Welcome ... …to Eastern North Carolina and the beautiful Crystal Coast. Few people think of visiting the beach for the holidays, but when they do, they’re actually surprised by how much they find to do. While cool weather sneaks in during December and January, we also have an abundance of more comfortable days in the 50s and 60s, making it perfect for spending time outside and enjoying the peace of the winter beach. The holidays take center stage in the small hamlets and towns that dot Eastern North Carolina. Family-friendly parades, the lighting of town Christmas trees and opportunities to visit for a minute or two with Santa are hot on everyone’s lists. Dec. 6-8 will be a busy time in Morehead City, our commercial center. With the Christmas ArtWalk, Chowder & Cheer Crawl, carol singing, a craft fair and the popular flotilla, which can also be viewed in Beaufort, Morehead will be a hub of activity. The Beaufort Historic Association gets into the action the following weekend, with the Beaufort ArtWalk slated for Dec. 14 followed by the Candlelight Homes Tour. If you’re here for the holidays, our suggestion is that guests hang around for New Year’s as well. The Crystal Coast Countdown brings a flurry activity across Carteret County for an entire week. Historic sites, libraries, museums and towns team up to provide a week-long schedule of fun leading up to the official Crab Pot Drop at Katherine Davis Park in Morehead City. A great way to welcome the new year. For more than 30 years, Coaster Magazine has focused on spreading the word about the region’s upcoming events.
