Town of Hempstead Supervisor Kate Murray and Councilman Gary Hudes made a special presentation to David Chavez, an Island Trees third grader who saved his grandfather’s life last month. A ceremony was held at David’s School, Michael F. Stokes Elementary School, where the Supervisor and Councilman presented the young hero with a proclamation declaring David Chavez Day in Levittown. “The risks if low blood sugar is left untreated are significant,” noted Murray. “By knowing enough to call 911 to get immediate help for his grandfather, David saved his life.” David learned to dial 911 while in kindergarten.
