Want to quickly earn credits toward a national designation? Then plan on attending the Southern Building Show at the Cobb Galleria Centre in June. The Greater Atlanta HBA in partnership with the Southern Building Show is offering four National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) classes at the show, and our EarthCraft House Building class also is back by popular demand! MARKETING AND COMMUNICATION STRATEGIES FOR AGING AND ACCESSIBILITY (CAPS I) – THURSDAY, JUNE 4

Millions of Americans are living longer and more active lives, and with their changing lifestyles, older Americans also want to revitalize their home environments. Learn best practices in communicating and interacting with this exciting and evolving population, and take advantage of one of the fastest growing market segments in remodeling and related industries. Attend this NAHB class and learn how to: • explain the three segments within the aging-in-place market that present business opportunities for building professionals • implement a process for promoting new opportunities for products and services in the aging-in-place market • enhance your sales process with effective techniques for the aging-in-place market This class provides credit toward the Certified Aging-in-Place (CAPS) and the Master Certified New Home Sales Professional (MCSP) designations. It also provides continuing education credit for those with the Certified Graduate Associate (CGA), Certified Graduate Builder (CGB), Certified Graduate Remodeler (CGR), Certified Marketing Professional (CMP), Graduate Master Builder (GMB) and Member, Institute of Residential Marketing (MIRM) designations, as well as six hours of Georgia Real Estate Commission (GREC) continuing education credit. Techniques also will be discussed for competitively differentiating your home products through increased indoor environmental quality, as well as energy and resource efficiency. Class topics include: • controlling moisture and durability for each component of the building envelope • employing resource-efficient materials to achieve comfortable, safe and sustainable buildings • strategizing ways to meet, verify and exceed green building energy efficiency requirements • implementing indoor and outdoor water conservation practices • achieving indoor air quality • explaining a home owner’s and builder’s role in effective operation and maintenance of a green home This class provides credit toward the Certified Green Professional (CGP), CGA and CGB designations. It also provides continuing education credit for the CAPS, CGR, CMP, CPHB, CSP, GMB, MCSP and MIRM designations. DESIGN/BUILD SOLUTIONS FOR AGING AND ACCESSIBILITY (CAPS II) – FRIDAY, JUNE 5

This Certified Aging-in-Place (CAPS) course will help you understand the guidelines and requirements of accessibility, the importance of doing an assessment with input from occupational and physical therapists and other qualified health care professionals, and the significance of good design in making modifications that can transform a house into a safe, attractive and comfortable home for life. Participants will learn to: • describe the home ownership market as it relates to the three segments of the aging-in-place market • consider contractual and legal concerns for building professionals providing design solutions to the aging-in-place client • perform a needs assessment to identify and prioritize the needs, wants and wishes of the aging-in-place client recommend specific design solutions for the aging-in-place client • estimate and schedule the aging-in-place project while regarding special considerations This class provides credit toward the CAPS and MCSP designations and continuing education credit for the CGA, CGB, CGR, CMP, GMB and MIRM designations, as well as six hours of GREC continuing education credit.
