nfertility impacts quality of life for many families today. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), about 48.5 million couples worldwide are unable to have a child after trying for five years. There are many medical interventions available to help couples with infertility issues. Some are simple, others complex. Acupuncture is a simple and effective intervention that is also one of the most natural ways to help couples to achieve their goal of becoming parents. Acupuncture is a profound art of healing. It is a well-established and comprehensive system that has been practiced in China for thousands of years. Acupuncture treatment focuses on strategic placement of needles at energy points in the body. The needles stimulate these energy points, helping to regulate physical as well as emotional balance and to promote healing. and noted that the results were promising. They concluded that acupuncture has many fertility-boosting benefits including increasing blood flow to the uterus and uterine wall, reducing anxiety and stress, and normalizing hormones and the endocrine system. An increase in blood flow to the uterus can improve the chances of an ovum being implanted, while the reduction of stress hormones and normalization of other endocrine system functions can help to balance and regulate ovulation and reproduction function, especially for women with polycystic ovarian syndrome. Acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine can also be used to strengthen, support, and balance the overall well-being of women, allowing other fertility procedures to be more effective. went assisted reproduction therapy. Their study indicated the patients that received acupuncture treatment had a 16.2 percent higher rate of successful clinical pregnancies compared to those that did not receive acupuncture. Another published study conducted by the Trianglen Fertility Clinic in Denmark in 2006 also concluded that acupuncture on the day of embryo transfer significantly improved reproductive outcomes. With today’s advances, there are more options than ever to help couples with infertility issues to become parents. Acupuncture remains one of the most natural fertility treatments available with highly promising benefits. It can be used in conjunction with conventional fertility treatments such as in-vitro fertilization or intrauterine insemination to increase the overall pregnancy rate. For couples having difficulty achieving pregnancy, a licensed, qualified acupuncturist with extensive experience in treating infertility can make a world of difference.
