CHRISTMAS

& NEW YEAR

AT THE HELM

REAR COMMODORE’S MESSAGE As we move towards the end of the year, we look forward to active member participation in a wide range of year-end events and activities. Please check out on the up-coming events like the Yakult and J&C Bakery Factory Visit, Movie Night and RSYC Fishing Competition. Don't forget to join us in our monthly Members' Night, which is held usually on the last Friday of the month where fellow members can mingle and have great time.

Friday, 18th January 2019. Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for Economic and Social Policies, has kindly consented to grace the event as the Guest-of-Honour. There will be excellent food and live entertainment, in addition to the attractive hole-in-one and novelty prizes. We aim to raise better than $609,000 which we achieved at the RSYC Charity Golf & Dinner 2017 through the sale of golf flights, dinner tables and outright donations.

An exciting Jet-ski and Powerboat Cruise to Lagoi Bay, Bintan Island from 3rd Nov to 5th Nov has been specially organised in conjunction with the "Wonderful Sail to Bintan 2018" event, sponsored by the Bintan Government. The 3-day event includes series of activities such as drone race competition, jet-ski demonstration, jet-ski parade and fun rides. We are receiving very encouraging response from boaters and jet-ski members who are looking forward to be part of the flotilla.

We appeal to your support and participation for a good cause. Donations in kind for charity auction during dinner are also welcomed. Once again, Chan Family Foundation has generously offered to donate on a dollar for dollar matching of the raised funds and up to a maximum of $250,000.00. The sole beneficiary for this drive is St. Andrew’s Nursing Home (Taman Jurong) and we hope the sum raised could help the new 290-bedded, 6-storey nursing home with its first two years of operations.

Our gymnasium continues to be a popular facility among members. To provide our fitness enthusiasts with a more conducive environment, we have commenced the enhancement project since 8th October. The Multi-Purpose Room will be closed permanently to make way for the expansion of the gymnasium. Meanwhile we would seek member understanding and patience during the renovation period. In the coming months, members can look forward to new treadmill machines, fresh coat of paint in a brighter shade and new mirrors.

On another note, there is a recent spate of disciplinary cases, relating to members hurling verbal abuses towards staff and fellow members, which have been reported and pending investigation. Disciplinary matters take considerable Management and Committee's time and energy which could put to better use for Club advancement. Members who are unhappy with the behaviour or conduct of any staff, fellow member or member’s guest are reminded to complain directly to the General Manager. Any form of abuse towards staff or fellow members cannot and will not be tolerated by the RSYC Committee. Management has been entrusted to enforce the By-Laws and Rules and members are reminded to respect the staff as they undertake such duties to maintain satisfying

enjoyment of shared facilities among members. Members are expected to uphold the characteristics and traits of being gracious and respectful towards fellow members and staff, which have long been fostered and treasured in RSYC history. In conclusion, we welcome feedback on all areas that need improvement and encourage members to keep your views and suggestions coming as we move the Club forward. Thank you for being part of the RSYC family and I look forward to seeing you, your family members and guests at the Club.

SPECIAL FEATURE: OPERATION JAYWICK 75TH ANNIVERSARY

The Adventure Group (TAG) answered queries from the Media about their reenactment

OPERATION JAYWICK 75TH ANNIVERSARY On Tuesday 25th Sept 2018, RSYC hosted a group of kayakers from The Adventure Group (TAG) who were in Singapore as a pitstop for their fund raising mission to support Australia’s veteran community. Due to international water restrictons, the group had only paddled from Labrador Park to RSYC, as part of an anniversary reenactment of Australian military forces during WW2. Upon arrival, they washed down their kayaks at our layby area, had an interview with the media, filled their tummy with lunch at The Wharf, packed and leave RSYC on the same day. RSYC was glad the reenactment was a success and are happy to be involved in this meaningful mission. Here's a little history of Operation Jaywick. September 2018 was the Operation Jaywick's 75th anniversary of the ‘Z Special Unit’s’ raid on Singapore Harbour. The raid was an audacious attack deep into Japanese held territory that stunned the enemy at a time when they held ascendancy in the Asia Pacific region and in a location that they considered a safe haven. The raid was a success with all participants returning safely to Australia having sunk or severely damaged some 39,000 tonnes of enemy shipping. For more information, please visit https://hqtag.com/opjaywick/

Hugs from fellow kayakers for their accomplishment

PERSONAL MOBILITY DEVICES NOT ALLOWED ON MARINE PONTOONS

Berth B1

In line with the Singapore government in tightening the regulations for riding of Personal Mobility Devices (PMDs) in public area, we would like to inform members that PMDs include but not limited to bicycle, electric scooter, kick scooter and unicycle are not permitted on the marina pontoons for safety reason.

We are excited to launch our very first berth auction this year! Every yacht club has their very own amazing stories to tell, so is RSYC! If you are interested to berth your boat ar RSYC's prime spot namely Berth B1 and B2, come and join us for the auction. The bidding form can be collected at Marina office or front office from 15th November 2018 onwards and the minimum bid for each berth starts from $1280 (excluding GST). Kindly drop the form to Front Office by 15th December 2018 and we will announce the result seven days later.

BERTH AUCTION

PMDs can only be ridden on the driveways on shore at very low speed of 10 km/hr. Riders have to dismount and push/ walk their device when they are on the ramps, pontoons & fingers. Boaters have to strictly store the devices on their boats and not parked on the pontoons or fingers. Your kind cooperation is much appreciated.

REMINDER: BRING YOUR PPCDL CARD WHEN OUT AT SEA Recently, we have encountered cases where Members did not carry their PPCDL card when spot-checked by Police Coast Guard on duty. Please be reminded to bring along your valid PPCDL licensewhen you are out at sea. A photocopy of your license is also acceptable if you are afraid of losing your physical card. Your kind cooperation is much appreciated.

NO WAKE ZONE It has been reported recently of a spike in boats speeding in/out of our marina, potentially causing damage to the pontoon structure, members' boats as well as discomfort to fellow boaters. In a worst case scenario, this could also cause a “Man-Over-Board” situation to unsuspecting boaters or other users of the marina. In order to prevent this, we wish to remind all boaters entering/exiting our marina to adhere to the policy of “No Wake Zone”.
