Kickin’ it for COREY VILONIA HIGH SCHOOL EAST STUDENTS HOST FUNDRAISING EVENT FOR THE FAMILY OF VHS STUDENT, COREY NOWLIN April 5, 2020 is a day that forever changed the lives of the Nowlin Family. Corey Nowlin, a sophomore at Vilonia High School was out on his horse for a ride, as he often did, when he had a terrible accident resulting in a Traumatic Brain Injury. Mustard Seed Marketing owner, Emily Kelley, also from the Vilonia community, was in the PICU at Arkansas Children’s Hospital with her 5 week old son when Corey was admitted. “I believe that God writes our story. I know that he placed this family in my direct path so that we would be encouraging to one another during such a time of uncertainty.” The first 72 hours after being admitted would be only the beginning of this journey. Corey remained at Arkansas Children’s Hospital for months after the Kelley’s son went home, but Emily stayed connected to their story. The event was held in Vilonia at the Centennial Bank Field - Phillip D. Weaver Stadium on Friday, October 2, 2020 during the Vilonia football home game. It featured a Silent Auction with over 15 items donated from area businesses. The auction began when the gates opened at 6:00 pm and closed at the end of the Half. In addition to the Auction, attendees of the game were invited to purchase raffle tickets for their chance at $500 in a Field Goal Challenge. The energy at the game this past Friday night was contagious. The

game was a sell out and members of the community flocked to the Auction table to bid on items and purchase a raffle ticket for thier chance to kick a field goal. At the end of the half, Noah Newman had the lucky ticket drawn to take the field for his chance at $500. Unfortunately, the kick fell short, but Noah still received a gift certificate from Pizza Pro owner, Matthew Bradford. The $500 was then added to the fundraising total. To say the event was a success would be an understatement. Nearly $6,000 was raised in a span of just two hours. Corey’s dad, Chris Nowlin and Corey’s little brother, Caleb were in attendance at the game and were presented the gift at the conclusion of Halftime. The VHS EAST students would like to thank members of the Vilonia Business Community for

Thumbrint Skeleton Q-tips and Fingerpaint

Want a simple Halloween craft that is super fun for your kids? This thumbprint skeleton craft is so simple to make, and your kids won’t get enough of it. While this is a great craft for Halloween, you can also do this with young kids if you are studying the skeletal system of the human body. If you are a parent that considers yourself to be lacking in craft department, you appreciate simple crafts that are easy to set up. This is one of those and it’s fun at the same time. It’s not full on finger painting since it only involves your thumb, so not a huge mess — unless your child decides otherwise. The fun thing about these Thumbprint Skeleton Crafts is that it’s simple and easy for all ages to do. This also means that all the skeletons are going to be a different size, too! Have fun making thumbprints and them comparing the differences among the kids. Even the adults should join in on the fun of this fun craft. SUPPLIES -Black construction paper -Q-tips -Glue

DIRECTIONS 1. Begin by dipping your thumb into white paint. Press it to the black paper to craft the head of the skeleton. Allow the paint to dry thoroughly. Repeat until you have the number of skeleton heads you wish. 2. While the paint dries you can start snipping the q-tips into segments. These will be the bones of your skeletons. Add a dab of glue to the back of each and press them to the thumb prints as shown to create the body of the skeletons. You will need about 5 pieces for each body you wish to make. 3. Once the bodies are assembled, you can craft the faces of your skeletons. Use a marker to add a simple set of eyes and mouth.

You aren’t good enough WIFE

When you look at this picture to the left, does it make you want to throw up? Does it resemble your life? I am that woman - minus one thing. Instead of a perfectly tailored suit and hair just right, I am holding on to the Zebra for dear life, as all that I am trying to juggle is surrounding me. I am constantly comparing myself to that person who is balancing life and has it all together. My thoughts often resort to the phrase at the top.

You aren’t good enough.

How many times have you thought those words as a mom? You aren’t good enough. After a long day at work with demanding clients and bosses, do you lack patience with your child that has more energy in their pinky than you can muster up in your entire being? What about the teenager that just rolled their eyes at you for ump-teenth time? Then there is getting dinner on the table, the never-ending pile of laundry and the lego you just stepped on left behind by your toddler. Y’all I have been there - Who am I kidding, I AM there - EVERY DAY it seems. I feel like I have so many balls in the air that I can never keep them up. I feel like if I do really well at one thing, it will only sacrifice performane in some other area of my life. It wasn’t until a few weeks ago that I uttered the words “I’m just not good enough,” and almost audibly heard, “You’re right Em, you aren’t... but I am.” God has given me the opportunity to share words of encouragement to those going through trials - He is made perfect in our weakness. Why haven’t I adopted this truth in my own life?

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses,

so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong. 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 In this passage, a man who made one of the biggest impacts for Christ reflected on the ask that God take away his thorn in the flesh. It says he had asked repeatedly. But God gave Him a brand new revelation, with a promise. His grace is sufficient. It is in our struggle that His strength and power is made known. I do not have it all together. But I serve the One that does. It is my hope that through my vulnerability I can lead others to this grace and perfect strength. So momma, get it! Remember, you’ve got this because God has YOU!
