The National Mall Campaign the for honoring american independence and freedom for our nation ' s 250 th anniversary
There is a place we all share and have a share in: THE NATIONAL MALL.
Nearly 700 acres in size, the National Mall stretches from the U.S. Capitol to the Lincoln Memorial.
THIS IS AMERICA’S FRONT YARD.
With its memorials, gardens, and iconic Washington Monument, the National Mall exists for every generation to enjoy and to learn from — a place to reflect and remember, honor and celebrate.
THIS IS AMERICA’S CIVIC STAGE.
Both a life-changing destination and a daily joy, each year the National Mall welcomes more visitors than any other national park in America.

Welcoming 36 million visitors each year, the National Mall has a longer list of urgent repairs and important upgrades than any other national park. Limited funding from the federal government is not enough.
THE NATIONAL MALL NEEDS PRIVATE DONATIONS TO ENSURE IT WELCOMES, EDUCATES AND INSPIRES ALL WHO VISIT.
The Trust is raising $250 million in private philanthropy inspired by America’s historic 250th anniversary to make the National Mall a beacon of American freedom.
NOT SOMEDAY BUT NOW
Now is the time to ensure that America’s Front Yard meets the highest standard to befit its prominence in our nation. Gifts to this campaign will restore overused sites, invigorate dormant ones and create engaging spaces to learn history and celebrate America.
THE 250TH ANNIVERSARY A MONUMENTAL MOMENT
A MOMENT of the signing of the Declaration of Independence is for our country to come together. It is also to come together for our country.
GIFTS TO THIS CAMPAIGN WILL INVIGORATE SITES WITH NEW POTENTIAL and create NEW EXPERIENCES.
Through this campaign, WE WILL CREATE A FIRST OF ITS KIND ROBUST CIVIC LEARNING EXPERIENCE ABOUT THE NATIONAL MALL. WE CAN BEAUTIFY THIS TREASURED NATIONAL PARK and we can make sure that the purpose of the National Mall endures and thrives.
THE NATIONAL MALL IS A SYMBOL OF FREEDOM AND UNITY.
IT CHAMPIONS NO OTHER CAUSE BUT HAS ALWAYS NEEDED ITS OWN CHAMPIONS.
From the Washington Monument in 1884 to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in 1982 to the World War II Memorial in 2004 to the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial in 2011, every monument and memorial on the National Mall built or restored, in part, by private philanthropy.
The Trust for the National Mall makes it possible for all of us to participate in caring for this vital place — for our country and for each other. That is what this campaign is all about.
In a nation as vast as ours, why do these shared acres mean so much? BECAUSE THIS IS WHERE OUR HISTORY LIVES. THIS WHERE WE COME TO HONOR OUR HEROES AND SALUTE OUR VETERANS. THIS IS WHERE WE COME WHEN IT MATTERS MOST.
The 250th anniversary of our country is a monumental moment — our moment to take up a monumental cause. Our moment to come together. BECAUSE THE NATIONAL MALL WILL ALWAYS NEED US, BUT WE NEED IT EVEN MORE.

GIVING OPPORTUNITIES
MEMORIAL TO THE 56 SIGNERS OF THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE AND CONSTITUTION GARDENS
Dedicated as a "gift to the nation" for America’s Bicentennial in 1976, this 36-acre garden and the memorial are in a state of disrepair, make for an unpleasant environment, and are vastly underutilized. Gifts to this project will restore and beautify the gardens, plant new trees, re-engineer and upgrade its central lake, add new walkways, visitor amenities and activities, and create new learning opportunities about our nation’s founders. Constitution Gardens will become a "new gift to the nation" in honor of the Semiquincentennial in 2026.
SYLVAN THEATER
An active performance site for more than 100 years on the grounds of the Washington Monument, the modest covered stage has not been renovated since the 1970s. It is deteriorating and does not meet the standards and needs of an outdoor public theater for modern performances. Gifts to this project will build a new state-of-the-art outdoor theater with two stages, add visitor amenities, introduce a welcome center, and allow Sylvan Theater to become a premier outdoor venue for the performing arts, First Amendment activities and educational programming — a vibrant center stage for our nation.
HISTORIC LAFAYETTE PARK AT THE WHITE HOUSE
Lafayette Park is home to five statues depicting the heroes and honoring the forces that fought in the American Revolution — including France, Belgium and Poland. The park has been heavily utilized and lacking resources for upgrades. The two marquee fountains have been in disrepair for nearly a decade, and the walkways and landscapes are plagued by broken pavers and seating, faulty light fixtures, and lack vibrant plantings and trees. Gifts to this project will fully beautify and restore the park to reach its full potential as the front yard to the People's House, the White House.
INSPIRE
Create New Civic Learning Experiences for All Ages

Together we will create innovative civic learning experiences and expand our award-winning volunteer program to welcome, guide and educate visitors of all ages.
GIVING OPPORTUNITIES
THE NATIONAL MALL GATEWAY
FIRST-OF-ITS-KIND CIVIC EDUCATION PROGRAMMING
The National Mall Gateway will activate America’s greatest living history classroom with opportunities for civic learning, providing educators and the public with new tools for deeper engagement and curated content to elevate the experience of visitors — both on-site and virtually. The National Mall Gateway will bring the National Mall to communities around the country and the world and connect today’s students with the historic purpose of America’s Front Yard. Our new civic learning programming will engage people of all ages, empower a new generation of informed citizens and instill civic pride in all who experience the National Mall.
EXPANDED VOLUNTEER PROGRAM
Every site on the National Mall provides an opportunity to learn something new and connect to America's history and its future. Our Volunteers-in-Parks volunteers work alongside national park rangers to bring the National Mall to life for the millions who visit each year. Ranging in age from eighteen to eighty years old, our volunteers specialize in sharing the stories and the meaning behind the memorials and the iconic Washington Monument with families and visitors from around the world. Gifts to this program will support recruitment, training and mobilization to cover more sites and engage more visitors on the National Mall for America's 250th and beyond.
ENDURE
Guarantee the National Mall’s Historic Purpose
Gifts to this campaign will secure the annual and future work of the Trust to restore and preserve the National Mall, and will support the maintenance of the landscapes, historic buildings and memorials to ensure they endure and inspire for generations.
Without these critical funds, the future of the National Mall and our work and impact with the National Park Service simply cannot be guaranteed.
GIVING OPPORTUNITIES AN ENDOWMENT FOR THE TRUST
This endowment will ensure the long-term stability of the organization and grow its annual support for the National Park Service and the National Mall. Endowment gifts to this campaign will secure the National Mall's legacy and the impact of each donor's generosity will make certain this national treasure inspires for generations to come.
PRESERVATION FUNDS
Building and growing preservation funds will ensure the annual and future care and maintenance of sites on the National Mall, especially sites restored by the Trust. Current endowments and preservation funds include:
• Cherry Tree Endowment
• U.S. Park Police Horse Stables and Education Center Fund
• Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial Fund
• German-American Friendship Garden Fund
• Lockkeeper's House Preservation Fund
