Project description I symbolically burned the project applications for all unrealized art projects that would otherwise have been dimmed in drawers or folders. How important is art and how much art do we need in our society?

I SEE YOU_YOU SEE ME [step 1] Performance in three situations, 2019

Fotocredit: © Daniel Worm , Catarina Marcos, Fernando Matos de Oliveira

Project description The project shows the uncommon concept of culture fluid, exploring themes around the idea of hybrid cultural identity and investigates liminality and in-between spacial concepts. Questions at stake are: Who is seeing what and why? Where is the line between you and me? How ambiguous is the limit between kitsch and reality? Within a performance composed of three immersive situations in which the viewer is guided or rather left alone to assume responsibility as spectator and human being.

Performance description I SEE YOU_YOU SEE ME is composed of three immersive situations, each strongly related to the specific space where it happens. None of the situations take place in a traditional theatre space and all spectators are invited to participate in events in different ways.
1st. Situation: ‘The Abuse’ The first situation is a body installation: the body of a woman lying on the floor with signs that says: “Utilise me” | “Define me” and some objects. 2nd. Situation: ‘The Empowerment’ The second situation will adress the visions of the persona Lakshmi Chellani, an expert in Kathak and the empowerment dancer singing Gloria Gaynor “I am what I am”. The research in this phase consists in looking a ‘Indian’ traditional dancer of Kathak (North Indian classical dance, that I had to learn during my childhood), investigating how the specific movements, facial expressions and gestures of this Indian dance resonate in the body. The question is: How culture is inscribed in the body? The next situation deals with questions of kitsch and mainstream, stereotypes, clichés, reality and fiction. It´s call empowerment, as it states I AM WHAT I AM. 3rd. Situation: ‘The Healing’ Is an appropriation, a healing session, a guided shamanic meditation: Chakra visualization with colours, followed by a meal of shared Indian food. The Song lyrics from Tim Maia are: “Love is really the answer” and the questions are: What happens if you place a spiritual guided session into an artistic? What are the limits of guiding the public or leaving them free in their responsibility as spectators and human beings?

Press Patricia Portela @ coffeepaste.pt: “Navina Neverla evokes her alter ego Lakshmi Chellani, a specialist in Kathak and ritualistic practices of altered states of consciousness, guiding us to her own peculiar world, where irony and sincerity touch in a discourse, that provokes, questions and challenges both political at the same time ritualistic positions, both artistic as well as xenophobic, radical, traditional, liberal and reductionary. Via a sequence of events or moments that occupy different spaces, asking the audience for their complete engagement, including 6

disobedience. Without fear or a net, Navina takes us to an unknown place, a supreme relation between the art and it’s reader."

Sauerbrunn – Hold onto Freedom Immersive Multimedia Installation, 2016

Fotocredit: © Murilo Henriques

“How to build a swing out of memories? How to transcend? How to surrender? How to not accelerate? How to fly while staying grounded? How to grow roots? How to swim the currents? How to find the exact moment for taking off? How to ride the wave without drowning? How to master the art of self-control while enjoying the ride, up and down the wave of life‘s emotions? How to not swing inside the painting on the wall? How to stay focused? How to allow him to take a lead, whilst staying free? How to leave? How to love? How to eat the chocolate cake without falling sick? How to land smoothly? How to fly? How to heal [others]? Freshness, coolness, wind, shade, rain - they come to nurture the earth with new life? Without water, no life possible? Without fire, no rebirth? Without wind, no freshness? Without air, no flight? without earth, no roots?“

Project description Its focus lies on memory and impermanence and it has been presented as a participatory multimedia and installation event engaging with all the senses of the audience. The third, current research project “How to Create a Swing out of Memories“ focuses on the ideas around cultural hybridity, nomadism and alienation. What happens when home cannot any longer defined through a specific place but is rather a concept that is transitory and fluctuant? What are the consequences that come along with a hybrid identity and a transitional concept of home? How can or shall this be reflected in an artistic practice?

Art workers won’t kiss ass Site-specific solo performance intervention, 2016

Fotocredit: © Nuno Trindade

Project description The work references and revisits a performance by the Art Workers Coalition from 1969 [AWC]. The aim of the conceptual/minimalist work of [Art Workers Coalition] was the institutional critique of art institutions; galleries and museums as well as their relationship to the art market. What has changed since 1969 – which economic systems within the art market remain the same?

Art workers won't kiss ass - 2016 Edition aims to investigate the socially constructed borders between inside & outside, between private & public between the artist’s body and the art market.

Gedankenspiegel [Step 2] Choreography / Performance installation, 2012

Fotocredit: © Marco Kasang

Project description This project’s aim is to dissolve the structural unities [Film] Moving Image and [Dance] Moving Body in order to merge them. What does Film [Moving Image] stand for? What does Dance [Moving Body] represent? What is it that a camera incorporates? What does the human body represent? The basic principle of my current work is the assumption that both means of expression subsist on MOVEMENT. While [Film] exists due to the movement of images, [Dance] lives on the movement of the body.

Project description The conceptual aim of this project was to deconstruct the media film and dance in order to merge them into a new context. The categories were: reality versus fiction, subjective camera (go pro) versus objective camera and the question where the line between every day movements and contemporary dance is.
