PARKS & RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD

The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board exists to advise and make recommendations to the City Council concerning policy matters related to the establishment, maintenance and operation of the City’s parks and recreation programs. The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board meets the third Tuesday of each month at 6:00pm at City Hall, located at 550 Landa Street.

In-person registrations are available at the Parks and Recreation Administrative Office, Landa Recreation Center, Das Rec and Fischer Park NEC. Checks should be made payable to "City of New Braunfels." A charge will be assessed on returned checks.

NB PARD continually strives to provide quality programs and offers a Satisfaction Guarantee. If the participant is not satisfied with a class or program, the participant may either repeat the program at no cost, or receive a 100% refund or account credit, at the discretion of the participant.

Das Rec classes and programs listed as free are free for members. Non-members must purchase a day pass to participate in a free class.

PROGRAM & EVENT POLICIES CANCELLATIONS

Help us have successful programs by registering early! All programs must have a minimum number of participants in order to be conducted. If a program does not meet this minimum, the class may be cancelled. Cancellations by customers made five business days prior to the start of a program will receive a refund. No cancellation refunds will be given after the start of a program or event. Registration fees will not be prorated for partial attendance.

PHOTO RELEASE

The New Braunfels Parks and Recreation Department routinely takes photos and videos of participants in recreation activities, programs and special events and/or at recreation facilities. These photos and/or videos may be used for promotional purposes. Be aware that by participating, you are granting the City of New Braunfels the right to use and publish your image or your minor child’s image.

If registering for a class that is full, your name can be placed on a waiting list. This does not guarantee a spot, but individuals will be contacted if an opening becomes available.

COUNSELOR IN TRAINING (CIT) PROGRAM

Teens- experience all the great things about day camp AND have an opportunity to develop job and leadership skills. CITs assist counselors with implementing and planning camp activities. CIT applications will be available April 1 and require at least one letter of recommendation for new CITs. Once accepted into the program, CITs must attend an orientation prior to the start of camp. Spots are limited and are available on a week-by-week basis following the Camp Minnehaha schedule. Apply at campminnehaha.com.

LANDA PARK TOUR AND HIKE

Join Spass Walking Tours of New Braunfels to explore the history and beauty of Landa Park and experience a two mile walk during this interpretative tour. Discover man-made and natural treasures and hear stories about the people that made Landa Park a significant part of our community. This tour meets in the parking lot of the Rec Center at 164 Landa Park Drive. Most of the tour will be on the sidewalk and is stroller friendly. Register here! HISTORIC CEMETERY TOUR

Join Spass Walking Tours for a guided, interactive walking tour through two historic New Braunfels’ cemeteries that includes an exercise in using and dowsing rods to find unmarked graves from 1846! Hear the stories of our founders along with their struggles and triumphs in building a new life for themselves and their descendants. The Little Athletes series of courses are designed to give your preschooler a basic introduction to sports. Our coaches will guide all young athletes through the fundamental movements and skills of each sport with an emphasis on learning through play. Our courses are designed to allow each child to develop their skills individually while learning in a group setting. Drills will emphasize technique, sharing, patience and motor development while keeping participants engaged. Register here! ULTIMATE SPORTS CAMP

Participants will enjoy a wide variety of both traditional and nontraditional sports. Each day will focus on the instruction of fundamentals of a particular sport. The participants will then put what they have learned to the test as they play each sport. Hill Country Karate’s certified instructors began teaching American Karate in 1983 to people of all ages, utilizing positive instructional methods. All instructors are required to complete extensive certification programs emphasizing safety and positive professional teaching. Karate improves self-discipline, coordination, self-respect, and self-confidence. All white martial arts uniform with elastic waistband required and may be purchased at class for $35. Register here! RAPIDS SUMMER TRACK PROGRAM

Go the extra mile and be a part of the 2022 Rapids Summer Track Program! The Rapids Summer Track Program has been teaching kids about the fundamentals of running for over 10 years. This is a great program for kids ages 6-18 who want to participate, train and compete in the exciting sport of track and field. We'll will introduce basic principles in each of the various events and emphasize the importance of personal health and sportsmanship throughout the entire program. Registration ends Friday, May 27. Register here! Rapids Summer Track participants will make plans to participate in a regional qualifying meet and compete in the 2022 TAAF Summer Games of Texas. SUMMER ADULT 3X3 BASKETBALL LEAGUE

BASKETBALL LESSONS

Summer Adult 3v3 Basketball League Season will consist of 8 weeks and a 2-week Playoff Tournament. League play is governed by TAAF and local rules. Self-refed. Games will be played on ¼ court. There will be two games a night (30min limit). Max of five people on roster (roster must be submitted prior to first game). Register early as there are a limited number of teams that are allowed. Ana practiced Taekwondo for 18 years and earned her 3rd-degree black belt. She is a graduate of Texas A&M University, where she received a degree in Health and Kinesiology. She holds her personal training certificate from ACTION and is a licensed physical therapist assistant with experience in outpatient physical therapy. During her time at the outpatient physical therapy clinic, she treated ailments such as total knee replacements, total hip replacements, rotator cuff repairs, total shoulder replacements, meniscus repairs, and ACL/PCL/MCL tears.

After almost 30 years of moving all over the world with her USAF husband, they made the decision to move back home to central Texas to be near their daughter and Terrie’s parents. As someone who was once very overweight, she can relate to the struggles of lifestyle change, she wants to help others find their fitness love and see the changes that result. When she isn’t teaching classes or training, Anna works full time as a teacher and has two teens that keep her busy.

Brit’ney has had her own journey with health and fitness, losing 40 pounds and learning how to do it in a healthy way. She is ACE certified and continues to learn more about health and fitness and how to integrate it daily into her client’s lives. Her goal is to help her clients become more confident, healthy, and happy individuals. Brit’ney’s areas of specialty are strength training, weight loss, aqua fitness, and interval training. When not training, Brit’ney is pursing her degree in Kinesiology and spending with her family.

Kari finds true enjoyment from seeing people reach their goals and feel great about themselves. That’s why she is an ISSA certified personal trainer and has a passion for teaching group fitness. The full-service Westside Branch of the New Braunfels Public Library is under construction on the grounds of the Westside Community Center. This project, approved under the 2019 Bond, will take library services provided at this location from a 600-square-foot room inside the community center to an 8,000-square-foot standalone facility with a 25,000-item collection, a teaching garden, computer workspaces, and more. The Westside Branch is currently under construction with an anticipated completion date in Fall 2022. Due to construction needs, the Westside Community Center will not have programming in May 2022.
