The National Wallace Monument is marking the Year of History, Heritage and Archaeology 2017 with a fantastic programme of events. Re-live the Battle of Stirling Bridge in A Battle Won, discover the interesting history of the Monument’s setting in Abbey Craig Through The Ages and find out why the Victorians built the Monument in A Hero Remembered.

From 1 November 2017 to 28 February 2018 the Visitor Reception Centre & Legends Coffee House are open from 10am. Closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, & New Year’s Day. During January each year the Monument closes for two days to allow essential maintenance to be undertaken.

- DISABLED ACCESS -

The Visitor Reception Centre & Legends Coffee House (at the Car Park) are fully accessible. Disabled access to the Abbey Craig and the Monument is limited. Each level of the Monument is accessed by a spiral staircase, with 246 steps to the top of the tower.

What happens when two soldiers from opposing sides meet after The Battle of Stirling Bridge? Will they fight - or agree to a truce?

Re-live the main events of William Wallace and Andrew de Moray’s victory in 1297 at The Battle of Stirling Bridge.

Is this really the end for Wallace - or will his legacy endure for generations to come? Performances to commemorate the anniversary of William Wallace’s execution on 23rd August 1305.

A WALK WITH WALLACE

Look out for the historically themed Tartan Tales presented by Children’s Classic Concert at the Macrobert Arts Centre on Sunday 28th May www.macrobertartscentre.org

Costumed actors recreate scenes from Wallace’s famous encounter with the army of King Edward I, during a 45-minute guided walk, along one of the Abbey Craig’s nature trails.
