Free Tickets to The Tampa Pitcher Show As you may have noticed, we love doing contests in our magazine to get the community involved. Unfortunately, during these contests we only have a limited amount of winners, so, we decided to do something for all of our readers. We teamed up with Tampa Pitcher Show and thought it would be great to give every household a free movie ticket! We always have a great time when we visit Tampa Pitcher Show and we figured you would too! If you haven't been, this is a great opportunity to have an entertaining night out at the movies in a way you have never experienced before!

The Tampa Pitcher Show Open for Business since 1982, this Single-Screen Independent Theater currently plays first-run movies as well as independent films, live shadowcast stage shows (like Rocky Horror Picture Show), Clue, and Live Music Events, as well as improv comedy, live modern burlesque and as of just recently, Florida Underground Wrestling events. Also offered are family-friendly classic movies on Saturday afternoons for only $5.00. "We have a full dinner menu and

full service Bar,” says Wayne. “Some of our recent events have been Life Amplified “ Salutes – a fundraiser for purchasing aid dogs for disabled American Vet’s, and Heidi's Legacy Dog Rescue. Some of our other community efforts have partnered us with the Joshua House and many other Bay area churches and charity fundraisers. We have always felt the community has supported us and feel it is necessary for local business to be part of the community." He adds, "We are currently working on our own fundraiser. As being an Independent Cinema we are being forced by Hollywood and Major Film Distributors to change from a 35mm film format to Digital Format by the end of the year or we will no longer be able to show movies. We hope to use Kickstarter or Indigogo as a fundraising tool to keep us running. Being a part of the community, we have created jobs for hundreds of local teens and adults alike in our 30 years in business in this area and hope to continue to do so." The Tampa Pitcher Show is located 14416 N Dale Mabry Hwy. in Tampa. For more information on your free household ticket please call (813) 963-0578 or visit their website at www.TampaPitcherShow.net.

PreK3 Class at Corbett Prep Learns to Make Sense of their Senses Smelling garlic and basil on pizza. Hearing popcorn pop and tasting buttery kernels. Seeing a toy in the daylight and feeling its shape in the dark PreK3 turned everyday items into lessons in discovery during their “Sensational Senses” unit this month at Corbett Preparatory School of IDS. Experiments they conducted helped them understand how sight, sound, smell, taste and touch work together and separately. These observations not only increase the students’ understanding of themselves but also give them tools to interpret the world.

The kids in the PreK3 class at Corbett Prep learned how sight, sound, smell, taste and touch work together (and separately) in intrepreting the world around them. Teachers encouraged students to learn by asking questions and pointed out what their different senses could tell them about objects they encountered. Looking at shadows let students zero in on details that required sight only. “Can you hear a shadow? Can

you smell a shadow? Can you touch a shadow?” teacher Aimee Popalis asked. “A shadow is something we sense with our eyes and our eyes only.” These creative teachers set up a large white curtain between the two “Flower Patch” classrooms. A light stood on one side of the curtain, and

students gathered on the other side. The curtain looked blank when the light was off. Once teachers flipped it on, shapes emerged as shadows. The students took turns walking in groups behind the curtain and letting classmates guess who was who. Teacher Lori Seise then held up a stapler, a lunchbox, a watering can and other items to see if the children could identify them. Without their sense of smell, hearing, taste or touch, they had to use sight to spot clues to reveal who or what was casting the shadow. The experience also inspired questions and discussions among the class about transparency, opacity, reflections and more ways light, sight and materials interact. Students also learned there are times they needed more than their sense of sight. A toy car, for example, may look colorful in the light and disappears into blackness in the dark. The way it feels suddenly becomes more important when it cannot be seen. In other parts of the “Sensational Senses” unit, multiple senses worked together to reveal information. Students discovered that the sounds they hear are created by vibrations that, in some cases, they can see and feel. Kindergarten teaching assistant

John McColley visited the classroom with his harp and showed students how the longer strings make lower notes and the shorter strings produce a higher pitch. Students watched as the strings vibrated with the tones and placed their hands on the ground to feel the low notes rumble through the floor. Grains of rice on top of a drum gave a visual example of sound vibrations as well. A light tap on the drum caused the rice to tremble slightly. A harder hit and louder sound sent rice leaping off the surface. Lessons on the senses wouldn’t be complete without taste, and popcorn and pizza filled the need nicely. Students listened to popcorn pop, smelled its scent, felt kernels on their tongues and tasted various flavors of butter and kettle corn. Bagel pizzas offered the chance to sniff basil, garlic, pizza sauce and bread baking before tasting the final product. Experiencing the senses unit with all their senses sparked students’ curiosity and gave them opportunities to analyze information and draw their own conclusions during their experiments. The next time they see a shadow or taste a treat, they will have a broader understanding of what they are encountering and why.

Annual Christmas Tree Sale at Sickles High School Your Beautiful Tree Will Support Students in Extracurricular Activities! By Kim Thomas To me, nothing says it’s Christmas like the heady smell of a fresh cut tree! You can find the perfect tree and get into the Christmas spirit of giving at the Annual Christmas Tree Sale at Sickles High School (SHS). The Christmas tree lot is located in front of SHS at the intersection of Ehrlich Road, Gunn Highway and Sheldon Road. Not only will you find choice trees at competitive prices; your purchase will help fund the Sickles High School Boosters Club. This is no ordinary Christmas tree lot! SHS Principal Jake Russell describes it, “What I like about it is that it’s not a rushed experience. There is no pressure and the trees are displayed so that you can see them. There are at least 150 trees freestanding so you can really see what they look like. You pick your tree, then go have some hot chocolate while they get it ready and you’re on your way.”

Get Photos With Santa! Even better than complimentary hot chocolate, is the chance to meet Santa and Mrs. Claus. From Nov. 29th until Dec. 19th, Santa and Mrs. Claus will be onsite every Friday from 4 to 9 p.m., every Saturday from noon to 6 p.m., and 1 to 6 p.m. on Sundays. Bring your camera for a free photo session! Just in time for Christmas card photos, the free photo sessions are offered between 3 and 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 29, Saturday, Nov. 30 and Sunday, Dec. 1, and Friday, Dec. 6, Saturday, Dec. 7 and Sunday, Dec. 8. Coordinator Jeffrey McCullers strives to make this an event that people will remember and look forward to every year. “It is very family-oriented,” says Jeffrey. “We want this to be fun and special. So every year, we have a fire and complimentary hot chocolate, coffee or tea, and candy canes. People end up taking their time to enjoy the experience.”

Fresh from the Tree Farm! There are literally hundreds of choices displayed, with fresh trees coming in daily, so you can browse the lot and choose the pick of the Christmas trees crop! With sizes ranging from 2 feet to 20 feet tall, you’ll find your favorite tree here and maybe one

for every room! The selection includes Fraser Firs, Noble Firs, Grand Firs and Nordmann Firs. There are also freshly made wreaths, roping and garlands for purchase, as well as tree stands. Delivery is available. Select Fraser Firs are offered at an exceptional value: 5–6 foot trees in

this grouping are $29 – $34; 6–7 foot are $35 – $45; 7–8 foot trees are $46 – $58; and 8–9 foot are $59 – $79. These are good, fresh trees and they are beautiful with silvery-green 1-inch needles that are soft to the touch; though if you want something to knock Santa’s socks off – they have that too. Trees over 16 feet are special orders. Jeffrey says they usually stock up on a few but these go fast, so if you

are looking for a showstopper tree call ahead and place your order. Noble Firs are deep green and the branches are both lovely and sturdy. Boughs from the Noble are often used to make fresh wreaths. Like the Fraser Fir, the Noble's branches have good spacing between branches so it's easy to hang ornaments on them. The Grand Fir has a glossy dark green color and is very soft with needles that are 1 to 1 1/2 inches long. Nord-

Married for 4 years to her husband Jesse, an active member in the United States Army, Natasha discovered her love for massage therapy after

working at a physical therapist’s office. Natasha saw how massages were used in conjunction with physical therapy and noticed how happy the massages made people feel. She says, “People enjoy massage therapy, that is why I like it. Not only does it help people, it makes people feel better.” It was then that Natasha transitioned into massage therapy, attending and graduating from the Suncoast School of Massage Therapy, and since then has been helping improve the lives of people in the community, one massage at a time! Now, for the past 12 years, Natasha has been providing exceptional massages throughout the Tampa Bay area. She has a lot of experience working on clients of all ages, from babies only weeks old to her oldest client who is 97. “I have a great history of performing geriatric massages,” says Natasha. Natasha is also certified in infant massage and is a certified educator in infant massage, allowing her to not only perform massages, but also teach parents how to properly massage their newborns and young children. Infant massages are frequently performed on premature babies and have been

proven to help them gain, on average, 47% more weight. They are also a great way to help colicky babies and can reduce gas issues, as well as stimulate better brain development and better digestion. Client Arnold writes, “After five, ten plus hour days at work, I look forward to my early Friday evening each week. At the end of that day, I come home, have a drink, a hot shower, and await the magic hands of Natasha to massage, knead, and sooth my tense muscles and joints. Natasha is an integral part of my health care and a little bit of heaven.” The benefits of massage are endless and the emotional balance that massage provides can be just as important as the physical benefits. In fact, many people report an improved sense of perspective and clarity after receiving a massage. Massage therapy helps to reduce stress, decrease anxiety, soothe sore muscles, enhance sleep quality, improve circulation and flexibility, and can even relieve tension-related headaches. It has even been reported to improve one’s posture, lower blood pressure, assist in pain management, and strengthen the im-

Hypnotherapy Formerly called Quintessence, Dee renamed her practice to Dee Woolridge Hypnotherapy and Integrative Health to reflect the new direction that she aims to take, encompassing more hypnotherapy after seeing the positive effects it has had on her clients. She says, “With hypnotherapy it allows me to get to the root of the problem and help my clients’ results become more permanent.” Client Brittany writes, “I had the most positive session with Dee. It wasn't awkward in the least; it felt like talking to a good friend about the most casual of things. She is very talented

and most importantly you can tell she enjoys what she does. I am so grateful to have crossed paths with her.” As a hypnotherapist, Dee teaches clients how to grow, bringing things into their lives that make them better. She says, “Hypnotherapy deserves more respect than it is given. Open up and give it a try. It is becoming more and more mainstream and trying things outside of the norm can be such a great help to you – like trying a new flavor of ice cream. You might like it and you don't know unless you try it. When you do hypnotherapy you meet a whole new side of yourself – or actually, you meet yourself.” Dee also offers clients natural healing remedies, along with hands-on energy healing which she uses in conjunction with hypnotherapy for pain management. “Hypnotherapy is amazing,” says Dee. “I am able to teach people how to manage both chronic and immediate pain by bringing their pain levels down. My whole premise is to do what I can to help you heal naturally.” Dee believes that “being well is everything” and takes a holistic approach, focusing her practice on healing from the inside out; because before you can feel your best on the outside,

you must be at peace within yourself. “I teach self love and self reassurance,” says Dee, “that is what I do. Because, most importantly, you have to love yourself first.” With Dee’s guidance, in just one session, clients have reported a plethora of amazing results, including a

reduction in their stress levels, relief of pain, a boosting of their immune system, better sleep patterns, a rejuvenation of energy, a restored focus, and so much more. Sunday from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m., Dee offers group meditation and intuitive development. At these sessions Dee always does some kind of lesson, followed by a meditation and share. In addition she offers classes in chakra, pendulums and crystals, as well as teaching workshops for caregivers. Dee also has her own therapeutic line and metaphysical line of oils, mists and air diffusers, in addition to offering a huge selection of essential oils and other unique items. My Experience Dee is a beautiful person, inside and out, and her comforting, trusting

demeanor instantly puts you at ease. After speaking with her for a while, it was quite apparent that she had found her true calling in life; she has a passion for what she does, and a beautiful, positive energy that just radiates off her. I had such a positive experience on my past visit with Dee that I am compelled to share. I have a tendency to stress a lot, and with so much going on in my life, I constantly find myself feeling overwhelmed. Dee believed that she could help me, so, very intrigued by her approach, I decided to give it a try. Starting with a hypnotherapy session, Dee helped me to get in tune with myself to help find the root cause of my stress. Following hypnotherapy was a soothing session on the Amethyst BioMat™, a high-tech Negative Ion and Infrared Ray mat that emits negative Ions and Far Infrared Rays; completing my visit, Dee did a session of Reiki. During my session I slowly began to let go, and gradually over the course of the next hour something happened – I experienced an overwhelming feeling of calmness and relaxation. It’s hard to explain, but I felt different; better. But it didn’t end there – this feeling stayed with me through the weeks to come and whenever I felt myself getting stressed I took a breather and remembered the techniques that I learned from Dee. After just one visit, I have already began to experience first-hand the remarkable mending powers of Dee’s practice. I can see why so many of her clients keep coming back – I will definitely be one of them! Dee’s office is located at 12000 N. Dale Mabry Hwy., suite 222 in Tampa. not to mention that painless! Milli, one of their talented wax specialists, performed the service and I was very pleased. She made me feel very comfortable and explained the process very thoroughly from start to finish. I was also very impressed with her attention to cleanliness – as a European Wax Center policy, she never double dipped the stick used to apply the wax and used a different stick on every ap-

plication. I was so thrilled with my experience and results that before leaving I signed up for one of their specials – I pre-bought 9 waxes and got 3 free. At European Wax Center Carrollwood, they are so sure that you are going to love their wax, that, as a nationwide promotion, they offer all first-time Florida resident customers a complimentary wax, with no purchase

necessary. For women, this includes a free brow, underarm or bikini line wax, and for the men, a free ear, nose or brow wax. “We offer free waxing for first time customers to allow people the chance to try our wax because we are confident that once they try our wax they will stay with us forever,” says Bobbi. “They will see and feel the difference in our wax.” Customer Michelle writes, “I like to wear tube tops and straps when on the beach but I was just too worried about my underarms (even after I just shaved). They didn’t appear smooth, even after shaving. I was too scared to have my underarms waxed since I was brainwashed by the thought that waxing was painful. But, at the European Wax Center, I didn’t feel as anxious since they explained every detail of the process and the expected results before we even started. It was a warm and luxurious experience for me since the facilities are so comfortable and the staff is so friendly. I have never been this confident in my entire life.” Specializing in full body waxing for both men and women (excluding select areas for men), European Wax Center of Carrollwood focuses their business solely on waxing and nothing else, which allows them to be the best of the best when it comes to their services. Bobbi says, “We are specialists in waxing. All we do is waxing.”

4 Steps To Gorgeous™ Consistency is key at European Wax Center Carrollwood, and using 4 Steps To Gorgeous™, their exclusive pre and post-wax process, they ensure that at every treatment you’ll experience the most painless and efficient wax possible, no matter who performs your service.

1.Cleanse Beginning with a calming pre-wax cleanser the wax specialist removes any makeup, oil or lotion on the areas to

be treated.

2. Protect Next, they use their pre-wax oil to ensure the wax only takes hold of your pesky hairs and not to your skin.

3. Time to Get Your Wax On Next comes the application of their virtually painless Comfort Wax™.

4. Rejuvenate The last step is all about pampering your skin. Body treatments receive a lovely dose of their exclusive Ingrown Hair Serum to help prevent bumps or breakouts. And facial treatments finish with a gentle application of Calming Cream so you can walk out the door with confidence. Looking for a great lotion, or beauty product to perfectly complement your new wax? Chances are, European Wax Center has just what you are looking for. “We also have a full line of products that were created just for us that work in conjunction with our waxing,” says Bobbi.” In addition to the obvious benefit of having silky smooth skin, waxing also has added health benefits. “Waxing is great for your skin,” says Bobbi. “It gets off dead skin cells and reveals healthy skin.” So, when you are ready to toss your razors aside and opt for the convenience and affordability of waxing, you should definitely give the specialists at European Wax Center Carrollwood a call! “Relax,” says Bobbi. “We are the world's wax-perts!” European Wax Center Carrollwood is located on the corner of Dale Mabry and Fletcher in front of Lowes at 12915 N Dale Mabry Hwy. in Carrollwood. Happy Thanksgiving From Whole Foods Market Carrollwood! Hello again, people of Tampa, and happy almost Thanksgiving- it’s Nicole here, your friendly neighborhood Whole Foods Market Carrollwood Healthy Eating Specialist! I want to talk about keep healthy this holiday season, because while Thanksgiving brings to mind so many fun (and delicious) memories, it is also associated with the dreaded five to ten pound weight gain. As a teenager, I can remember thinking to myself, “It’s okay if I eat a lot during holidays. I can just make a resolution and lose it all again, right?” I stuck to that plan for years, but I think we all know this is not the healthiest way to approach mindful eating. This year, I have worked tirelessly to find ways to make the holidays healthier for you and less physically taxing with some quick easy tips. Read closely and take notes, because I guarantee you’ll be glad that you did!

Healthy Holiday Eating Tips: 1. Do not “mistreat” your veggies. I recently polled some friends

20

about their favorite Thanksgiving side dishes and got answers such as, “Sweet potato casserole with marshmallows!” or “Green bean casserole with cream of mushroom soup and extra fried onions.” Veggies can be tasty without all the additives and extra sodium. Try a baked sweet potato with a drop of honey and sprinkle of cinnamon, instead of a butter-filled casserole, or blanched green beans with fresh dill and a squeeze of fresh lemon juice. 2. Make it at home. Cranberry sauce. Stuffing. Gravy. Boost flavor and cut calories and salt intake by making these dishes in the comfort of

your home. Keeping the power in your hands allows you to control which ingredients goes into your holiday meals, rather than defaulting to processed food manufacturers. It may take a few extra minutes, but the tasty results are so worth it when you consider your family’s health. 3. Hold the butter…and the oil while you’re at it. For every tablespoon of oil you use to fry, sauté or coat your dish, you’re adding 120 calories of liquid, processed fat. Similarly with butter, it lacks nutrients, but provides a lot of fat and calories. Keep the butter out of this feast by using a dry pan to sauté your veggies and oilfree dressings for salads. Try our line of Health Starts Here salad dressings with no added oils or sugar. 4. Consider non-dairy/egg alternatives. An easy way to lower saturated fat and cholesterol is to cut back on the use of dairy and egg products. Use a powdered egg replacer or flaxseed “egg” in your baking, substitute unsweetened almond milk to whip your mashed potatoes, and instead of heavy cream in your casseroles, consider thick light coconut

milk to lighten it up. Thanksgiving is a great time to share stories and catch up with family, but make sure it’s only your mind that’s expanding and keep that waistline in check. Until next time, stay healthy and enjoy the holidays, friends! Nicole Sampson is the Healthy Eating Specialist at Whole Foods Market Carrollwood. She is a great resource for free, easy tips on how to eat healthy on a budget. And The Carrollwood BBQ Contest Winners Are... Kelly Green & Alex’s Southern Style BBQ With over 3,000 contest entries we are pleased to announce our Battle of the Carrollwood area BBQ contest has come to an end. And, the winning restaurant is……… Alex’s Southern Style BBQ. With a whopping 967 votes, and an extremely close finish, Alex’s Southern Style BBQ has proudly been voted by our readers as Carrollwood’s favorite BBQ restaurant. It makes sense, Alex’s BBQ has been a staple in this community for so long. Even though we had an amazing participation by the community, only about 150 entries followed the rules of the contest and were eligible for the $500 prize. The funny thing is, the ranking of the restaurants didn’t change between the over 3,000 entries and the 150 entries who followed all the rules; when we tallied up all the votes 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place was in the same order. We want to make it clear that this contest was something we thought would be a fun way to get the Carrollwood community involved and eat

2nd Annual Central Pasco Chamber's "Dancing With Our Stars" By Alexis Selby From Salsa to hip hop to line dancing, dancers and local business owners lit up the stage at the 2nd Annual Dancing With Our Stars event. Hosted by the Central Pasco Chamber of Commerce, people from all over the Tampa Bay Area gathered for this spectacular event as local businessmen and women volunteered to showcase their talents as well as business while raising funds to benefit the chamber and its programs. With the crowd filled to near capacity, the audience was surely entertained as dancers shook, rattled, rolled and swung, dressed in elaborate costumes ranging from pirates to cowboys to the Incredible Hulk. To help raise proceeds, the Central Pasco Chamber of Commerce, with the help of star volunteers, auctioned off a number of fun and unique items to bid on to raise money for their organization. A percentage of proceeds also benefitted the local dance community, which partnered with the star volunteers to choreograph and train for the event.

Maximum Benefits from Minimally Invasive Robotic Surgery “It could not have worked out better.”

Cheri K., a real patient of St. Joseph’s Hospital-North

After years of pain due to endometriosis, Cheri knew she needed a hysterectomy. When she found out she could have it done robotically and close to home at St. Joseph’s Hospital-North, she decided to have the surgery. She experienced minimal pain and was able to go home the next day. She is grateful for the superior care she received. There are many benefits when you undergo a robotic procedure compared to a traditional, “open” surgery, including: Q Shorter hospital stay

Q Smaller scars

Q Shorter recovery

Q Less pain
