Learn About The Ways To Improve Pig Iron Production

With the growth in the demand for pig iron, several manufacturing units are looking for ways to improve the production of pig iron. But, how are they supposed to increase it besides following the usual pattern of production?
Surprisingly, different ways will help these manufacturing units to grow their production so that they can earn a better amount of profit and also improve their influence in the field.
Top 4 Ways to improve the pig iron production
Here is a list of the different ways that can suggest a betterment in pig iron production. Let's take a look at them.

1. Using a blast furnace
We all are aware of the role of a blast furnace in the production of pig iron. But, how can it support the production? Well, iron ore contains a mixture of impurities that is a burden. To make the process easier, there is the addition of water cooling pipes known as tuyeres and a double bell system that seals the furnace. Yet, during the whole process, the waste gas containing nitrogen can pre-heat the air that is entering the furnace. To ease up the process, the
furnace is made to heat at a temperature of 800°C so that the air is pushed out through the tuyeres.
2. Using a flux
How are pig iron manufacturers supposed to produce the right quality pig iron with the impurities? For this, they need different fluxes like limestone and feldspar that can transform the iron into a meltable slag. The work of limestone is to combine with the silicates present in the iron ore and turn it into calcium silicate.

3. Running a blast furnace continuously
Manufacturers can still improve their pig iron production by running the blast furnace continuously. This way, the slag can be removed from the material every 2 hours and the pig iron can be formed at least 5 times a day. Sometimes they are even directly attached to a steel industry so that the molten pig iron can be transferred easily.
4. Diversification of the pig iron properties
Instead of focusing attention on a single property of pig iron, the pig iron manufacturers work on expanding the different properties of pig iron. This way, three different types of pig iron are produced. The basic pig iron consists of about 0.5% to 3% of silicon while the grey and the white pig iron consist of more than 2% and less than 0.5% respectively.
These are some of the ways that manufacturers should use for increasing the production of pig iron.
