Kathy Reichs, #1 New York Times bestselling author and producer of the FOX television hit Bones, is at her brilliant best in a riveting novel featuring forensic anthropologist Tempe Brennan—a story of infanticide, murder, and corruption, set in the high-stakes, high-danger world of diamond mining. A woman calling herself Amy Roberts checks into a Montreal hospital complaining of uncontrolled bleeding. Doctors see evidence of a recent birth, but before they can act, Roberts disappears. Dispatched to the address she gave at the hospital, police discover bloody towels outside in a Dumpster. Fearing the worst, they call Temperance Brennan to investigate.
In a run-down apartment Tempe makes a ghastly discovery: the decomposing bodies of three infants. According to the landlord, a woman named Alma Rogers lives there. Then a man shows up looking for Alva Rodriguez. Are Amy Roberts, Alma Rogers, and Alva Rodriguez the same person? Did she kill her own babies? And where is she now?
Heading up the investigation is Tempe’s old flame, homicide detective Andrew Ryan. His counterpart from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police is sergeant Ollie Hasty, who happens to have a little history with Tempe himself, which she regrets. This unlikely trio follows the woman’s trail, first to Edmonton and then to Yellowknife, a remote diamond-mining city deep in the Northwest Territories. What they find in Yellowknife is more sinister than they ever could have imagined.
Crackling with sexual tension, whip-smart dialogue, and the startling plot twists Reichs delivers so well, Bones Are Forever is the fifteenth thrilling novel in Reichs’s “cleverly plotted and expertly maintained series” (The New York Times Book Review). With the FOX series Bones in its eighth season and her popularity at its broadest ever, Kathy Reichs has reached new heights in suspenseful storytelling.
Reviews Kathy Reichs has built a reputation on strong story telling skills as well as excellent writing. My reviews are not professional or even scholastically correct, but I offer my opinion. Dr. Reich's characters are always well written, researched, and fleshed-out. She leaves you wanting to know more about each character, which is a sign of a good author. These are characters who do not indulge in self-pity nor selfaggrandizement. They are normal people with normal problems, weaknesses and successes. They are people you'd like to have dinner with. They are very real. Dr. Reich's stories are also very well-researched and fun to read. The stories go fast, and end too quickly. Her material is always fresh and educational. I love learning, even if it is just fiction. _____________________________________________________________ Kathy Reichs must be about as lucky as hard work can make you. She has come up with another great book with Termperance Brennen and this one is a corker. Situated in Canada most of the time the books starts with a woman who has a baby and hides it in the bathroom cabinet and lets it die. Later 2 more baby bodies are found and then another. Nothing can be as sad as a dead baby and 4 of them just break your heart. Other characters in this mystery are Andrew Ryan and Ollie Hasty both gentlemen have a history with Tempe and she works the case with them. You will learn about the natives of the area, and also a little bit about diamond mining both of which I was ignorant and glad to learn. This is a fast paced novel with excellent writing and plot formation. A good quick read. _____________________________________________________________ Though it is frustrating to have read yet another book in which Tempe makes no progress in her personal relationships, the story was good. The baby story was a bit hard to take and the resolution of that seemed rushed. I did like the bigger plot behind it all, to me that was what both saved and made the book. I learned new things (as I always do when reading Kathy Reichs) and found my curiosity
awakened about other things as well. This novel is worth buying and let me just say to the author (right! Like she is reading MY thoughts! Lol) I sincerely hope your next book finds Tempe some personal happiness and you release the book earlier than August! I want the next story!! _____________________________________________________________ Kathy Reichs is a fine writer. Although her last book, which centered on NASCAR, bored me, this one is just plain terrific. As usual, the book is full of fascinating information about forensic anthropology, and, in this case, diamond mining (now I know why diamonds are so expensive), and aboriginals in Canada. The book is tightly plotted, and extremely well-written. The initial crimes are heart-breaking and anger-causing and thanks to Reichs's finelydrawn heroine, Temperance Brennan, I felt what she felt. I read until 3 a.m. _____________________________________________________________ I am a big fan of Kathy Reichs and her Tempe Brennan character. This book was so well written and I had trouble putting it down. I even learned things and was intrigued to learn more as I was reading. I would definitely recommend it to friends and fellow readers. I love mysteries and this is a great one. I like to pretend that I am there along with Tempe helping her reason out the who done it and why of it in the plot. I also love the tv show bones.
