We are MITIE

20 years of experience you can rely on These are some of the things that make MITIE different... We self-deliver the largest range of facilities, energy and people services in the UK and Ireland Our technicians are multi-skilled – to reduce the number of visits needed to your buildings We have a black-belt in Six-Sigma – a scientific approach to doing things in the most cost effective way We can help you control your energy use, reduce energy costs, buy or generate the energy you need, and lower emissions Health and safety is our business – we’ve won five RoSPA Gold awards in a row We can help you understand your total cost of occupancy including leases, energy, maintenance, projects and FM services

When it comes to healthcare our aim is crystal clear, we create exceptional experiences for patients, residents, staff and visitors. We do that through: • Applying the fresh thinking from our 72,000 people to change and improve the way we deliver services • Helping people live a happier and more independent life in the comfort of their own home • Creating significant cost efficiencies through the self-delivery of the widest range of FM, people and energy services • Investing in technology and innovation For over 20 years, we’ve been helping improve patient care with hospitals, Local Authorities and private sector providers to grow one of the largest and most responsive FM, energy and people services in the UK and Ireland. It means we have thousands of experts who can continually innovate to find new ways of solving problems and reducing costs. And because we operate across the UK and Ireland, and have the largest range and broadest coverage of facilities, energy and people services, we can really use our local presence and range of self-delivered services to drive out duplication and significantly reduce your costs. You probably know that MITIE delivers a complete range of Facilities Services – from cleaning and security, to fit-out and refurbishment, and reactive and planned buildings maintenance services. But you might not realise that energy management services are now a critical part of the services we deliver across the healthcare sector. We can help you control energy use, reduce your energy costs, buy or generate the energy you need, and lower your carbon emissions. What’s more, we’ve also recently expanded into people services and now provide a wide range of homecare services to people who need help and support due to illness, disability, infirmity or old-age. Our unique, innovative and strategic approach to FM, energy and people services is a much smarter way of working – streamlining your operations and simplifying processes while creating welcoming, effective, clean and safe environments for your employees, patients and visitors. The rest of this booklet talks about some of the key services we supply to the healthcare sector, and what makes MITIE really different. Please do get in touch if you are interested in anything we’ve got to say. E: mark.wittich@mitie.com.

CASE STUDY - North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust Services provided: • Car park management; • Domestic cleaning; • Helpdesk; • Portering; • Security services.

What was the Trust looking for? An FM provider that understood the complications of providing services in a busy hospital environment, with a reputable track record.

How did we help? With customer care in mind, we tasked our highly-trained portering team with a range of duties to ensure the hospital ran smoothly, creating more time for staff to concentrate on the well-being of their patients. We also developed a challenging work programme using the high quality and innovative Vermop Microfiber system to deep clean the Trust with minimal disruption to staff, patients and relatives. Through good communication and teamwork, the Trust’s managers and infection control teams were able to adapt the programme based on patients’ needs while maintaining the same degree of efficiency.

Highlights: • Greater physical presence by our portering team, allowing the Trust to focus on caring for their patients; • A new, innovative approach to cleaning; • Low staff turnover; • M ulti-skilled training for our on site project team has decreased down time by over 20%.

Environmental +

Environmental + WE’RE THE EXPERTS + Cleaning; Theatre cleaning; Ward cleaning; Daily office cleaning; Domestic cleaning; Feminine hygiene; Window cleaning; + Landscaping; + Winter services; + Pest control; + Waste and recycling; + Portering.

The Environmental + team at MITIE has been working for over 20 years, making a huge difference to clients across the healthcare sector

Our 32,000 employees in the Environmental + team clean, maintain grounds, grit sites in winter, manage waste, control pests…and even deliver weekly flowers for your reception desks. Our knowledge and capabilities can save you money, by driving out duplication, and improving quality. Safety is critical to the services our Environmental + team deliver. We are proud that our operations have been recognised with five consecutive annual Gold ROSPA awards. And with such a big team we are also experts in ensuring that our training gives our people the skills and motivation to continually delight our clients and protect our industry leading client retention rate. We believe in innovation. Our innovations committee regularly meets with clients and manufacturers to explore and promote better ways of working. We were one of the very first cleaning companies to use microfibre technology as well as time and attendance telephone logging in and out. And our pioneering new Lean environment team is applying the principles of Lean Six Sigma to reduce or eliminate waste of time and resources. It’s helping us to save clients money, cut their energy bills, and reduce their carbon footprint. And as one of the leading waste outsourcers in the UK and Ireland, we were recently proud winners of the CIWM Environmental Excellence Awards. Through re-classifying certain clinical waste, and an effective engagement programme, we helped UCL generate big savings, and big reductions in CO2 emissions. We offer more services in-house than other organisations, but we still manage to treat our customers with the same care and attention as we did when we started over 20 years ago.

Lean Six Sigma

Lean Six Sigma – Innovation MITIE Style MITIE’s expert team is revolutionising operational efficiency in Facilities Management Our highly specialised Lean Environment team has introduced a leaner, greener and more efficient approach to cleaning that has a direct impact on your estate. This is based on Lean Six Sigma, the engineered process that is grounded on removing waste, whether that’s materials, resources, people, energy, or time. Lean Six Sigma also helps remove harmful environmental wastes. One of the ways in which we save time and resources is by process mapping ‘peaks and troughs’ in working practices, getting rid of the downtime that occurs during the troughs. Downtime could involve, for instance, walking between wards or stores or going to another site on the same floor. Instead of just walking to another site our people clean along the way, thus turning that downtime into another peak or productive time. We take CAD drawings of your buildings and plot the best and most efficient routes. We do this by utilising our own bespoke lean software called Lean IT and building known productivities into these new routes. It’s not enough just to create new routes using lean IT. Everyone on site who works for MITIE is trained in the new techniques involved. We have set up our own Lean Six Sigma Academy which trains our own employees in Lean Six Sigma, including recognised Foundation, Yellow and Green belt qualifications. Lean Six Sigma – just another MITIE innovation now setting the standards for a lean and green approach to Facilities Management in the health sector.

Our business improvement team is revolutionising our operations for your benefit

Total Security Management Case Study - Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals NHS Trust Services provided: • Car park management; • CCTV monitoring; • Security personnel.

What was the Trust looking for? A specialist partner to transform their in-house team to act quickly in any emergency across three healthcare sites.

How did we help? We offered a total security package including a bespoke training programme, on-going development plan, reward and recognition schemes and dedicated management support. Our specific training programme focused on customer service, control and restraint, bomb awareness and fire fighting skills to provide the team with the correct skills to handle any type of incident.

The results: The client now has safe and secure sites which are patrolled regularly and effectively. Our people are highly trained, skilled, and motivated.

Total Security Total security Management management

Total Security Management WE’RE THE EXPERTS • Security personnel; • Risk and resilience consultancy services; • Electronic security systems; • Remote CCTV and alarm monitoring; • Vehicle and asset tracking; • Mobile response: alarms, mobile patrols, and key holding; • Void property security; • Lone worker protection; • Employee screening; • Car park management; • Front of house.

MITIE’s Total security management business is one of the UK and Irelands’ leading security companies. Our experts deliver integrated and risk-based security services to not only ensure the safety of your patients, staff and visitors, but your buildings, assets and reputation as well. We work with you to understand your objectives so that the deployment of technology will enable us to drive down the cost base of security personnel. Our commitment to technology and innovation means our officers are more efficient in their roles, eliminating the need for them to be away from their posts: they remain a constant deterrent and you benefit from real time, accurate reporting of incidents. And as an approved SIA contractor, we’re certified to national security standards and base our operational procedures on a thorough knowledge of and compliance with the requirements of the NHS Security Manual. We use the data gathered to intelligently shape the security strategy. Our analysts apply the findings to deploy resource more efficiently; whether that is based around power hours, a surge in incidents, or a one off event - your estate will be protected by the necessary resource level. Where CCTV is integral to the security solution, our state of the art technology centre, MiTec, is operational 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to remotely monitor and act on any alerts. As our technology hub, it’s accredited to NSI Gold Cat II ARC BS 5979.

We use the data gathered to intelligently shape the security strategy

When recruiting our security officers, our selection procedures are far more exacting than the industry average. When one of our team starts work with you, they will have provided written evidence of at least five year’s full employment history and undergone rigorous training in fire fighting, emergency procedures, and law and conflict management. The use of technology-led security and collected intelligence are the future of security in the healthcare sector. And of course, outstanding customer service comes as standard at MITIE.

Homecare

Homecare WE’RE THE EXPERTS • Supported living; • Live-in care; • Re-ablement services; • Respite care; • Personal care; • Complex care; • Social companionship.

In October 2012, MITIE acquired Enara, the fourth largest provider of homecare services. Working with people of all ages, we provide a range of homecare services to people who need help and support due to illness, disability, infirmity or old-age. From preparing meals and helping people get out and about, to supporting more complex conditions such as learning disabilities or dementia, our aim is to help people live a happier and more independent life in the comfort of their own home. With over 60 branches across the south of England and Wales, we work with Local Authorities and Primary Care Trusts to deliver a homecare service to their local residents. We’re a vital part of the communities that we work in and pride ourselves on delivering a local service. This means local branches, local carers and a service that’s totally tailored to our clients’ and service users’ needs and requirements. What’s more, all of this comes with the backing of a national company which means increased efficiencies and cost savings.

Our aim is to help people live a happier and more independent life in the comfort of their own home

We understand the challenges faced by Local Authorities in today’s tough economic climate, but our focus has always remained the same – to provide a quality of care that you would choose for yourself or a loved one. We pride ourselves on quality and are ISO9001 and EXOR accredited and also hold an ‘Investors in People’ award. As well as being regulated and inspected by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), we also have a ‘Quality Advisory Panel’, made up of senior representatives from the health and social care industry who advise us on all aspects of service delivery. With the right processes and systems in place, we continually monitor, communicate and review our management of service delivery and quality, and work hard to constantly improve what we do.

Award-winning Innovations

Award-winning Innovations Technology and innovation are real points of difference for MITIE. For over 25 years we’ve been innovating, and harnessing new technologies to transform the services we deliver, and reduce costs for our clients. In particular, MiWorld, our web-based management information platform, gives clients ‘live’ visibility over exactly what we’re doing, when and how well. MiWorld presents a single overview of your portfolio, and helps to identify asset and facility issues which can be addressed to improve efficiencies and reduce costs. MiWorld is also a strategic tool which combines facilities services costs with property related expenditure such as utility and leases, to uncover the total costs of occupancy, which can be used to benchmark performance. Our use of mobile technology with our mobile workforce has helped to accelerate improvements in service, process and scheduling – and is fundamental to our MobileTech engineering services. Delivering an efficient and cost effective operation to our clients is a top priority. Using the benefits of technology, we want to make all of our processes simpler and more efficient for our people, our customers and our supply chain. Our suppliers are also using us to test new and pioneering products that they are bringing to the market, for example through our supplier innovation days.

Our expert health team will continue to invest in developing new solutions that harness the latest technology

We’re a forward-thinking and innovative company. Our expert healthcare team will continue to invest in developing new solutions that harness the latest technology, transform services and reduce costs for our clients.

CASE STUDY - Rampton Hospital, Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust Services provided: • Planned and unplanned maintenance of M&E services; • Building fabric; • Building installations; • Grounds maintenance; • Operation and maintenance of sewage and water treatment plants and boiler house.

What was the Trust looking for? The Trust wanted to be confident they could achieve annual efficiency savings without compromising quality of service.

How did we help? Providing a maintenance service within this environment presented an almost unique challenge, with many of the complexities of an acute hospital combined with the security measures found in a prison. Routine maintenance tasks typically take twice as long and cost up to 30% more than in a normal hospital. We implemented a number of improvements including: • Early warnings for flagging up rising project costs; • Monthly target cost setting; • Pain/gain linked to key performance indicators; • Weekly finance review; • Greater ownership of the Trust’s risk and closer integration of the quality/ risk manager; • A more innovative way of working.

Building Maintenance, Fit-Out, and Refurbishment

Building Maintenance, Fit-Out, and Refurbishment WE’RE THE EXPERTS • Mechanical and electrical engineering; • ‘MobileTech’ planned and reactive services; • Building refurbishment; • Interior fit-out; • Lighting design, projects and maintenance; • Building management systems and controls; • Plant and boiler maintenance; • Heating ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) applications; • Electrical services and testing; • Building fabric maintenance; • Specialist trades: roofing; plumbing, heating, plastering, dry-lining, painting; • Fire suppression systems, alarms and emergency lighting; • Standby generators and UPS; • Water management; • Drainage; • Insurance claims validation and repairs.

We’ve built an enviable reputation for high-quality maintenance and engineering excellence

Healthcare is a demanding sector that requires a totally different approach to management of assets and facilities. The last thing you need is the distraction of maintenance issues such as broken doors, missing lights, malfunctioning aircon and a million other things that get in the way of effective patient care. Fortunately heathcare is an environment that MITIE really understands because we have worked across the sector, with the biggest organisations, for many years. Being so close to healthcare has helped us develop our MobileTech service to take care of all those maintenance headaches. The principle behind MobileTech is simple but effective, reducing the number of reactive call–outs, driving productivity, minimising site disruption and improving costs efficiencies. ‘Mobile-techs’ are trained in a variety of mechanical and electrical disciplines so that they deliver planned preventative maintenance and compliance services in addition to resolving faults and breakdowns. The trick to making this service work is through the smart and effective delivery of as much of the planned and reactive work together in a single visit. Complementing our technicians is a team of highly trained engineers dedicated to delivering the complex services, from lighting to HVAC, that demand a more focussed set of skills. At the heart of our operation is a state-of-theart Customer Service Centre that is your link to efficient deployment of resource and fast problem resolution. Our interiors team specialises in the fit-out and refurbishment of world-class properties. Our experience in high-quality specifications, occupied buildings, restricted access sites, and listed buildings is second-tonone. Whatever the building and whatever the design, we have the skilled resource to deliver an outstanding fit-out. It’s all down to our unique integration of people, skills, and processes.

What was the Trust looking for? Birmingham Children’s Hospital (BCH) are constantly looking for ways to maximise their budgets in order to deliver best value services to patients and staff. As part of this, BCH were investing in massive redevelopments and commissioning new buildings. In order to make SMART decisions to meet obligations under The Equality Act 2010 and Part M of the building regulations for renovations and building works, it was necessary to undertake a thorough audit of the current access and facilities available at all public facing areas of the Hospital.

How did we help? ‘It was clear that MITIE’s compliance team understood the breadth and depth of information my team needed as well as the practical details required by disabled people. The Access Audit reports are very clear and concise with practical recommendations that could be implemented instantly,” said Peter Hassan, Facilities Manager, BCH.

Sustainability

SUSTAINABILITY We’ve always believed that a more sustainable business is a better business, and as you can see we have plenty to feel proud of. We’ve helped bring about big improvements in the sustainability standards of our supply chain, set and achieved demanding environmental impact targets, created and delivered hugely valuable and multi awardwinning community projects, and we’ve developed the single biggest competitive advantage we have – our own people – by creating some of the best training programmes you’ll find anywhere in our industry. And - perhaps most important of all – sustainability is at the heart of the services we deliver across the healthcare sector: we know that what do across energy and your facilities services has a big impact on patient care, community engagement and your sustainability strategy. When you buy MITIE, you buy services which compliment and support your own sustainability strategy. We recently re-aligned our sustainability strategy behind six key areas, directly aligned with our corporate strategy drivers; because everything we do to make MITIE a more successful business should also help make it a more sustainable one – and vice versa.
