack of personal space and often suffer from feelings of overwhelm. Busyness is a modern-day addiction which springs from a fear of stillness. Yet daily physical and mental cluttering keeps us from connecting with the


in the silence of being

innate wisdom and the peace that is ever available to us. In the words of Mahatma Gandhi. “The Divine Radio is always singing if we could only make ourselves ready to listen to it, but it is impossible to listen without silence.” Silence is golden and in taking time for silent reflection, inquiry and inner stillness, we will be guided very clearly, moment by moment. I just returned from a European tour where I was teaching non-dual philosophy and singing songs and mantras of love and oneness. Being on tour is demanding, moving from country to country, speaking with hundreds of people about life, love and why people suffer. Coming home to my green patch on the Sunshine Coast is always a blessing as I take time to wander along the beach, walk in the rainforest and sit on the deck in stillness and silence. In this silent communion with nature and oneness of being, deep insights arise.

There need not be any method, simply an availability to the stillness born of the moment. If this is a new concept for you, go gently, the mind can be fickle, allow the body and mind to settle into stillness without any expectation of achieving anything or going anywhere. Be available to the moment and let that moment expand. If the mind wanders, be aware of that without jumping on, and looping with any thought carriages on the train. he festive season is here and so is the stress associated with this time of the year. It’s no wonder people can feel frazzled with all of the chores that surround the magic of the season: shopping for and wrapping presents, baking biscuits and other sweet treats, cleaning, party planning, entertaining, and more. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, the good news is that you’re not alone. The first step is to recognise that you’re feeling overwhelmed. Once you do that, you can use strategies to tackle that feeling before anything spirals out of control. Whether you’re struggling with family dynamics, a tight budget, or high expectations, there are a few tips and tricks that can help put the joy back into this joyous season. 1. TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF Caring for your body will keep your energy and spirits up. This tip breaks down into four categories: food, water, exercise, and sleep. Eating healthy

It can be that simple. With a few strategies in place, you can take back control over Christmas and avoid getting overwhelmed, so that it can be a happy, joyous time!

But then a month later I received a call from her, asking if I would co-write with her. We were both astounded when I told her I already had the chapters and layout! HB: Can you please give our readers a sneak peek of what your book will be about and how they can benefit. olidays are often a time when we feel most alone; our ‘shoulds’ kick into overdrive and the expectations we have of ourselves and others skyrocket. As our ‘to do’ lists increase, our joy and self-connection decrease. We yearn for the perfect holiday and believe that if we pull it off, we will finally be ‘enough’. Letting go and




his is a pretty important aspect of manifesting our dreams into reality and when we recognise that we are connected to all things – we can realise that the support on our journey of life is rather great… perhaps even profound! Here we are at what many see as a pinnacle of change, and so many of us are tuning into what’s in our heart space, and what we are wanting to create, piecing together our New Year’s resolutions or manifestation lists. When we manifest in alignment with our soul’s purpose – our divine timings, we can achieve so much more, our soul absolutely loves it. It’s important to remember that once those lists have gone out to the universe and ‘All That Is’, energy is in motion. Once in motion, always in motion. If we wrote a list last year, we can take a moment to think back to what was on that list and see how many things actualised. Did they eventuate? Or did we block

them – or stop them from happening? (It may also be that they are yet to happen). Now the reason I am asking this is to prepare for the year ahead, so that we can feel more comfortable with the process of accepting and surrendering… How often do we get stuck in our comfort zone? And when ‘opportunities’ arise to become or create in alignment with that which we requested, we aren’t seeing the bigger picture – and that the opportunity (be it a person, circumstance, change in location, job etc) is simply a step in the direction of our dreams. Unfortunately it may mean that the very thing we are wanting, we unintentionally create a resistance to. Recognise when changes are happening, it may be because we have been asking for this. When we don’t hold on so tightly (as to how things are to come together), we leave space for the divine to serve us – to surprise

us, things flow together with a natural rhythm. It may also be that we require certain virtues to be prepared for that which we are asking, which may mean ‘learning’. That gem may be exactly what we need to take us to the next level. That next big opportunity or advancement. When we appreciate our path, even if it isn’t fully making sense in the moment, and make the best of it – we stop rejecting ourselves. t was late on a Friday night and the frustration was back again! My husband and I had been in this cycle for quite some time where life was blissfully happy, but then we would reach a roadblock! It was like a memory from my childhood, where I used to love riding my pink bike down the really steep hill, the wind in my hair, the sun on my skin, the exhilaration of freedom, no brakes and then suddenly I would reach the bottom of the hill and everything plateaued! I was too aware, not to know that something needed to change and that not listening to our emotions, would be like not watering our much-loved herbs for a month! My husband and I leaned into our emotions and the awareness that opened up as a result was to live separately for a month! I would love to think that we were very cool, calm and

collected, however there was resistance and not just a little bit! Who was I going to call out for if there was a particularly, messy, smelly nappy to clean from our son?! My husband decided to book a secluded camping spot for the month and our hearts opened up to the possibility of what would unfold! He made a choice to remove all distractions (Facebook etc) and eat a plant-based diet for the month. What unfolded was beyond what we could have imagined! The gift of space, really enabled us both to connect even more deeply with our higher selves! I received a huge surprise the second week in when a text from my husband said, ‘Letter of Resignation sent’ to school! He had made the choice to resign and heed Helen Keller’s wise words, “Life’s either a daring adventure or nothing”!

My month gave me a lot of growth in that I opened up my creativity more than ever before and of course grew an even greater respect for the amazing, single parents out there! The greatest gift of all though was space – that is what enabled us to independently delve deeply into ourselves and open up to an even far greater possibility – that we could love each other and ourselves even more deeply. s I transition from one year into the next, I generally look back at what stood out most for me. Here is what I found (again, I might add): • Circumstances change, for better and worse, without my active input • Moods and emotions change for better and worse, without my active input • The level of control I REALLY have over my life, is shockingly low I long held the idea that I was in control of my destiny; that I could change my emotions, moods and circumstances by sheer thought and willpower alone. Thoughts dictate emotions, and the two together allow me to control my circumstances. Right? Well, to a degree. There absolutely is power in – what I call – ‘casting out a line’ and creating a desired future, professionally and personally. Smart goal setting works. Business empires and successful personal lives are built on strategic visioning and actively pursuing goals. On the other hand, ‘stuff’ still happens; circumstances still change; moods and emotions still swing and

the unexpected still catches us, unexpectedly. One of my greatest lessons for 2017 was to focus on what I CAN control, and let go of what I can NOT control. Stephen Covey wrote about the ‘circle of concern’ versus the ‘circle of influence’ in 1992 already, and this is still a very current topic. Work in, and expand, your circle of influence. Stay away from spending too much time, energy and money on your circle of concern. A similar lesson was the observation that circumstances do not affect my mood as much as I thought they did. There were ‘bad’ times when – strangely – I felt quite ok, and ‘good’ times where I felt awful. There seemed to be little correlation between how I felt and what was happening. So, if it is correct that we only have SO much control over our lives; that our feelings run away with us regardless of circumstance; and that unexpected events still happen, regardless of our goals, what is it we can do to stay as optimistic, positively focused and happy

as possible amidst all this? Well, neuroscience research, mindfulness-based modalities and many self-help mentors suggest that the first item to work on is ‘acceptance of what is’. When we can accept that our moods, emotions, thoughts, bodily circumstances and life circumstances are what they are, right here, right now, we can work on changing them. Fighting the current is exhausting and ineffective. In simple terms: resistance is futile. In psychology this is called ‘radical acceptance’. Radical acceptance is an ACTIVE practice that requires a fair bit of willpower and deliberate input of time and energy. The return on investment is seriously high, though. I know this from personal experience and client reports. My wish for you: make 2018 the ‘year of surrendering to what is’, working only on what you CAN influence. hat really is forgiveness? And does the forgiving empower us? Or does it potentially lock us into repeated negative cycles? So many of us forgive, yet refuse to forget. Forgiving someone implies that in some way we have power over another, that in some way judgment and resentment stick to us, even when it is their ‘stuff’, not ours. Likewise, we have no right to imply our judgment on others, these emotions are ours to deal with. We each have the right to create our own happiness, or otherwise. Sometimes, understanding is not possible. Always, it is what it is. Always, the key to future positive growth is leaving the past behind. In many cases the past is still running people’s reactions years after the event, which makes no sense at all when they have changed every cell in their body in the interim, and their soul and spirit are

supposedly enlightened. This is where a Holographic Kinetics clearing is so helpful. One recent client had been estranged from his daughter for many years, with endless counselling for him to try to cope with the daily pain of her judgments and her only returning his calls when she wanted something. A few days after his session with me, he rang again for her birthday, again it went to the message bank, but this time, it was different for him. bringing the happy times forward, into his now. But what to do in the moment? The key to forgiveness is very simple. Forgive yourself for your part in the event… and then forgive those who have hurt you… by simply accepting… it is what it is… and moving forward. Yes, there is pain that goes with so many of these situations, but it is the individual’s responsibility to deal with their own pain, to choose how they move forward, or not. If they choose to stay in anger/blame/judgment, they will assuredly find the situation re-emerging in different aspects of their life, with the message coming through stronger and stronger each time, until the lesson is learnt… The choice is ours. n traditional cultures, there are special occasions where people gather to celebrate. And there can be many reasons including religious events or the change of seasons, to mention just a few. Normally there are special foods used to nourish, and make people stronger and healthier. In times of celebration, the preparation of food is critical, where everyone comes together as one. As a Spaniard, it is tradition to do the killing of pigs, lambs, goats etc. Every part of the body is used, including organ meats. These are the more nutrient dense foods, packed with vitamins, minerals and protein; the building blocks that helps to restore the health in your body. The older generations, always mentioned offal as a food that they used to eat. But this does not seem to be included or mentioned in many modern cultures. In my travels, I have had the unique experience of meeting the Korowai People, who live in the jungles of West Papua. I was lucky enough to attend

a feast in the middle of the jungle where different clans came together to celebrate the new season with Sego grubs. Everyone was busy doing something: preparing the fire, cooking Sego, roasting grubs, talking, chanting and dancing. As a doctor, I see many patients getting sick from mineral and vitamin deficiencies, related to not having enough of these real foods or eating processed foods that deplete their bodies of them. Sugar is one of the culprits. During Christmas, people tend to overeat, overindulge and undo the work that they have been doing during the year to get healthier. They enter the New Year with a feeling of sickness and guilt. This is one of my busiest times when I see people affected physically and mentally. Children come in with infections and with their immune system suppressed from excess sugar. Adults feel depressed and anxious. Let’s do these festivities in a way

where we are celebrating getting healthier and happier, getting together with family and friends and not selfsabotaging. here’s a definite skill required when opening presents from family members on Christmas Day; a skill that involves GRACE; an ability to be cool, to express gratitude and appreciation despite feeling intense disappointment. As adults we hope to have mastered accepting crappy gifts from loved ones with finesse, yet on occasions something goes wrong, we unintentionally forget to be polite or we regress into our inner child. A great example of disgrace was me opening a present from my then husband on Christmas Day with my kids and family. There I was feeling great anticipation as I excitedly opened the nicely wrapped present, when suddenly those warm and fuzzy emotions rapidly evaporated into feelings of frustration and anger…‘WTF’ were my thoughts before tossing the DVD ‘Salt’ starring Angelina Jolie across the carpet, stomping into the bathroom, before returning to sit cross armed and legged, sulking like a fiveyear-old under the Christmas tree. DO NOT DO THIS… EVER! The very next Christmas one of my sons, repeated the whole dramatic scenario in almost exactly the same sequence; opened gift, tossed gift onto carpet, stomped around the room and sulked like a baby. created for people to overindulge in consumable items that are either a total waste of money and/or stuff that is simply not needed. We buy into the myth that we HAVE to buy expensive gifts for family and friends, even if we don’t have the money to spend. This counterintuitive demand can have side effects. The people pleaser will waste time and money spending hours debating the perfect gift, the procrastinator will leave it until the last minute and over compensate by buying an OTT gift, the passive aggressive person will buy something faulty and the narcissist will buy you something for themselves. You want to pray your loved one is an empath and/or highly intuitive, then you just might get something meaningful. was a very expensive JBL portable speaker that cost his grandad $250, resulting in pissed-off grandparents as I cringed in shame knowing that I had taught my son these very inappropriate emotional reactions and unappreciative behaviours. I then spent two hours giving my twin boys a lesson on ‘gratitude’, one that I obviously needed to learn myself. Yes there is a definite artful grace to opening presents from loved ones on perhaps one of the most stressful days of the entire year. My inappropriate over-reactive, embarrassing behaviour was a reflection of my stress that day, a ‘valve’ for my Pandora’s box brimming with pent-up Christmas pressure, plus a lifetime of repressed negative emotions desperate for expression. That DVD scenario was symbolic of my marital disharmony at the time. Anyone who knew me back then, knew my opinions on Angelina Jolie. But what did my then hubby do? Of all the DVDs on sale on Christmas Eve, he buys me ‘Salt’, a DVD that stars a woman I dislike in a movie I will never watch, why? Because he fancied her, HE wanted to watch the movie ‘Salt’. The gift then was for himself. This brings me to the psychology of giving ‘gifts’. Maybe I have a hangup now, but I see December 25th as a ‘show day’; an over-hyped event,

s we all know, self-love is the root from which everything grows. You cannot love someone else until you love yourself. write about this topic quite regularly, and that’s because I have experienced firsthand, just how powerful writing truly is. Not only have I used writing over the years to heal myself, but I have helped many others to do the same, so I know it to be true. Interestingly enough, writing about my own journey was how my career as an author began, and what led me to start my very own publishing house. At any given point in your life, writing is something that has the power to help you overcome any challenges you may be going through; no matter where you’re at on your journey. You may be grieving, confused about a situation, feeling depressed or anxious, or simply trying to understand yourself better. You may not even be aware of what’s bothering you; in which case,

he spiritual growth of the soul, is the core reason for our existence. How to get back above the




he Amnesia Line is the imaginary line people go below as they navigate the peaks and valleys of life. I call it this because when I go below this imaginary line I forget all the resources I’ve learned over time that keep me balanced and in flow. Do you forget the resources you have, too? A clue I’ve gone below the Amnesia Line is when hubby asks me if I am alright. The solution to going below the line is simple: STEP 1: When you are above the Amnesia Line Make a list of 10 things you do that keep you balanced and happy and above the line. Here’s some of my list as inspiration: 1. Call a close friend and have a chat – always fun and energising. 2. Do collage art – this takes me down a rabbit hole into my inner world and helps me unravel the block. 3. Read a trashy novel – pure escapism.

4. Take photos of flowers – to get a macro shot I must be still inside and this re-centres me. 5. Cleaning and decluttering – this gets the energy moving fast. In a few words, write your list onto a piece of card the size of a business card and stick it in a place you’ll see it regularly; perhaps in the bathroom or next to the light switch in your bedroom. STEP 2: How to recognise you’ve gone below the Amnesia Line Here are some ways I recognise I’ve gone below the line: • I don’t want to do any work • Channel surf on the TV • Prowl around the house not knowing what to do next • Feel panic for no apparent reason • Don’t want to talk to anyone Write a list of your clues that will tell you something is out of balance and triggers you to ask the question – “Have

I gone below the Amnesia Line?” If yes, go to the next step. STEP 3: Take action! The secret to getting back above the Amnesia Line is to take action doing one or more of the things on your list. Sometimes one thing is not enough, so keep working your way through your list until you come back into balance. You will know when you are back above the Amnesia Line because you will feel in flow again – and remember all your resources without having to look at your list. Here are some of the most wellknown natural remedies to get you through the festive season. Apples eaten on an empty stomach the day after drinking can be an effective remedy. Bananas – One of the quickest ways to cure a hangover is to make an almond milk banana smoothie sweetened with a little Manuka honey. The banana helps calm the stomach, and with the honey, builds up the depleted blood sugar levels. The milk soothes the stomach and rehydrates your system. s a human being you are designed to BE extraordinary. It is in your genetic blueprint to not just survive this human experience, but to truly THRIVE. heard the crystals speak my language… By the time I had my fourth child I kept hearing my ancestors, but I was too busy to notice them, until I fell seriously ill. I had to learn to stop and listen; realise what I was born to do; accept my body; understand time and reality. To improve my health, I started to search for my connections; what really resonated with my frequency and the triggers that helped me remember my lives – past, present and future, in which we all co-exist. At the time in which I decided to train in Crystal Therapy, I fell pregnant with my fifth son. Nursing him in my arms, I completed my two-year Crystal Therapy diploma. While practising Crystal Therapy, I noticed that I was working with a lot of unseen energies and I sought further guidance by choosing pranic healing. Here I learned how to treat the ‘energy body’ and understand how it affects the ‘physical

body’. This confirmed my experiences with clients during a healing. Seeking to fine-tune my intuitive abilities and to sense the cause of a physical or emotional condition that lay hidden within the energy of the physical body, medical intuition was next. This gave me the understanding of the human body that I could comprehend and integrate into healings. At that time, my level of intuition and energy skill had opened even more, so I enrolled to Light-Wave Energy Infusion Therapy; the name says it all. I was opening and closing doors, harnessing energies from the universes, home planet or whatever was needed for the healing of the client to take place. While I was working with the unseen energies of the human body, I also encouraged my clients to take care of their physical body, by seeing a doctor, naturopath, or Chinese herbalist. Without knowing, I designed my fence outside my clinic with a frog, a

plant and an elephant and I feel they guide me towards further study. In 2017, an opportunity to go to Peru to train on Kambo, ‘Frog Medicine’ arose, and next minute I flew from Australia to be there! The 15-day training took place in the dense jungle of the Amazon. I was completely out of my comfort zone (especially after the lessons finished, walking alone, torch in hand, back to my hut in the dark to sleep). Kambo has irrefutably changed my life, giving me inner strength and determination to do whatever I need to do for my growth to continue, understanding the physical body. The reason I call my work ‘Emanating Crystals’ is because I saw the life force as a crystal within the body but it was not brought to life until the person activated their own unique energy signature. HB: What have been some of the most memorable experiences and challenging experiences over the 30 years?

Magazine Magic HB: What inspired you to start creating magazines? Duncan: From a young age, I felt the most effective way to cause change on this planet was to spread information – specifically useful information which was not being covered by traditional mainstream media. By virtue of circumstance, in 1981 I created Southern

Crossings Magazine, a free ‘what’s-on’ for everything alternative in Sydney, and a few years later went on to work at Simply Living Magazine. I did not create NEXUS originally. NEXUS was created in 1987 by a breakaway group from the popular Maggies Farm Magazine. I took NEXUS over in late 1990 and changed its contents to reflect basically the things

Duncan: At the time I took over NEXUS, I was an activist and researcher organising events with many environmental groups, as well as meeting with alternative health and free energy researchers. My research has taken me on adventures to many countries, including Libya in late 1986, where I met and learned that Gaddafi was warning of a coming world government/ cashless global currency, and was forming an opposition to it. My interest in ancient mysteries has taken me to see archaeological wonders on many continents. I’ve had dealings with scores of Intel agents and whistle-blowers, and have seen and learned enough to fill several books. Magazine deadlines are a challenge when there are other projects happening, but the outcome is also very fulfilling, particularly when you receive feedback

that an article has been a life-changer for someone. When I reflect on the past 30 years, my most memorable and powerful experiences of all were being present during the homebirths of my son and daughter in the early 1990s, and more recently falling in love, and then marrying my partner, Nell. HB: What was it that called you to the Sunshine Coast Hinterland 27 years ago and please tell us a bit more about your amazing shop in Maleny? Duncan: One of the whistle-blowers I was meeting with in 1989 was shot, and when I visited him in hospital, he advised it would be wise for me to get out of town for a while. Given who he was and what he did for a living, it was a no-brainer. So I decided to leave Sydney, and move to the place I had felt most at home in my travels around Australia – the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. We published NEXUS from our home/office near Montville for nearly 25 years, before moving it to Maleny a year ago. In Maleny we found enough space to create a wellbeing shop and a healing room, featuring the amethyst crystal BioMat – which people are coming from far and wide to experience. HB: What do you believe is your point of difference in the world of alternative media? Duncan: The world of alternative

n this coming year the new moon day of 16th February 2018 (Australian time) is the official Lunar New Year Celebration Day when all the exciting dragons and fireworks come out into the streets for Chinese New Year. It lasts until February 2019. Last year was a Fire Rooster and

The sign that has some difficulties this year (as it’s opposite to the Dog) is the Dragon. Dragons need to look to their home life and to work commitments. So what can we expect from the upcoming year? The Dog is an ethical and idealistic sign, and the year that bears its name will also bring increased social awareness and interest in society’s less powerful members. Interview with Dr Ross Perry, Bird Specialist

Q: What made you first become interested in working with birds? A: Becoming Australia’s first registered bird specialist in caged and aviary bird health was the culmination of years of study and being in the right place at the right time. I thank my parents for their love of wild birds during my childhood and for letting me have Butch and Billy, my first two pet budgies during those formative years. Upon graduation in 1971, I soon learnt that my ethics were unusual with doing my best to treat birds just as much as dogs and cats, even though they took more time and effort and paid less. I filled a gap that soon expanded.

Q: What changes and transformations do you see in the animals and owners you work with? A: Calming untamed pet birds so that they can be handled and examined without sedation or anaesthesia is a skill that has taken years of practice to refine. Until people have experienced scientific dowsing with me, some are dubious at best, others are curious but sceptical, and many are full of faith and ready to explore what it has to offer. Honest open communication early in the consultation allows me to decide upon my ‘modus operandi’ and be of service. Those that embrace scientific dowsing and invocations generally get ‘extra value’. I enjoy the appreciation I receive when I have extended the quality of life of an animal that would have otherwise been euthanased months or years earlier. Q: What tips would you have for animal owners over the festive season? A: Buy a packet of Washing Soda crystals and store it in an airtight jar. A few crystals make a great emergency emetic should your dog be seen to eat or drink something inappropriate. Prevent your pet accessing pork skin and bones.

If you have pet birds, keep them locked up and out of reach of children and other pets unless receiving intense supervision. Make sure you have recordings of your birds calling and talking to each other that can be played through loud speakers to help attract your bird back home quickly in the event of it escaping. Refrain from letting your bird(s) access plastic and tinsel Christmas and cage decorations. Give them some fresh branches or twigs of native plants such as Eucalyptus, Melaleuca and Callistemon to chew and some seeding green grasses as well for the smaller species. Q: What projects do you have coming up for 2018? A: We plan to expand the range of holistic products and services we have for both people and pets at ‘Breathe Beauty and Life’, Murwillumbah. I also consult as a bird specialist with Dr Elaine Cebuliak and staff at ‘Animal Wellness’ and will run some talks. as the loss of an animal companion hurt so deeply you can’t go through it again? Is grief preventing you from experiencing and sharing divine love? Unconditional love between human and animal companions is an expression of divine love. Not fleeting, changing, emotional pendulum love, but everpresent, calm, soul-to-soul divine love. Around Christmas, stories of Christ and Christ consciousness remind us that through life’s physical and mental turmoil, exist opportunities to rebirth knowledge of eternal divine love; that through journeying periods of intense soul exploration and releasing grief with absolute forgiveness, we can uncover and physically anchor divine love, here on earth, within us. Shutting down the stream divine love often indicates retention of grief, and vice versa. Grief arising from an animal friend’s passing can trigger other unresolved grief to surface. The unconditionality of relationships with animal companions, and the subsequent loss of their physical presence, can plummet you into the depths of your soul, sinking you into a river of grief

which invites you to open to a cleansing of soul, physically and spiritually. From an alchemical perspective, it is the pouring out of all that is no longer needed, which can both uncover the core of you – ever-present and everlasting divine love – and transmute grief into a resurrection of divine love within you. The physical loss of an animal companion is a call to remain present, to stay true to your soul and to divine love. Physical loss is merely physical. Divine love, the unconditional love you shared, is eternal. It is your choice whether you attach your state of mind and emotions to the physical or eternal. You may not recall the fine print of life’s brochure, yet rest assured that everything that occurs is a call to know yourself at your core, and to love each moment and every encounter with divine love. Animals also experience grief. Years ago, I took into care a senior dog whose grief manifested physically. Particular occasions of excessive panting, pronounced swallowing and violent elbow shaking, told of difficulty assimilating departures (as part of life), and of depression. A later diagnosis

of large intestine colitis indicated her inability to release pre-existing grief. A subsequent diagnosis of metastasized spleen cancer shared her story of being unable to stay in life’s sweet spot. A call to divine love, to awaken and anchor it within, affects humans and animals alike. To share it, is to enrich and nourish each other’s souls, in all forms, physical and otherwise.
