WHAT DO YOU SAY? The non-profit Armory Arts & Music Center is looking for volunteers to help make our vision of a restored Armory a reality. Imagine by Tom
Imagine a place that overlooks the beauty of Lake Superior and echoes with the sounds of Duluth’s proud past. A place that pays tribute to the legends of the 20th century who once passed through its doors. A place that inspires future generations to also do great things. Imagine an after school arts and music program where teenagers learn to play instruments, jam with their friends, or get lessons on video, sound and stage production. Imagine the impact such a place would have on their lives. Imagine a mixed-use redevelopment anchored by student housing and buzzing with excitement. A place that ties into a reinvigorated London Road and Plaza Shopping Center. A place that brings young people to Duluth’s core. Imagine sitting in the balcony watching your favorite local band (perhaps Trampled by Turtles) as they open for a legend like Neil Young on the same stage a teenage Bob Dylan saw Buddy Holly or your parents saw Johnny Cash. Imagine a winter home for a group like Big Top Chautauqua and a nationally syndicated radio broadcast live from Duluth. Imagine a bride and groom celebrating their wedding reception across the street from the gorgeous Rose Garden where they just had wedding photos taken. Imagine a place that could throw open its doors on a warm sunny morning and host a farm and artist market. Imagine a cafÊ buzzing with conversation and local singer song-writers. A place where tourists and locals discover the Duluth Sound or come in from the cold to admire a lush indoor Winter Rose Garden. Imagine a Nationally Historic Landmark restored to once again serve as a community gathering place for Duluth. And Imagine all this being done, not by a private company, but a grassroots volunteer organization. Imagine having your own visions come to life at this place. Imagine telling your friends, family, and future generations that you helped turn a grand vision into an amazing reality.
