Raise Your White Flag
Mark 8:34 Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 35 For whoever wants to save his life[c] will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me and for the gospel will save it. 36 What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul?
Mark 8:27 Jesus and his disciples went on to the villages around Caesarea Philippi. On the way he asked them, “Who do people say I am?” 28 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, one of the prophets.” 29 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Peter answered, “You are the Messiah.” 30 Jesus warned them not to tell anyone about him.
First point is when we raise our white flag...we surrender our time.
Ecclesiastes 3:1 There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under the heavens: 2 a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, 3 a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build,4 a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, 5 a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing, 6 a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, 7 a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, 8 a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.
Secondly when we raise our white flag...we surrender our wants and needs to Him. Jesus knows our every need. Philippians 4:19 says..And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.
Thirdly when we raise our white flag...we surrender our lives. When we decide to take up our cross and follow him, we give up the old lives we once lived. Verse 35 says...35 For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it.
Surrender your time...Surrender your wants and needs...Surrender your lives
