HELSINKI ARCHIPELAGO HOTEL SOFITEL COMPETITION SAIC 2012

The Sofitel Helsinki Archipelago includes an allee en ciel providing luxury shopping, a rare plant conservatory, and views out over the picturesque turrets, domes and castles of Helsinki. Below this level, a boulevard interieur connects the conference and special event spaces to the lobby and the guest rooms. Guest rooms at the top of the hotel face out over the archipelago, while guest rooms below face out toward Helsinki’s Esplanaden. Exterior materials include a rough slate cladding and high-chroma anodized accent fasteners. Interior materials include Finnish wood planking, patterns reminiscent of Marrimeko and Aino Aalto, and geometric lighting fixtures reminiscent of glassware by Kaj Franck.

PUBLIC CHICAGO SUITE ROBERT REDFORD CELEBRITY SUITE SAIC 2012

The Public is an existing hotel in Chicago’s Gold coast neighborhood. The premise of this project was to design a two-story penthouse suite inspired by a celebrity. I designed my suite based on Robert Redford. He is an actor, director and environmental activist. I used his love of nature and background of film to inspire the organization of my layout. The silhouette of a mountain landscape is the geometry that I used to direct my spaces, walls and vertical elements. The materiality of the space plays off of his strong and masculine demeanor. Overall I wanted to create a space that reflected his ease, personality and worked well with the existing hotel.

VISIONARY DRAWING series 1

DRAWING SERIES OF ARCHITECTURAL INSPIRATION SAIC 2012

This drawing series focuses upon the issues of light, context and the textural cross intersection of planes. The 40 drawings are mixed media, charcoal, water color and transfer of digital media. The series purpose is to explore how we can be imaginative and visualize the possibilities of the way we look at art and design.

PROGRAM ORGANIZATION

THE URBS CAFE & GREENHOUSE FOOD FOR THOUGHT INTERNATIONAL IDEA COMPETITION MIAMI UNIVERSITY 2009

Food for thought is a design competition based in the Netherlands. The goal was to redefine food; in packaging, serving and consumption. This was a group project my junior year at Miami University after researching the public garden, such as “the Garden’s of Babylon, in which a community is able to sustain themselves on personal farming. The “urbs cafe” includes a take out cafe, formal dining, green house, and roof garden. A centralized conveyor system transports food throughout the core of the structure. Customers are able to view the picking process of produce and the final plating of their meal. The “urbs cafe” provides an economic aid to the community by employing local businesses such as bakeries for a constant supply of fresh foods.

CHICAGO THIRD SPACE

REVITALIZING CHICAGO’S ALLEY WAY SYSTEM SAIC 2012

The Chicago alleyway system is a unique public space that is underutilized within the city’s infrastructure. My first semester at SAIC I embarked in a collaborative group that addressed this system and the ways in which a kit of parts could reclaim the alley. The goal of the project was to create a third space for the community. This third space is between private and public, interior and exterior and can give the community a pride of ownership over their “back yard” alleyway space. The three systems that were addressed were lighting, sound and surface. By initiating these three components with a module kit of parts, the community and the city could work together to create a “backyard” third space in Chicago.
